Background / History

Houtu first encountered Hongxuan after tracking him through territory governed by her tribe on Buzhou Mountain. Suspicious of his movements, she followed him into a hidden Secret Realm Space, where the two formally met. 46

Her reckless activation of the secret realm's formation trapped both of them in a Reincarnation Array. They endured ten thousand lifetimes together, repeatedly becoming strangers, companions, lovers, or rivals before dying and reincarnating again. The experience left Houtu with intense and conflicted feelings toward Hongxuan after they escaped. 47 48

Within the secret realm, the Six Paths Reincarnation Disk recognized Houtu as its destined owner. She initially refused it because, as a Witch Race member without a primordial spirit at the time, she believed magical treasures were useless to her; Hongxuan ultimately took custody of the disk. 48 Houtu later gave Hongxuan the Earth Spirit Pearl without demanding anything in return, then protected him throughout his refinement and cultivation. 49 50

Houtu guided Hongxuan through Buzhou Mountain and helped uncover a Pangu-prepared secret realm intended for the Witch Race. After accepting the Six Paths Reincarnation Disk from Hongxuan, Houtu began recognizing its connection to her future Dao. Witnessing the suffering of unreturned souls across the Great Desolation deepened her concern for the Human Race and the dead. 67 88

Following ten thousand years of enlightenment at the Blood Sea, Houtu swore an oath to create the Netherworld Underworld. She transformed her body into the cycle of reincarnation, establishing the Six Paths of Reincarnation and bringing forth the Earthly Dao. 89 Her primordial spirit and Pangu Blood Essence then formed a new body, allowing her to return as Lady Pingxin of the Earthly Dao. 90

As Lady Pingxin, Houtu remained responsible for the Netherworld and its order.
