Ninigi-no-Mikoto questioned Amaterasu about her failure to stop Shinsei, and she revealed that gods and immortals had once been human. Kukurihime-no-Kami showed him a vision of Otsutsuki Kaguya destroying Takamagahara and explained that this was their unavoidable fate.

• Ninigi-no-Mikoto asked Amaterasu why she had not intervened when Shinsei caused havoc at the altar.

• Ninigi-no-Mikoto asked whether Kukurihime could change or recheck her prophecy, but she explained that her visions had failed.
• Kukurihime described Shinsei and a second, still-hidden giant whale disrupting the river of fate, leaving the future obscured.

Shinsei discovered that his Mangekyō eyes craved devouring the gods of Takamagahara, a craving Otsutsuki Kaguya shared but resisted. As they decided to leave before his eyes got out of control, Ninigi-no-Mikoto ordered Kagutsuchi-no-Mikoto to return and stop Shinsei at the cloud wall.

• Shinsei admitted to Otsutsuki Kaguya that his eyes wanted to devour the gods, and she revealed that her eyes had the same craving.
• Shinsei and Otsutsuki Kaguya agreed to leave and postpone dealing with the God Tree until his eyes were under control.

Shinsei and Kaguya reached a small town where a giant toad staged an attack before a white-robed immortal drove it away. The immortal demanded daily human sacrifices to restore his power, then seized a couple after the man questioned what had happened to the previous offering.

• Shinsei and Kaguya disguised themselves and entered a small town, where villagers prayed to the God of Blazing Flames.
• A giant toad approached the town and stuffed a woman and other villagers into a pouch in its mouth without harming them.
• A white-robed immortal attacked the toad with white fire and drove it away, then claimed his power was nearly exhausted.
• The immortal demanded one person each day as an offering so he could restore his power and suppress the toad.
• A middle-aged man said the previous offering, Shūta, had never returned, and the immortal seized him and the woman beside him as the next sacrifices.

Shinsei killed the false sage who had been sacrificing villagers, and the toad Heipi returned to Mount Myōboku with news of him. Gamamaru warned the toads to avoid Shinsei and his companion, but urged them to find a mysterious middle-aged man who might help confront the Ōtsutsuki.

• Shinsei restrained the sage and learned he had staged attacks by a toad to frighten villagers into accepting human sacrifices.

• Kaguya told Shinsei she was hungry, and he caught and roasted a rabbit for them to eat.
• Kaguya sensed someone approaching, and a blazing figure swept through the forest, setting the trees alight.
• Kagutsuchi introduced himself as the flame of Takamagahara and said Amaterasu had ordered him to take Shinsei and Kaguya back.

Shinsei defeated Kagutsuchi with Susanoo and absorbed him through his Mangekyō Sharingan, gaining the ability to wield real fire. As Shinsei collapsed and recovered, Kaguya apologized, saying she should have remembered sooner.
