Other Notable Members

  • Azure Dragon Grand Elder — Manages Blood War Valley, where the clan’s combatants assemble. She is Furhan’s mother and participates in the seven-Asura challenge delegation 153 161 166.
  • Elder Bru / Blu — Third-ranking expert of the Azure Dragon Clan and a third-generation descendant personally strengthened with Azure Dragon’s essence blood 136 138.
  • Bernistan Redding — Six-Star Fiend and captain of the ninety-third guard squad. He discovers Andrew’s Azure Dragon bloodline and repeatedly urges him to aid the clan 102 138.
  • Furhan — The Grand Elder’s son; leads a squad rescued by Andrew during the war 157 161.
  • Andrew Lance — An acquired-bloodline member whose unusual status places him outside the clan’s ordinary command arrangements. His intervention ultimately secures victory 138 153 180.

Territory and Facilities

  • Skyrite Mountains — The clan’s refuge in Indigo Prefecture. Beirut prohibits the Eight Great Clans from entering, forcing them to blockade and attack from outside 136.
  • Dragon Path — An enormous structure modeled after Azure Dragon, winding through the mountains for tens of thousands of kilometers. Residences and castles are built around it 149.
  • Blood War Valley — The central assembly area for combatants, administered by the Azure Dragon Grand Elder 153.
  • Dragon Transformation Pool — The Azure Dragon lineage’s bloodline-baptism facility. When Andrew requests access for his juniors, its next opening is thirty years away 150.

History

Former Supremacy and Retreat

While the Four Divine Beasts lived, their protection made the clan one of the greatest powers across countless planes. Its members acted without restraint and accumulated enemies who dared not retaliate against four Sovereigns. After the ancestors fell, those enemies attacked, with the Eight Great Clans becoming the most persistent pursuers 135.

The clan retreated to the Infernal Realm and gathered in Indigo Prefecture. Its patriarch ordered members living elsewhere to return, but the Eight Great Clans attacked returning groups as well as established clan forces. Bernistan reached Emperor Wing City after one such escort mission was ambushed 102.

Beirut’s protection prevented an assault inside the Skyrite Mountains, but it did not end the war. The Eight Great Clans maintained pressure outside the protected territory, exploiting their greater reserves in a prolonged war of attrition 135 136.

Recruitment of Andrew

Bernistan identified Andrew’s Azure Dragon aura and addressed him as an elder. Andrew explained that he had acquired his bloodline by fusing with essence blood rather than being born into the clan. He refused to return immediately, believing that his current strength could not decisively change the war 102.

After Andrew became Prefect of Bloodflame Prefecture, the patriarchs investigated whether he belonged to their lineage. Elder Bru and Nemo Leius visited him, accepted his bloodline connection, and requested immediate assistance. Andrew instead promised to intervene after becoming strong enough to end the conflict 135 138 139.

The delegation’s return journey became an ambush by six enemy patriarchs. Bru was pinned down, while Bolin gravely wounded the White Tiger patriarch. White Tiger’s Tiger Roar injured Bolin in return, and reinforcements led by Gaiseresen prevented the ambush from becoming a disaster 140 141 142.

Andrew’s Arrival

Andrew eventually reached the Skyrite Mountains after killing the Edric Clan expert Chabu. At a welcoming banquet, he showed Gaiseresen the damaged Azure Dragon Ring. Recognizing his father’s artifact extinguished Gaiseresen’s hope that Azure Dragon was merely missing 149.

Andrew requested bloodline baptisms for his juniors and declared his intention to join the war. He also learned that Bernistan had died two years earlier when an Ashcroft Clan ambush destroyed his squad 150.

His arrival strengthened the clan but did not immediately resolve its strategic problems. Gaiseresen rejected Andrew’s proposal to concentrate their strongest fighters in a surprise attack against one enemy clan, considering the method dishonorable 153.

Escalation and Suppression

Andrew rescued Furhan’s squad and killed Kelo, Mosli, Joshua, and Bulo. The clan celebrated the unprecedented victory—three enemy elders and an ace eliminated without a loss—and its leaders committed to protecting Andrew and his family 157 158 160 161.

The Eight Great Clans retaliated by deploying their patriarchs more aggressively. Their forces killed exposed clan members, including intelligence personnel. Gaiseresen halted combat missions and restrained elders who demanded retaliation; during the following two hundred years, the clan remained suppressed but lost no elders 164.

First Decisive Battle and Truce

Andrew, the four patriarchs, the Grand Elder, and Pusluo publicly challenged the Eight Great Clans to battle one year later. The confrontation drew spectators from across Indigo Prefecture, including Beirut 166.

The Four Divine Beasts Clan gained the advantage, but could not immediately destroy the enemy coalition. Beirut intervened before the fighting reached a conclusion. After consulting Gaiseresen, Andrew proposed a thousand-year cessation of hostilities, which both sides accepted under Beirut’s personal enforcement 168 169.

Final Victory

The two sides later mobilized for an all-out confrontation. Each assembled two million elite Highgods, while the Eight Great Clans also recruited outside assistance, including former Sovereign’s Emissaries Lairdman and Hoss 177 178.

Andrew occupied and overwhelmed the enemy patriarchs while Gaiseresen and the other allied Asuras broke through their ranks. Lairdman was killed, his Soul Defense Sovereign Artifact was recovered, and Hoss fled 178 179.

The slaughter lasted three days. The Four Divine Beasts Clan lost more than fifty elders and nearly a million elite warriors, but almost every member of the Eight Great Clans stationed outside the Skyrite Mountains was killed. The fighting also split the enormous mountain range in two 180.

Bloodline Abilities

Ancestral Bloodline Baptism

The clan’s baptism awakens inherited Divine Beast abilities in descendants who are not themselves true Divine Beasts 80 154.

  • Azure Dragon descendants undergo baptism through the Dragon Transformation Pool 150.
  • Andrew expects baptism to awaken his descendants’ Azure Dragon innate abilities, giving them the potential to reach Six-Star Fiend strength or higher; these are projected outcomes, not immediate baptism rewards 110.
  • Beirut unsuccessfully attempts to reproduce a comparable method for strengthening his own descendants’ bloodlines 135.
  • Andrew does not require baptism because his mutation makes him a genuine Divine Beast 80.

Azure Dragon — Dragon Roar

Dragon Roar affects the flow of time through the Azure Dragon lineage’s Light of Innate Divine Ability 9 82.

  • Its effectiveness depends heavily on bloodline strength. At the same level, Gaiseresen’s Dragon Roar possesses less than one-tenth of Azure Dragon’s power 151.
  • Blu’s version alters time several dozenfold; Andrew’s mutated version changes it several hundredfold 160.
  • Azure Dragon-blooded fighters gain an unusually strong benefit from Water Sovereign Power 141.

White Tiger — Tiger Roar

Tiger Roar is a purely physical innate attack, described as the strongest of its kind among countless Divine Beasts 79 141.

  • The White Tiger patriarch uses it after being gravely wounded, leaving Bolin with a broken wing and a bloodied chest 141.
  • A Material Defense Sovereign Artifact does not guarantee protection if its user lacks sufficient strength 141.
  • The lineage also excels in speed and physical offense, though its patriarch has weaker defense than the other three patriarchs 141 151.

Black Tortoise — Defense

Black Tortoise’s innate ability belongs to the defensive category 79.

  • Its patriarch possesses exceptional bodily strength and the strongest physical defense among the four clan leaders 152 161.
  • This durability does not translate into exceptional speed; he cannot catch Hoss during the final battle 179.

Ancestral Fusion Ability

The original Four Divine Beasts could combine their innate abilities. Beirut witnessed the four Lower Sovereigns collectively match the Radiant Sovereign Augusta 69 150.

  • The four patriarchs share an elemental connection involving earth, water, wind, and fire, but cannot use their ancestors’ Fusion Divine Ability 150.
  • Their inherited powers are therefore not equivalent to the full abilities of the original Four Divine Beasts 150 151.

Culture and Internal Policy

Clan honor binds its members together but also limits their choices. Bernistan regards contributing to the war as an obligation of bloodline membership, while the White Tiger patriarch believes the feud can end only with one side’s destruction 102 139.

Andrew sees the clan’s pride as a cause of its decline. Gaiseresen’s refusal to authorize a surprise attack illustrates the conflict: he seeks to preserve both the clan’s dignity and its dwindling manpower, even when those goals contradict one another 135 153.

The leadership also conceals dangerous bloodline information. Only five or six members know that Andrew obtained his lineage through essence-blood fusion; the Grand Elder fears disclosure would encourage powerful outsiders to hunt clan members for their blood 161.

External Relationships

  • Eight Great Clans — Mortal enemies seeking revenge for injuries inflicted during the clan’s supremacy. Their greater reserves make attrition particularly dangerous until Andrew overturns the balance 135 180.
  • Beirut — Protector of the Skyrite Mountains and enforcer of the thousand-year truce. He refuses to fight the clan’s war for it, and its leaders remain deeply wary of his power 136 168 169.
  • Andrew Lance — Beneficiary of Azure Dragon’s legacy who treats rescuing the clan as repayment of a debt. Bloodline ties do not initially give him a strong emotional attachment to its institutions 138 139.
  • Pusluo — Asura-level ally who joins Andrew and the clan’s leaders in both the challenge delegation and the final campaign 166 177 178.
  • Sovereign Zijing — Old friend of all four ancestors. She recognizes Andrew as her junior because he possesses Azure Dragon’s bloodline 108.
  • Castled — The only one of the ancestors’ eight Sovereign’s Emissaries to fight for the clan after their disappearance. He dies in the conflict; Lairdman’s betrayal contributes to his death 177 179.
  • Lairdman and Hoss — Former Sovereign’s Emissaries recruited by the enemy coalition. The Black Tortoise patriarch acknowledges that disrespect from younger clan members helped drive emissaries away, but condemns Lairdman for helping kill Castled 177 179.
