At the Third defense zone, Gaara and Kitsuchi sealed Hidan underground, while Kakuzu escaped after using his mask monsters to cover his retreat.

• Might Guy unleashed Night Guy, destroying Aoki Tsuki’s Thousand-Armed Kannon and apparently killing him, but the Shikigami Secret Technique revived Aoki Tsuki as Might Guy collapsed near death.
• Aoki Tsuki struck Kakashi and Yamato with Natural Energy shockwaves, then watched in surprise as Obito appeared and gouged out Kakashi’s left eye.
• Aoki Tsuki realized the Allied Forces Fourth Division had been nearly wiped out and flew toward Konoha to learn what had happened there.

Naruto fought Pain’s Six Paths in the devastated Konoha, but Deva Path Pain trapped him inside a massive sphere with Chibaku Tensei. Jiraiya and Tsunade could only watch as Naruto was captured, while Uchiha Itachi worried and Orochimaru arrived at a damaged building.

• Naruto returned to Konoha and confronted Pain, who explained the Akatsuki’s goal and challenged the village’s idea of peace.
• Naruto attacked the Six Paths with Shadow Clones and Rasengan while Jiraiya told him about Pain’s abilities.

• Obito found Itachi’s hiding place, told him Pain had destroyed Konoha, and left after reminding him of their agreement and a promised surprise.
• Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Konoha’s fighters attacked the Demonic Statue, but its lightning and sealing chains defeated their efforts; Jiraiya also found he could not sense Natural Energy.

• Obito used Kamui to attack Konan and pursued Nagato after Nagato escaped, while Konan stayed behind and hoped Nagato would succeed.
• Obito found Nagato atop the Ten-Tails at Hokage Rock, but Zabuza, Haku, and Kikuno Momo ambushed him before he could stop Nagato.

• Aoki Tsuki regained consciousness as Konan and Kikuno Momo confirmed the battle was over and watched the sun rise.
