Background / History

Childhood in Rock Mountain Village

Kong Ling and her older twin brother, Kong Xuan, are orphans who have never met their parents. Village chief Zhou Yan found them in the mountains and brought them to Rock Mountain Village. A Kong Clan jade plaque found with them provided their surname. They lived in a sparsely furnished hut and regularly ate at Zhou Yan’s home 1 6.

Their fortunes changed when Kong Xuan arranged for both of them to awaken their Martial Souls in Shiquan City. After discovering that both twins possessed innate full Soul Power, Shiquan Junior Soul Engineer Academy admitted them with all expenses waived and assigned them its best dormitory. Fang Sheng began teaching them basic cultivation and theory 1 2 3.

Recognition by Kong Deming

Fang Sheng’s report drew the attention of Kong Deming, the Silver Moon Douluo. Kong Ling’s Sun Martial Soul and the siblings’ jade plaque confirmed their membership in the Kong Clan. Although Kong Deming did not know their parents, he invited them to call him Grandpa and brought them to live at his home in Mingdu 6 7.

With Kong Xuan’s permission, Kong Ling revealed her Silver Moon Martial Soul to Kong Deming. Her Sun-and-Silver-Moon combination exactly matched his own twin Martial Souls. This delighted him but also raised concerns: the Sun Moon Empire lacked sufficient knowledge of twin-Martial-Soul cultivation, and his own body could not withstand additional rings on his secondary Sun Martial Soul 9.

Education in Mingdu

Kong Deming supervised the siblings’ nutrition, physical conditioning, and cultivation before arranging their enrollment in the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy’s new Soul Master class. By the time Kong Ling entered its dormitory, she was confident enough to leave her brother and head upstairs independently—a marked contrast to her earlier habit of hiding behind him 9 12 16.

• Kong Ling closely resembles Kong Xuan; their faces are described as almost identical. He is initially slightly taller and remains about half a head taller after their time in Mingdu 1 11.
• She has a slender build, large, clear eyes, and ink-black hair worn in a ponytail during the academy’s physical assessment 7 23.
• On her second Soul Ring expedition, she wears a close-fitting black outfit suited to movement and ties her hair with a silver ribbon 42.

Personality

Initially timid and deeply dependent on Kong Xuan, Kong Ling seeks reassurance from him when facing unfamiliar adults. She follows his instructions closely, including keeping both her second Martial Soul and his unusual first Soul Ring secret 2 3 5 6.

Her dependence does not prevent her from enduring hardship. During whale rubber tempering, she grits her teeth and refuses to cry out despite her brother’s permission to do so. Cultivation and life in Mingdu gradually make her more outspoken, confident, and willing to challenge others 9 11 22.

Kong Ling is affectionate toward her brother and openly proud of his accomplishments. She also becomes protective: she questions Xu Tianyi’s motives before allowing him to join their group and presses Xu Wei for details when a beautiful senior seeks Kong Xuan out. Her competitive streak extends to wanting her teammates to acknowledge her own progress 24 38 41 47 48.
