Organization and Principles

The Jie Sect is a vast sect with direct, outer, registered, and descendant disciples. Direct disciples receive Lord Tongtian's greatest priority in Dao instruction, treasures, and opportunities; this status is explicitly above that of outer and registered disciples. 76 122

History

Early documented period

After Lord Tongtian rescued the Three Xiao Sisters and Hongxuan from the Death Grand Array, they returned to the Jie Sect with several Top-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasures. Yunxiao sought to take Hongxuan as a disciple, but Tongtian refused on the grounds that their master-disciple bond was too shallow and could harm their Dao Hearts. Tongtian instead accepted Hongxuan into the sect personally. 13 14

Hongxuan and Yunxiao were later elevated to direct disciples during Tongtian's 9,000-year sermon, receiving front-row seats beside established direct disciples. The promotion drew widespread envy because of the direct disciples' superior treatment. 76

Fortune crisis and internal reform

The recovery of the Chaos Bell gave Tongtian a clearer view of the Jie Sect's deteriorating fortune. He discovered that some disciples exploited the sect's name while committing harmful acts, threatening the fortune of members who genuinely supported the sect. 123

Before the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation, Hongxuan warned Tongtian that certain Jie Sect disciples were secretly colluding with the Chan Sect and Western Sect. He declined to manage the internal problem himself and recommended Duobao as the appropriate figure to handle sect affairs. 222

Investiture of the Gods Tribulation

The Jie Sect entered the tribulation on Shang's side. Early in the conflict, four Jie Sect immortals rescued Shiji from Grand Yi of the Chan Sect and used a sect formation and self-detonating spirit treasures to kill him, becoming the first side to send a major direct Chan Sect disciple to the Investiture of the Gods. 227 228

The conflict escalated into open war with the Chan Sect. The Jie Sect suffered mounting casualties among its third-generation, outer, registered, and descendant disciples, including Wen Zhong, Holy Mother Fire Spirit, Yu Yuan, and numerous others. 269

Lord Tongtian ultimately deployed the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation and later the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation. While he could move Jie Sect disciples out of the Immortal Slaying formation's killing zones, the sect still lost nearly half of its disciples in the wider conflict. Hongxuan's interventions were credited with preserving many of the survivors. 298 300

The Western Sect exploited the final battle to forcibly convert thousands of disciples from the Human, Chan, and Jie Sects. Hongxuan prevented the capture of Duobao and Wudang with the Karma Jade Tablet, but many Jie Sect disciples were still taken west. 318

Recovery under Duobao

Following the tribulation, Golden Turtle Island became desolate, and the surviving immortals held deep hostility toward the Chan and Western Sects. Lord Tongtian initially wanted Hongxuan to manage the Jie Sect, but Hongxuan refused; Duobao consequently took responsibility for its affairs. 322 323

Over thousands of years, Duobao rebuilt the sect through repeated reforms and strict recruitment standards. Unlike Tongtian's former open-door approach, Duobao excluded recruits who would damage the sect's fortune and removed such “rotten apples” from within. 326

The sect regained a vast membership through new recruitment and the lineages passed down by surviving disciples. Although it no longer overwhelmingly surpassed other sects, it remained among the Three Realms' top forces. 326

Return of converted disciples

After the destruction affecting the West, Lord Tongtian went to Western Spirit Mountain and recovered Jie Sect disciples who wished to return. He did not compel those who had accepted Buddhism and no longer wished to rejoin the sect. 392
