Background / History
Wen Jing grew up in the wealthy Wen Family alongside his older sister, Wen Ning. The original Wen Ning doted on him, and he followed her lead almost unquestioningly, including in her hostility toward Bo Yan and Jiang Tingwan 21.
Before the transmigrated Wen Ning’s return home, Wen Jing took a group to the underground boxing arena where Bo Yan worked to cause trouble on his sister’s behalf. He failed to beat Bo Yan, suffered injuries himself, and spent a day at the police station. He also joined friends in threatening Jiang Tingwan and frightening her young daughter; a passerby mistook them for human traffickers and called the police, resulting in another police-station stay 21.
Wen Ning remembers that Wen Jing arranged to obtain drugs used against Bo Yan and Jiang Tingwan in the original plot. His later suggestion that she use the drug on Bo Xubai confirms his willingness to support coercive schemes for his sister’s supposed benefit 21 22.
Fate in the Original Novel
- Wen Jing becomes deeply attached to Jiang Tingwan, giving her whatever she wants despite her love for Bo Xubai 27.
- He ultimately falls to his death while saving her daughter 42.
- Knowing this outcome, the transmigrated Wen Ning makes preventing his destructive romantic attachment part of her effort to save the Wen Family 21 27.
Appearance
- Height: Approximately 188 centimeters 21.
- Features: Handsome enough to stand out in a crowd, with a roughly fifty-to-sixty-percent resemblance to his sister 21.
- Hair: A slightly parted, textured fringe at his introduction 21.
- Clothing and accessories: Introduced wearing a burgundy satin shirt and conspicuous jewelry around his neck and on his fingers; later wears a similarly garish outdoor jacket 21 50.
Personality
Wen Jing is fiercely protective of his sister and quick to act before thinking. Seeing her injuries, he immediately prepares to attack Bo Yan; after accepting her explanation that a stray dog caused them, he instead threatens to find and cook the dog. His concern is sincere enough to move the transmigrated Wen Ning, despite her awareness that his affection originally belonged to the body’s former owner 21 22.
He is naïve, emotionally transparent, and easily influenced by people he loves. Wen Ning exposes his secret crush with a bluff, prompting him to confess that he hugged Jiang Tingwan and insist that his feelings are entirely one-sided. Nevertheless, he can listen to reason: his sister’s explanation of Bo Yan’s mistreatment makes him reconsider his prejudice against Bo Yan’s illegitimate birth 23 27.
At home, he is playful, attention-seeking, and frequently outmatched by his sister’s teasing. He complains when she favors Bo Yan and seeks praise from his parents, but he also deliberately jokes to ease her anxiety during their stormy journey to the Bo residence 30 31 50.
Relationships
- Wen Ning — Older sister and the person whose lead he habitually follows. Their affectionate bickering continues after her transmigration, while she actively tries to protect him from his original fate 21 22 27.
- Bo Yan — Brother-in-law and former target of his hostility. Wen Jing gradually accepts him, trusts him to find his missing sister, and later helps shelter him after discovering his father’s abuse 21 28 43 50.
- Jiang Tingwan — Unrequited love interest. He comforts her when she cries and worries about her treatment in the Bo household, but she rarely answers his messages afterward 24 27.
- Bo Xubai — Initially addressed as “Brother Xu” and treated as his prospective brother-in-law. Wen Jing nevertheless resents both his treatment of Wen Ning and his failure to protect Jiang Tingwan from grievances 22 24.
- Wen Haichuan — Father. When Wen Jing asks for praise, Wen Haichuan settles for congratulating him on no longer drooling in his sleep 31.
- Bai Rong / Mother Wen — Mother. She directs him to provide clothes for Bo Yan’s overnight stay and later entrusts him with driving Wen Ning safely through the storm 31 47 50.
- Tian Xin — His sister’s best friend. They coordinate after Wen Ning disappears, though Wen Jing must persuade the furious Tian Xin to give Bo Yan time to locate her 43.
