Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Academy graduate / Genin 5 Graduated in Year 36 and joined a squad with Dogen and Kafurin.
Chunin 5 Promoted alongside Dogen after two years in the Genin squad.
Special Jōnin 5 Promoted another two years later and assigned to the border as a squad captain.
Long-range Explosion Release 1 Following transmigration, successfully combines earth and fire chakra. Improved chakra control and experience making clay toys allow him to develop explosive clay.
Jonin 14 Confirms that he has recently been promoted, shortly after developing his new Explosion Release.
Effective Fire Style detonation 43 Uses fire to detonate clay against Kakuzu’s Lightning Release. Compensates for reduced explosive power by spending more chakra.
Kage-level assessment 35 Kōdo judges him strong enough to deserve the title of Kage even before mastering Dust Release.
Partial Dustless Bewildering Cover 62 64 Initially conceals one arm. Having Karen restrict his chakra reserves makes control easier and allows further progress.
Six-Tails jinchūriki partnership 73 Reconciles with Saiken, opens her seal, and helps her project her consciousness into a miniature body.
Splitting Technique 96 Creates a duplicate with half his personal chakra and strength. A split-off Saiken can inhabit it without losing attack power, although her available chakra decreases.
C4: Karura 108 Recreates Deidara’s nanoscale bomb on a much larger scale using his jinchūriki chakra reserves.
Full-body Dustless Bewildering Cover 126 Uses concealment in battle alongside the Splitting Technique to complicate enemy detection.
Dust Release bombs 127 Successfully combines earth, wind, and fire, but initially cannot project Dust Release in Ōnoki’s conventional form. Instead, infuses it into explosive clay.
Jashin Statue power absorption 144 Extracts stored power equivalent to roughly one and a half Jonin’s chakra. Also discovers the statue’s bloodline-absorption and emissary abilities.
Dragon Vein refinement 165 174 Refines the Dragon Vein during secluded training. Its complete chakra supply exceeds the Eight-Tails’ but falls slightly short of the complete Nine-Tails’.
Wood Release acquisition 187 Extracts Wood Release and gains greatly improved chakra regeneration.
Sage Mode 191 Enters a weak Sage Mode on his first attempt by filtering senjutsu impurities through Wood Release; masters it after three days.
Advanced Dust Release missiles 214 Compresses the equivalent of one hundred Detachment of the Primitive World Techniques into a missile whose destructive area he can restrict to a single target.
Ten-Tails jinchūriki 218 Seals and absorbs the Ten-Tails after Obito has already suppressed it, then manifests Truth-Seeking Orbs.
Saiken absorbs the Ten-Tails 219 After returning to his original world, allows Saiken to devour the Ten-Tails over one month, greatly increasing his power.
Beyond Six Paths level 220 With Saiken’s help, breaks through the Six Paths barrier during five years of development. The breakthrough depends on his soul.
Three-dimensional ascension 222 Uses the destruction of his body and a soul-based trap to enter the three-dimensional world, where he erases the God of Ōtsutsuki from the manga.

Background / History

Early Life and Transmigration

The original Didaze was an Iwagakure orphan whose parents died on a mission. He served alongside Dogen and Kafurin before becoming a border captain. The transmigrator occupying his body had made clay toys professionally in his previous life 1 5.

He awakens at Iwagakure’s border during Yotsuki A’s invasion. Recognizing that he cannot defeat A in close combat, he develops clay bombs to inflict enough widespread losses to force Kumogakure’s withdrawal. His contribution saves the defenses and prompts Raito to offer him command despite objections to his youth 1 3 4.

Recognition by Ōnoki

Ōnoki sees Didaze as a potential successor and offers access to the Added-Weight Rock Technique, Light-Weight Rock Technique, and Dust Release in exchange for battlefield achievements. He also assigns Kōdo to protect him, explicitly placing Didaze’s survival above winning the war 5 6.

Against Konoha, Didaze develops a reputation for devastating aerial attacks. His early raid kills three hundred shinobi and disperses Danzō’s Baku. Later, C3 No. 18 forces Orochimaru to sacrifice Manda to escape 8 18.

Didaze also begins teaching the Explosion Release Corps his long-range methods. Rather than treating its members as subordinates beneath him, he insists that they are fellow Iwagakure brothers 13 14.

Nanako and Team One

Didaze rescues Nanako Uzumaki from exploitation in Kusagakure, lets her decide her abusers’ fate, and destroys the village after she chooses their deaths. He brings her to Iwagakure and arranges for her to attend the Academy 28 29.

He later takes Nanako, Reigyō, and Watanabe Kawa as students. Their entrance test requires them to make him move within half an hour; Kawa secures their success by tunneling behind him and touching his shadow. Didaze accepts all three and celebrates Team One’s formation with a feast 82.

When Nanako’s newly awakened Wood Release leaves her unconscious, Didaze uses Dust Release chakra to reduce its overwhelming quantity until she can wake. He preserves its quality, allowing her to rebuild her reserves through training 130 131.

The Jashin Statue and Future World

Seeking a way to remove Jashin’s power from the Jashin Statue, Didaze searches for the Shinigami Mask. Nadeshiko Harukawa guides him to the ruined Land of Whirlpools, where he frees Uzumaki Hiko and eventually obtains the mask 137 140 142.

After two years of training and studying the statue, he travels to Rōran to obtain the Dragon Vein. There he encounters Naruto Uzumaki and Mukade before reaching an alternate future world 150 152.

In that world, Didaze’s counterpart is already dead, and his resemblance to Deidara causes Iwagakure to mistake him for the missing-nin. He gains the future Ōnoki’s cooperation, recruits Deidara as an informant within the Akatsuki, and encourages him to return to Iwagakure 153 154 156 159.

Deidara eventually learns who Didaze is but continues calling him “Big Bro” rather than “Dad.” Didaze also accompanies the future Iwagakure delegation to the Five Kage Summit and warns the Kage to prepare for the Fourth Shinobi World War 165 168.

Marriage and the Fourth Tsuchikage

After returning to his own world, Didaze reciprocates Nanako’s confession once she is eighteen. He proposes with a clay figurine, and their wedding brings together his students, comrades, and subordinates, with Ōnoki and Uzumaki Hiko serving as elders 170 171 172 173.

Following Iwagakure’s conquest of Konoha in Year 49, Didaze succeeds Ōnoki as the Fourth Tsuchikage. He temporarily retains Konoha’s name to ease its lower-ranking shinobi into accepting defeat, while publicly announcing plans to annex the remaining great villages 205.

His administration streamlines official procedures. In conquered Konoha, Academy enrollment becomes available to anyone with chakra, the Uchiha relocate to the village center, and Orochimaru heads Iwagakure’s research team. In Year 50, Nanako gives birth to their son, whom Didaze names Deidara 206.

Final Conflict

In the future world, Didaze destroys the remaining Pain bodies, kills Black Zetsu, and becomes the Ten-Tails jinchūriki. He eliminates Hidan before returning home, leaving that world’s future to Naruto 214 218 219.

The final campaign takes Didaze and his allies to the Ōtsutsuki palace. After he defeats Tenshiki, the God of Ōtsutsuki emerges, kills Kaguya and Hagoromo, and seizes him. Didaze escapes through a soul-based deception, enters the three-dimensional world, and erases the God from the manga before returning to Nanako and the surviving allies 222.

Appearance

  • Hair: Long, flowing blond hair 5 28.
  • Resemblance to Deidara: Similar enough that Sakura notices the resemblance and future Iwagakure repeatedly mistakes him for Deidara 150 152 153.
  • Forehead protector: Usually keeps it in a scroll rather than wearing it, considering it an unnecessarily conspicuous identifier 138.
  • Sage Mode: Initially develops extremely faint markings around his eyes 191.

Personality

Didaze is pragmatic about survival and combat. He acknowledges when an opponent outmatches him at close range, withdraws after successful raids rather than pressing a poor position, and refuses to let his previous-life affection for characters such as Jiraiya outweigh his own life 1 8 109.

His loyalty to Iwagakure contrasts sharply with his ruthlessness toward its enemies. He treats fellow Explosion Release users as brothers and returns to the border to honor his promise to employ Deido, but believes force is necessary to change the shinobi world. His later political goal is not merely victory over Konoha, but the destruction of its willingness to resist Iwagakure 13 35 55 136.

His treatment of Nanako combines genuine care with deliberate manipulation. During her rescue, he consciously exploits her vulnerability to push her toward killing her abusers. Later, however, he regards their teacher–student relationship as mutually fortunate rather than a debt she owes him, an attitude that earns Uzumaki Hiko’s respect 28 145.

He is also an inventive, persistent researcher. He continues experimenting with unstable fire-triggered bombs, develops compressed wind techniques, and requests a chakra-restricting seal when excessive reserves hinder his control training 18 42 63 64 101.

Abilities & Skills

Explosive Clay and Long-Range Explosion Release

Didaze combines precise chakra control with his previous-life sculpting experience to create mobile explosives and flying constructs 1 14.

  • Clay creatures: Spiders, centipedes, hummingbirds, giant birds, and dragons provide varied delivery methods 3 7 9 18.
  • C1: Clay Spider: Small mobile bombs; later detonated with fire when Lightning Release makes his usual method unsuitable 43.
  • C2: Dragon: Functions as an aerial mount and explosive weapon. Ten C2 explosions widen the valley blocking Iwagakure’s advance 18 44.
  • C3 No. 18: A large explosive doll used against Orochimaru and the Seven Ninja Swordsmen; the Kirigakure detonation destroys nearly one-fifth of the village 18 57.
  • C4: Karura: A nanoscale-bomb technique recreated from Deidara’s work. His Six-Tails reserves support a vastly larger version 108.
  • C5: His demonstration impresses Deidara enough to help secure his cooperation against the Akatsuki 156 159.
  • Brood Nest: A giant spider that produces smaller explosive spiders 28.
  • Explosive bow: Allows repeated aerial attacks against individual opponents 19.

Limits:

  • Early bombs are vulnerable to Lightning Release interference. Fire-triggered detonation is initially unstable and later requires additional chakra to match the usual explosive yield 18 43.
  • Large explosions threaten allies and can catch Didaze himself. He initially considers his style much better suited to warfare than single combat 8 45 127.
  • He will not use C4 near his own forces unless no alternative remains 127.

Dust Release

Didaze develops Dust Release by balancing earth-, wind-, and fire-nature chakra, then incorporating the resulting power into clay bombs 32 81 127.

  • Dust Release bombs and bullets: Deliver destructive chakra through small projectiles, including a bullet that removes a sealed shelter’s entrance 127 140.
  • Chakra suppression: Counterbalances Nanako’s excessive Wood Release to help restore her consciousness 130.
  • Precision missiles: Eventually combines enormous destructive output with control fine enough to confine a missile’s effect to one person 214.
  • Initial limitation: Cannot initially reproduce Ōnoki’s conventional projected Dust Release despite successfully combining its chakra natures 127.

Elemental Ninjutsu and Chakra Control

  • Condensed Wind Blade: Packs a large amount of wind chakra into a normal-sized blade; impact releases an enormous storm. Developed from his experience compressing power into clay bombs 42.
  • Vacuum Great Sphere: Recreates a compressed wind sphere capable of dispersing Watanabe Kawa’s Great Fire Annihilation 101.
  • Combination ninjutsu: Coats Wind Blades with fire to combine cutting and burning effects 43.
  • Lightning-attracting sphere: Redirects incoming Lightning Release, but dissipates once its stored chakra is exhausted through cancellation 57.
  • Earth Release: Hardening Jutsu: Raises durability enough to break Nanako’s early sealing chains, at the cost of speed and continuous chakra consumption 63.
  • Added-Weight Rock techniques: Enhances close-range strikes, including a Sage Art punch that launches Obito over a thousand meters 214 218.

Concealment, Cloning, and Mobility

  • Dustless Bewildering Cover: Conceals his body and chakra presence. Strong sensing can still locate him approximately; Jiraiya’s Sage Mode is a particularly effective counter 62 126.
  • Splitting Technique: Produces a duplicate at half his personal strength. Combining it with Saiken’s division ability preserves the tailed beast’s offensive power in the duplicate 96.
  • Shadow Clones: Used for reconnaissance, communication, and independent tasks 55 101 150.
  • Flying Thunder God: Enables rapid attack-and-retreat maneuvers, including disabling the Preta Path before detonating a Dust Release missile 214.
  • Transformation and genjutsu: Infiltrates Kirigakure disguised as a local shinobi and places its gate guards under an illusion 55.

Saiken, Wood Release, and Sage Mode

  • Six-Tails partnership: Gains Saiken’s trust and allows her consciousness to travel outside his seal in a miniature body 73.
  • Chakra reserves: Combines the Dragon Vein with tailed-beast power; the Dragon Vein alone contains more chakra than the Eight-Tails 174.
  • Wood Release: Greatly improves chakra regeneration and provides the means to filter impurities from senjutsu chakra 187 191.
  • Sage Mode: Learned through Saiken’s unique senjutsu and mastered in Ryūchi Cave 187 191.
  • Physical enhancement: Sage Mode and Wood Release improve his weakest area enough that he believes he can defeat Tsunade using physical abilities alone 192.

Jashin Statue Abilities

  • Kill-to-power conversion: Converts approximately fifty victims’ worth of strength into one equivalent unit of power 144.
  • Bloodline absorption: Can make an absorbed kekkei genkai an innate ability, but kills its source. Didaze initially finds that this function can only be used once 144.
  • Jashin’s emissary: Envelops him in black vapor and an evil aura, and can manifest Jashin’s phantom 144.
  • Control of believers: Further study reveals that the emissary transformation lets him command Jashin’s followers 150.
  • Destructive black mist: Damages or destroys flesh; sufficient chakra can make it lethal even to Kage-level opponents 174.

Truth-Seeking Orbs and Higher-Dimensional Power

  • Truth-Seeking Orbs: Manifest after he absorbs the Ten-Tails 218.
  • Expansive Truth-Seeking Orb: Used against Isshiki and Tenshiki; in the final battle, he transforms the planet into an orb to eliminate Ōtsutsuki foot soldiers 219 222.
  • Soul-based attacks: Uses a golden orb containing part of his soul to destroy Tenshiki 222.
  • Higher-dimensional escape: Exploits contact with half his soul and the destruction of his body to leave the manga’s world and erase the God of Ōtsutsuki 222.
