Background

Ancient origin and decline

Golden Fortune Daoist was originally one of the Three Thousand Chaos Gods and Demons. He died in an ancient calamity, then reincarnated into the Primordial Wilderness with Pangu's help. However, corruption remained within him after reincarnation, steadily weakening his cultivation and eventually leaving him unable to progress 370 371.

His recovery was tied to the Karma God and Demon's inheritance arrangements. The Karma God and Demon had left a hidden backup plan for him, while Hongxuan's acquisition of the Karma Wheel accelerated Golden Fortune's restoration and created a major karmic bond between them 371.

First meeting with Hongxuan

While fleeing the Five Absolutes Daoists, Golden Fortune carried the Metal Spirit Pearl and sought help from Hongxuan. Though he had been reduced to the Golden Immortal realm, he remained composed before stronger cultivators and chose to surrender the pearl in exchange for rescue, relying on a personal art for judging character 42 43.

After Hongxuan defeated the Five Absolutes Daoists, Golden Fortune offered him a map and proposed future cooperation once Hongxuan reached the Grand Luo Golden Immortal realm. His prior knowledge of Hongxuan's identity and confidence that they would meet again immediately made Hongxuan suspect that the pursuit may have been staged 44 45.

The Land of Opportunity

Golden Fortune later summoned Hongxuan to their former meeting place and arrived accompanied by the Five Absolutes Daoists, who had become reverent followers. To establish a basis for cooperation, he produced the final surviving page of the Book of Contracts; the two signed a Great Dao-enforced agreement under which Golden Fortune would not betray Hongxuan if Hongxuan did not betray him first 112 113.

He guided Hongxuan to a concealed Land of Opportunity on Ziwei Star, where the first trial required comprehension of thirty-six Karma Stone Tablets. Golden Fortune had failed this trial in the past, and the resulting formation had bound his cultivation with a karmic restriction 114 115 119.

After Hongxuan obtained the Karma Jade Tablet and the Karma Wheel, he removed Golden Fortune's restriction. Golden Fortune regained the ability to sense and cultivate the Great Dao, recovering to the Grand Golden Immortal realm amid tears and laughter 117 119.

Commerce and the Eternal Market

Although the contract required Golden Fortune to follow Hongxuan, Hongxuan rejected a master-servant relationship and accepted him as an equal fellow Daoist instead 134. Golden Fortune revealed that he cultivated the Commerce Dao—later identified as the Grand Trade Dao—and that the value of his transactions directly advanced his cultivation 135 371.

Hongxuan entrusted him with establishing a merchant association at Mount Heng. Golden Fortune transformed Mount Heng into an imposing cultivation site and created a starry-sky formation that converted Chaos Qi into spiritual qi, nourishing the Primordial Wilderness while earning destiny and merit 135 147.

He became the central administrator of the Eternal Commerce Guild and Eternal Market, using his commercial insight to expand its trade, token system, auctions, and influence across the Primordial Wilderness 161 171. When two Quasi-Sages attacked the Ruins Market, he contained the conflict with a grand formation and effortlessly killed both invaders 178.

Revelation of his identity

Hongxuan repeatedly failed to uncover Golden Fortune's true cultivation through the Grand Destiny Art and Grand Karma Art. When confronted directly, Golden Fortune admitted that he was a reincarnated Chaos God and Demon, though he continued to withhold parts of his history and former standing 170 171 370.

He later confirmed his connection to the Karma God and Demon and identified his own path as the Grand Trade Dao. His knowledge of Chaos-era events, supreme treasures, Pangu, and the hierarchy beyond the Heavenly Dao Realm made him one of Hongxuan's most valuable sources of information 371 374.

Appearance

Golden Fortune Daoist is described as resembling an ancient wealthy landowner: plump, greasy-looking, and dressed like a prosperous merchant. His outwardly commercial appearance initially makes Hongxuan associate him with a sly and untrustworthy trader 135.

The curse stripped away much of his former pride and made him desperate for recovery, but it also left him with exceptional endurance and self-control 115 175. After Hongxuan frees him, he sincerely insists on honoring their contract even when Hongxuan offers to disregard it 120 134.

He is notably free of greed toward Chaos Supreme Treasures. He recognizes the Time Treasure Mirror and Gate of Space, yet shows shock and admiration rather than any desire to seize them—a trait that deepens Hongxuan's belief that his goals lie beyond ordinary treasures 171 218.
