Background and History
Previous Life and Childhood
In his previous life, Kazu was an orphan named Meng Yuan. After finishing middle school, he worked for more than a decade to buy a home, only to die suddenly after paying for it in full. Reborn into the world of One Piece, he experienced family affection for the first time through his mother, Navia 1.
Mother and son lived in a wooden cabin deep in the mountains, supporting themselves through hunting and trading animal pelts. Navia trained him from childhood, repeatedly insisting that his father’s son was destined to become strong 1.
When Kazu was seventeen, Navia died from a terminal illness despite his efforts to find a doctor who could save her. Before dying, she asked him to go to sea and, once strong enough, beat his father on her behalf. Kazu buried her near their cabin and remained there for a year of mourning before departing 1.
Entering Piracy
After setting sail, Kazu obtained the God-Level Idle System, the Space-Space Fruit, the Sword Saint inheritance, and Muramasa. He initially traveled in a small wooden boat, then seized a pirate ship after incapacitating its crew with Conqueror’s Haki. He kept his original boat for its sentimental value 2 3.
He recruited Carlmand after defeating him in a duel and later brought Behrens aboard. An encounter with Shanks established that Kazu could threaten a major pirate through the combination of swordsmanship and spatial attacks, even though Shanks’s Conqueror’s Haki was then considerably stronger 7 9 29.
Kazu also met Monkey D. Dragon, tested his developing spatial techniques against him, and shared revolutionary ideas drawn from his previous life. He declined Dragon’s invitation to join the Revolutionary Army because its work was not the life he wanted 21 22 24.
Confrontation with the Marines
In Loguetown, Kazu defeated Smoker and later severed his left arm when the Marines renewed their attempt to surround him. Aokiji intervened, leading to a prolonged confrontation in which the Admiral identified Kazu’s spatial ability 31 34 35 36.
The Marines subsequently offered him a Shichibukai position through Rear Admiral Petrov, citing both his strength and his record of not harming civilians. Kazu refused, warned the authorities against provoking him, and teleported Petrov’s warship away 43.
Building the Blond Hair Pirates
Kazu used his knowledge of the world to strengthen his companions. He located the Rumble-Rumble Fruit on Sky Island and gave it to Behrens, having already explained how its speed, perception enhancement, and lightning attacks would complement Behrens’s gunplay 64 67.
He also coordinated with Dragon to have the Revolutionary Army ready to take over Saierde after the Blond Hair Pirates attacked its king and nobles. Drew and his companions welcomed the plan as a way to save their country 83.
At the No. 1 Auction House, Kazu tortured and killed Saint Charlos after the Celestial Dragon coveted his companions. He also secretly took the Chilly-Chilly Fruit from the auction stage, while the auction staff reported Charlos’s death to the Marines 106.
Reunion with Whitebeard
Kazu challenged Whitebeard to fulfill Navia’s final request. Their battle lasted more than a day, ending when Whitebeard’s age, injuries, and exhaustion caught up with him. Kazu deliberately struck the finishing blow with the back of Muramasa, then caught his father before he fell into the sea 120 124 129.
Afterward, Kazu accepted Whitebeard as his father and called him “Pops.” He acknowledged that Whitebeard had not known he existed and had not deliberately abandoned him 130.
Kazu declined an invitation to become Whitebeard’s Second Division Commander, choosing to preserve his crew’s independence and adventures. He nevertheless left a Space Mark aboard the Moby Dick so he could provide immediate support. After obtaining Pure Gold, he returned to deliver a ring to his father 134 135 138.
New World Campaigns
The Blond Hair Pirates were thanked by King Riku for saving Dressrosa. Kazu later fought Big Mom, pressured her into ending their battle, took Galette as part of his demands, and returned with Robin to claim Poneglyphs from the castle 178 191 195 196 198.
In Wano, Kazu seized Kozuki Hiyori from her palanquin and subjected Orochi to repeated spatial torture followed by Time Rewind. He also defeated Yamato while using only about 20% of his strength; Kaido recognized that Kazu had been humoring her 243 248 260.
By the New Year gathering aboard the Moby Dick, Kazu was recognized as Pirate King for having sailed around the world. Whitebeard’s division commanders respected both his status and his overwhelming strength 274.
World Government Conflict and Finale
During the Germa encounter, Kazu secured Judge’s agreement to provide raid suits and forced him to remove his genetic control over Reiju. Reiju then joined the Blond Hair Pirates 280 281.
The World Government attempted to constrain Kazu by drawing Whitebeard into a coordinated assault. Kazu detected the unusually powerful fighters hidden among the approaching fleets. His ensuing attack required numerous opponents to resist together, and Whitebeard’s intervention broke their defense 283 285 290.
Kazu later transported allied ships toward the confrontation with the World Government and personally faced Imu. His spatial displacement and time manipulation left Imu struggling to counter him 311 314 315.
After evolving his Devil Fruit into a Divine Zoan, Kazu opened a passage to his previous world and arrived in wartime China. He aided Chinese forces against Japanese troops before returning to his palace. Only half an hour had passed for his companions, revealing that time flowed differently between the worlds. The story ends with Kazu surrounded by loved ones and expecting the birth of his child 323 324 325.
Appearance
Kazu is exceptionally tall and powerfully built, standing over three meters at eighteen. He is blond and repeatedly described as handsome 1 141 265.
- Hybrid form: Blue-white coloration with pale blue scales 260 314.
- Dragon form: Capable of becoming a dragon large and striking enough to be interpreted as a divine omen 324.
- Tail: Uses his tail as a close-range weapon while transformed 210.
Personality
Kazu values freedom more than wealth, office, or institutional protection. He defines freedom as having enough strength to refuse unwanted demands and wants that same independence for his family and friends. This outlook underlies his refusals to join the Revolutionary Army, the Shichibukai, or the Whitebeard Pirates 24 29 43 135.
He is playful, boastful, and openly womanizing. He enjoys banquets, teasing his companions, and provoking strong opponents into fights. His apparent laziness is partly enabled by the idle system, which lets him grow stronger while relaxing 20 29 30 43 130.
His protectiveness coexists with possessiveness and cruelty. He promises security to people under his care, but threats against his romantic companions can provoke torture and killing. His treatment of Charlos and Orochi shows that he is willing to prolong an enemy’s suffering rather than simply defeat them 106 141 248 280.
Kazu has little concern for preserving the original story he remembers. He regards changing events as proof that he is genuinely living in this world. In combat, he likewise rejects the idea that a powerful fighter must fight honorably, freely using ambushes, restraints, deception, and attacks from behind 24 132 154 191.
Abilities and Skills
God-Level Idle System
The system supplies passive growth, special rewards, and major ability upgrades 2 3 76 323.
- Daily rewards: Incremental increases to stamina and Haki 3.
- Calendar-based critical rewards: Month-end and year-end rewards can provide larger improvements or techniques; the month-end trigger follows the Sea Circle Calendar rather than time since activation 13 76.
- Major grants: Sword Saint inheritance, Muramasa, Iron Balloon, and an Evolution Card 2 47 323.
- Training interaction: Kazu states that training the same areas himself conflicts with the system’s idle training, so he concentrates on fruit development and combining abilities 20.
Spatial Manipulation
Kazu’s original Space-Space Fruit provides displacement, spatial attacks, restraints, storage, and perception. These techniques remain available after his transformation into a Zoan user 2 202.
- Space Swap: Instantly changes positions to evade, ambush, transport companions, or move ships and enormous creatures 7 43 136.
- Long-distance passage: Opens a spatial teleportation route for travel over extreme distances 76.
- Space Mark: Establishes a destination he can revisit; he also marks Judge’s heart to ensure compliance with their agreement 135 281.
- Independent Space: Stores weapons, furniture, food, and other supplies 28 47 110 274.
- Space Compression: Layers compressed space over fists or blades to increase striking power 9 109.
- Spatial attacks: Includes Space Slash, Space Collapse, Space Bullets, Spatial Severing, and spatial needles 9 22 36 67 248.
- Space Confinement: Restrains targets by compressing their surrounding space; Aokiji breaks free using Haki 36.
- Space Barrier: Can cover a blade’s edge to reduce its cutting effect, as used while holding back against Yamato 260.
- Scale: Moves Alchemi and the Divine Dragon to Mukelong and later lifts dozens of ships into the sky 136 311.
Combat limitations:
- Strong Observation Haki can track or anticipate his otherwise difficult-to-detect attacks 9 13 36.
- Spatial displacement does not inherently add the momentum-based striking power of high-speed acceleration 109.
- Early in his voyage, Shanks’s superior Conqueror’s Haki interfered with his still-shallow fruit mastery 9.
Spatial Perception and Absolute Space
Absolute Space senses minute spatial fluctuations and combines that information with Observation Haki 22.
- Detects movement, attacks, and sounds, including conversations within its effective range 22.
- Improves both the practical effectiveness of Observation Haki and the efficiency of its development 23.
- Allows internal inspection to locate weak points and hidden objects; sufficiently strong Haki covering a target reduces this effect 76.
- Reveals concealed military preparations and unusually powerful fighters among enemy fleets 30 285.
- Originally supported selective elementalization before attacks landed. This was predictive evasion, not Katakuri-style Future Sight, and elementalization was lost after the Zoan transformation 22 202.
Time Manipulation
Kazu acquires temporal powers alongside his Spacetime Divine Dragon abilities 202 203.
- Time Rewind: Restores an object or person to an earlier condition 203 248.
- Memory retention: Restores Orochi’s body without erasing his memory of the torture 248.
- Time Elapse: An available technique that Kazu considers less useful than directly defeating an opponent 203.
- Combined restraint: Uses temporal and spatial power together to prevent Judge from moving or speaking 281.
- Interworld travel: Opens a passage to his previous world after the Divine Zoan evolution; active power use reduces his remaining time there 324.
Haki
| Type / Technique | Demonstrated Proficiency |
|---|---|
| Armament Haki | Hardening, coating, emission, internal destruction, and full-body coating 5 36. |
| Observation Haki | Detects distant presences and guides evasive combat; greatly extended by spatial perception 22 40. |
| Conqueror’s Haki | Knocks out groups, pressures powerful opponents, and eventually damages surrounding structures 3 76 231. |
| Conqueror’s coating | Applies Conqueror’s Haki to weapons and physical attacks 76 191. |
| Conqueror’s Haki Defense / Observation Haki Killer | Received as techniques, but his Haki was initially insufficient to use either 76. |
| Emperor’s Haki | An evolved form stated to overwhelmingly surpass Conqueror’s Haki 323. |
Swordsmanship
The Sword Saint inheritance allows Kazu to perform advanced sword techniques despite having no prior sword training when he receives it 2.
- Flying Slashes: Projects cutting attacks over a distance 2.
- Space Compression Slash: Combines Muramasa with layered spatial compression 9.
- Raging Dragon Slash / Rising Upper Slash: Used during his confrontation with Aokiji 35 36.
- Conqueror’s Coating–Sky-Splitting Battō Slash: Combines a drawing strike, Conqueror’s Haki, and penetrating spatial power 123.
- Ultimate Ghost Swordsmanship: Storm Style: Employs a twenty-four-sword formation coated in Armament Haki while Muramasa carries Conqueror’s coating 128.
- Phantom Sword Dance: Produces dense, rapid slashes capable of meeting Garp’s barrage of punches 156 210.
Physique, Transformation, and Martial Arts
Kazu inherits tremendous natural strength from Whitebeard, then compounds it with Iron Balloon and Zoan enhancements 47 202.
- Iron Balloon: Greatly increases strength and durability 47.
- Six Powers: Trained under Navia; directly demonstrates Soru and Shigan 1 2 124.
- Hybrid transformation: Enhances strength, agility, recovery, endurance, and durability 208.
- Divine Zoan enhancement: More than doubles the power of his body upon evolution 323.
- Seawater exposure: Remains fully capable after Garp drenches him in seawater. The encounter demonstrates resistance to that tactic, not a documented test of full submersion 210.
- Spatial unarmed techniques: Includes Space Ripple Fist and Conqueror’s Coating–Space Piercing Fist 191.
Other Skills
- Wilderness survival: Grew up hunting and selling pelts with Navia 1.
- Instruction: Guides Makino’s training and helps develop Behrens’s Haki and physical combat skills 30 98.
- Political insight: Uses ideas from his previous life to advise Dragon on organization, discipline, resources, and popular support 24.
- Billiards: Considerably outclasses Drew, Carlmand, and Behrens 158.
- Alcohol tolerance: Drinks seven or eight Whitebeard division commanders under the table 130.

Notable Quotes
“I think true freedom isn't about living without worries. It's about having the absolute strength to say no when you're faced with something you don't want to do.” 29
“I want to become strong so that the family and friends around me can live freely.” 29
“If I really want someone who is the World's Strongest to fulfill my ambitions, then I need only become that person myself.” 195
Trivia
- Kazu initially has no intention of becoming Pirate King, despite eventually receiving the title after circumnavigating the world 143 274.
- His full name contains no D., a fact that confounds Imu’s expectations about threats connected to the Great Kingdom 291.
- He draws inspiration from fiction remembered from his previous life: Absolute Space follows the principle of Enel’s enhanced perception, while his internal inspection ability is inspired by the Byakugan 22 76.
