His pride is nevertheless rooted in a genuine pursuit of strength rather than an unwillingness to admit fault. After losing to Kong Xuan, he resolves to improve; after drawing with Xu Wei, he openly apologizes for underestimating him. He actively seeks another fight with Kong Xuan to confront the fear that has begun disrupting his cultivation 20 24 26.

His determination can become dangerous stubbornness. Class Monitor Contest

Xu Tianyi volunteers for class monitor and challenges the other five candidates—Kong Xuan, Bi Jin, Wang Xiao, Han Lingxi, and Ye Lingtong—to fight him simultaneously. His opening attack nearly eliminates Ye Lingtong, but Bi Jin pulls her clear. Kong Xuan then interrupts his next attack and defeats him through spearmanship without using a Soul Skill 17 18 19 20.

Although shaken by the Atlas Spear stopping at his throat, Xu Tianyi accepts the defeat and declares that he will win next time 20.

Rematches and Team Formation

Unable to shake the memory of his defeat, Xu Tianyi asks to fight Kong Xuan again. His dismissal of Xu Wei instead leads to a duel between the two; Kong Xuan stops it as a draw because neither can overcome the other's principal advantage. Xu Tianyi's sincere apology afterward helps turn their antagonism into friendship 24 25 26.

He subsequently joins Kong Ling and Xu Wei in a three-on-one challenge against Kong Xuan. Despite being intimidated by Clear and Serene Spear Intent, he insists on continuing and rallies the others. Kong Xuan eliminates him first, again placing the Atlas Spear at his throat 27 28 29.

For the coming competition, Kong Xuan arranges a team of Kong Ling, Xu Wei, and Xu Tianyi, with himself as substitute. Xu Tianyi fills the power-attack role, while Kong Xuan repeatedly spars against the trio to strengthen them 31 32.

Xu Tianyang's Assault

Near the semester's end, Xu Tianyi misses an agreed training session because he is fighting Xu Tianyang in Soul Fighting Arena No. 18. His four-ring brother overwhelms him with Soul Tools and publicly humiliates him, but Xu Tianyi refuses to surrender even after suffering burns and a gunshot wound to his calf 32 33.

Preparation for the National Competition
