Background

Liu Mang transmigrated into Hong Huang and awakened as one of the humans created by Nu Wa. His appearance initially failed to produce either a Heavenly Dao decree or descending Merit, making him an anomaly from the beginning 1. During Nu Wa's eventual proof of Dao, Grand Dao Divine Marks entered his body; the marks and the Law of Creation repeatedly destroyed and restored him, giving him an extraordinary foundation without his awareness 26.

Though he initially viewed himself as an outsider ready to flee Hong Huang if necessary, Liu Mang developed a sense of belonging with the Human Race and chose to remain with them 44 45. He later selected Tongtian as his master in order to learn the Shangqing path and avoid becoming a pawn in the competing plans of Yuanshi, Jieyin, and Zhunti 46.

Liu Mang helped establish human marriage by suggesting procreation as the solution to the Human Race's declining population. Nu Wa established marriage with the Red Embroidered Ball, while the Heavenly Dao rewarded Liu Mang with the Marriage Treasure Tree 54. He subsequently shared responsibility for the Human Race's survival and governance with Taishang and Xuan Du 58 158.

Appearance

Liu Mang is described as a rare handsome young man, with sword-like eyebrows, starry eyes, a chiseled nose, and a dashing, heroic bearing 25. His looks are frequently undermined by his restless, shifty expression and shameless behavior.

  • A body formed from Nine Heavens Breathing Soil and Three Lights Divine Water 132.
  • Possesses an exceptionally resilient physique that can endure high-level Heavenly Tribulations 132 184.
  • Has, at times, concealed his true cultivation and physical strength from others 134 218.
  • Once arrived in the East Sea with his hair blown into a tree-canopy-like shape 98.

Personality

Liu Mang is cautious, opportunistic, and deeply suspicious of manipulation. He habitually assumes stronger figures are plotting against him, responds with flattery when necessary, and prefers to preserve his own safety through preparation, connections, treasures, and contingency plans 45 237 241. He can be brazenly shameless, whether trying to claim the stone platform on which he was born or treating Merit as something to flee from rather than covet 51 50.

Beneath his laziness and self-serving behavior, he is fiercely protective of the Human Race. Their suffering angers him, and he repeatedly commits himself to preventing their slaughter, exploitation, or dependence on outside powers 144 191 288. He believes that the Human Race must ultimately become self-reliant, even if that means allowing them to endure hardship rather than sheltering them forever 158 384.

Abilities & Skills

Myriad Tribulation Undying Body

Liu Mang's body is strengthened through the Law of Creation, Grand Dao Divine Marks, lightning tribulations, Witch Tribe body-refinement techniques, Merit, Calamity Qi, and chaotic laws 26 132 327.

  • Regenerates damaged flesh and blood at extreme speed after suffering injury 131 132.
  • Uses Heavenly Tribulations as opportunities to temper his body rather than merely survive them 131 184.
  • Reached a Quasi-Saint-level physical body despite remaining below that realm in cultivation 258.
  • Can absorb wisps of chaotic laws into his reconstructed flesh and blood 329.
  • His right hand can withstand Void Bi Wind, but the rest of his arm remains vulnerable to it 332.
  • His torso had not yet been fully refined with Calamity Qi and laws 334.

  • Distributed Merit to Human Race tribes to improve their luck and affinity with the world 165.
  • Transferred large quantities of Merit to stabilize the Sea Eye for the Dragon Race 108.
  • Used Merit to suppress Calamity Qi when it entered his body 264.
  • Absorbed Calamity Qi from infected Yao Race cultivators, saving their lives 323.
  • Despite its value, he instinctively avoids Merit out of fear that it represents a trap or obligation 50.

External Incarnations and Clones

Liu Mang obtained the External Incarnation method from Zhen Yuanzi after recognizing the principle behind Clear Wind and Bright Moon's creation 136.

  • Manifested clones Yi Xuan, Blood Sha, and San Qing using the External Incarnation method, Blood God Son technique, and Three Pure Ones Art respectively 218.
  • Initially, his clones could not survive independently if his main body perished 218.
  • Revealed Bai Shan, an External Incarnation capable of independent survival and thought-eavesdropping 258.

  • Can summon his dispersed avatars to contribute their power in emergencies 264.

Combat and Cultivation Techniques

  • Uses direct physical force as his preferred means of combat and suppression 240 292.
  • Learned Witch Tribe combat techniques and sparred with Xing Tian for years 171 174.
  • Can fight Grand Unity-level opponents using physical strength alone 174 372.
  • Employs deception, improvised tactics, and deliberately underhanded moves when facing stronger enemies 173 324.
  • Keeps his actual strength hidden whenever possible, preferring opponents to underestimate him 134 218.

  • Prepared 1,080 backup plans for stabilizing the Heavenly Court during Di Jun's disappearance 241.
  • Gave Ling Yun a jade slip containing 180,000 predicted Heavenly Court contingencies and solutions 241.
  • Mobilized the Intercepting Sect, Dragon Race, Heavenly Court, and allied cultivators to hunt the North Sea Giant Demons 288.
  • Sought to unite the Earthly Dao, Yao Realm, and multiple Saints to contest Hong Jun's influence over the Human Dao 403.

Major Arcs

Human Race Foundation

Liu Mang remained with the early Human Race, helped establish marriage, supported their governance, and gradually became recognized as their Second Ancestor 44 54 158. Upon returning to find the Innate Human Race aging and dying under Fierce Beast attacks, he resolved to protect them while urging them toward self-reliance 144 158.

Hundred Thousand Great Mountains

Under the Matchmaker's supervision, Liu Mang trained by fighting Fierce Beasts, reached the Mahayana stage, and endured a Nine Heavens Heavenly Lightning Tribulation normally faced by much stronger cultivators 124 129 132. His survival transformed his body into his greatest advantage and established his path of using calamity and pain for refinement 131 134.

Sea of Blood and Witch Tribe Training

Liu Mang cultivated in the Sea of Blood, increased his physique to mid-Grand Unity, and provided Ancestor Ming He with advice for creating the Asura tribe 171. He then learned Witch Tribe body-refinement techniques and honed himself through years of combat with Xing Tian 172 174.

Intercepting Sect Leadership

After Tongtian formally recognized him as eldest disciple, Liu Mang rose to prominence in the Intercepting Sect and became associated with its Law Enforcement Hall 214 288. Protector of the Human Race

Liu Mang uncovered Yao Race atrocities against captured humans, recorded evidence with Image Stones, and vowed to stop history from repeating itself 190 191. Calamity Qi and Chaos Refinement

When Calamity Qi consumed one of his incarnations and entered his body, Liu Mang turned the danger into a cultivation resource by feeding it the power of his avatars 264. Human Dao and Human Emperors
