| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Name | Power of Tremors |
| Original Name | 震荡之力 |
| Classification | The quaking force underlying Uya’s Quake Release Kekkei Genkai; later revealed to be a primordial power 10 499. |
| Origin | A God Tree Fruit, initially mistaken by Uya for the Tremor-Tremor Fruit 10 499. |
| Known Users | Uya, also known as Kusanagi Yoru; his daughter Yuxi also demonstrates the power 102 504. |
| Related Power | Whitebeard’s Tremor-Tremor Fruit produces an equivalent tremor force, despite having a different origin 578. |
| First Appearance | Uya’s initial awakening and testing of Quake Release 10. |
Power Progression
Uya explicitly matches the numbered stages of the Power of Tremors to the gates of his True Eight Gates Released Formation 82.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Initial awakening | 10 | Snaps an already-damaged wooden post, but only shakes a large tree. Breaking C-rank ninjutsu remains difficult. |
| Early development | 18 | Becomes strong enough to shatter C-rank ninjutsu and overwhelm Uchiha Kan in close combat. |
| First stage — First Gate | 25 | Easily shatters C-rank ninjutsu; effective range reaches nearly three meters. |
| Second stage — Second Gate | 41 82 | Tremor strength increases almost threefold, allowing Uya to shatter B-rank ninjutsu. Full-force range expands to five–ten meters. |
| Monstrous Strength integration | 54 | Completes Monstrous Strength Unrivaled after a month of training. The combination shatters upper-tier B-rank ninjutsu and improves directional control. |
| Rasengan integration | 66 67 | Stabilizes a tremor core inside a Rasengan, creating the S-rank secret technique Collapse and Destruction. |
| Independent high-frequency tremors | 67 | Develops Shockwave Slash, an A-rank, single-line attack with low chakra consumption and no recovery lag. |
| Third stage — Third Gate | 81 82 | Ordinary punches shatter low-powered A-rank ninjutsu; Monstrous Strength Unrivaled shatters mid-powered A-rank techniques. Unlocks freely launched tremors through Air Shatter. |
| Lightning Release body-tempering improvement | 93 | Increased toughness strengthens ordinary punches to roughly mid-powered A-rank. Enhanced punches shatter high-powered A-rank techniques; greater speed raises Consecutive Flash from three tremors to five. |
| Fourth stage — Fourth Gate | 172 188 | Reaches S-rank power after Uya completes the second stage of Lightning Release body tempering and opens the Fourth Gate. Can release tremors in every direction from his body. |
| Concentrated forward eruption | 219 220 221 | Restricts a broad attack into a dense, forward-extending volume. Overcomes the Third Raikage’s One-Finger Nukite and becomes increasingly condensed through repeated clashes. |
| Fifth stage — Fifth Gate | 238 | Uya judges that a casual, unconcentrated punch could now kill an opponent like the Third Raikage. |
| Shockwave Fist | 275 | Over a month of sparring with Kushina, further compression transforms tremors into shockwaves capable of stripping away the Nine-Tails’ Kusanagi Sword armor. |
| Freely controlled attack geometry | 320 | Can spread attacks across dozens of kilometers or compress them into a line or point. Uya now treats tremors and shockwaves as different manifestations of the same force. |
| Spatial destruction | 410 419 | Can shatter space and Truth-Seeking Orbs. A later punch destroys the moon; spatial instability within the attack prevents Flying Thunder God from being used to escape. |
| Partial recovery in the pirate world | 554 556 | With roughly one-fifth to one-quarter of his power recovered, Uya gravely wounds Kaido with a tremor punch that makes space itself shudder. |
| Space-shattering output in the pirate world | 616 | Recovered strength permits genuine spatial rifts. A full-force tremor attack breaks a Truth-Seeking Orb curtain and overwhelms Kong’s Armament Haki. |
Origin and History
Uya initially identifies his new ability as the Tremor-Tremor Fruit’s power. Because its activation consumes a tiny amount of chakra, he adopts the name Quake Release Kekkei Genkai. His early tests establish that its output depends primarily on physical strength rather than large chakra reserves, directing his training toward taijutsu and bodily enhancement 10.
The resemblance to the Tremor-Tremor Fruit is eventually revealed to be misleading. Uya’s fruit was a God Tree Fruit, and the Power of Tremors is a primordial ability comparable in origin to Kaguya’s powers. Whereas Kaguya’s fruit emphasizes spiritual power and control through dōjutsu, Uya’s emphasizes physical power and destruction 498 499.
After entering the pirate world, Uya encounters Whitebeard’s actual Tremor-Tremor Fruit ability. The narration distinguishes their origins while stating that there is no difference in the tremor force itself. Their direct clash produces nearly identical powers, pulverizing the surrounding ice 578 579 580.
Mechanics
Physical Strength and Chakra
- Physical strength determines output: A stronger body allows Uya to unleash stronger tremors. Opening additional gates strengthens his body, chakra, and tremor power together 10 25.
- Ordinary activation is inexpensive: Its chakra cost is far below that of a D-rank ninjutsu, making basic use practical even with Uya’s initially poor reserves 10.
- Chakra is not its entire substance: Nagato’s Preta Path can destabilize and weaken it by absorbing chakra, but cannot completely erase the remaining force 167 168.
- Chakra-intensive combinations remain costly: Adding Monstrous Strength or using the Rasengan-based secret technique substantially increases expenditure 54 67.
Tremors, Shockwaves, and Range
- The force is fundamentally rending and tearing, rather than merely an impact that knocks targets backward 42.
- Early attacks sweep across the area ahead of Uya, striking opponents even when they avoid his physical fist 18.
- Broad coverage supports simultaneous offense and defense, but initially sacrifices destructive power against a single point 65.
- Later control allows Uya to spread the force across an area or compress it into a point or line; concentrated output manifests as a shockwave 275 320.
Visible Manifestation
- Early use surrounds the fist or weapon with a faint white halo; stronger output produces brighter, translucent white light 10 82.
- Released tremors create white, mirror-like fractures in the air. These initially appear as though space has broken; later attacks genuinely shatter space 12 410.
- High-frequency Shockwave Slash can be invisible, without the usual halo 67.
- At full space-shattering output, black spatial rifts appear among the fractures 616.
Abilities and Techniques
Air Quakes
Uya strikes the air as though it were solid, transmitting quaking force without requiring direct contact 10.
- Can be added to punches, taijutsu, thrown kunai, and shuriken 10.
- Collapse: Directs tremors downward with a palm strike, attacking both the target and the ground 42.
- Sever: Sends tremors to both sides, splitting the field 42.
- Pierce: Uses an uppercut to direct tremors upward 42.
Earth Shaking Technique
Channels tremors into the ground to produce earthquakes, upheaval, and spreading fissures 42.
- Reaches enemies hiding underground and breaks apart soil and solid rock 102 127.
- Repeated waves can overcome hardened underground defenses and collapse the earth onto buried opponents 127.
- Later precision permits constructive terrain work, including raising Rōran and combining Quake Release with Sage Art: Earth Release to build its surrounding wall 366.
Monstrous Strength Unrivaled
Layers Tsunade’s Monstrous Strength technique with the Power of Tremors for a substantially stronger punch 54.
- The directed chakra burst improves concentration of the tremors and offsets some recoil 54.
- Scales with both physical development and improvements in chakra reserves and control 54.
- Repeated use initially drains chakra and stamina rapidly, unlike ordinary tremor attacks 54.
- Its cost becomes more manageable after Uya obtains jonin-level chakra reserves 93.
Collapse and Destruction
An S-rank secret technique that contains the Power of Tremors at the center of a stable Rasengan 66 67.
- Balances the Rasengan’s rotation against the tremors, producing high-frequency destruction rather than a conventional explosion 67.
- Once stable, it maintains itself without continued control and can be thrown, although its slow flight makes it easier to dodge 66.
- Its first successful test silently reduces a large tree to powder 66.
- Later described as countless Shockwave Slashes gathered at one central point; its strength continues rising with the underlying tremor power 190.
- Initially nearly exhausts Uya’s chakra, limiting its practicality 67.
Shockwave Slash
Raises tremors on a blade to a high frequency, concentrating destructive force along a single line 67.
- Provides Chakra Flow-like cutting power without actually being Chakra Flow 67.
- Consumes little chakra and avoids the recovery lag of early tremor punches 67.
- Initially releases its stored force in one strike and must be charged again; it is not a sustained coating 67.
- Offers limited protection against attacks from multiple directions, and even refined steel cannot withstand its high-frequency force 67.
- A later use with the Kusanagi Sword splits Pain’s Super Shinra Tensei 283.
Air Shatter and Consecutive Flash
Air Shatter launches a mass of ordinary tremor power from a blade, allowing it to erupt away from Uya 82.
- Removes recovery lag and extends reach, at the cost of some power; this blade-based application cannot be stacked with Monstrous Strength 82.
- Air Shatter Consecutive Flash, also called Continuous Flash, combines rapid movement with tremors converging on one point from different directions 82 93.
- Initially stacks three attacks for top-tier A-rank output; improved speed later permits five, identified as the technique’s instantaneous stacking limit 82 93.
- A target caught by the first blast is immobilized, making the following hits difficult to evade. Immediate retreat or sufficient concentrated power to break out can counter it 82.
Omnidirectional Defense and Genjutsu Disruption
At the fourth stage, Uya can emit tremors directly from his body in every direction 188.
- Destroys the Third Kazekage’s surrounding Iron Sand Drizzle without requiring Uya to move 188.
- A controlled internal tremor interrupts disturbed chakra flow, allowing ordinary genjutsu to be broken without hand seals 42 232.
- Uya demonstrates this against Uchiha Kan’s Sharingan genjutsu; his early assessment does not establish immunity to exceptional techniques such as Tsukuyomi or Kotoamatsukami 42 44.
Shockwave Sensing
A sensory application used to examine surroundings and analyze details 337 383.
- Scans an entire underground cavern and clearly detects its contents 337.
- Provides sufficiently thorough analysis for Uya to identify shortcomings in Haku’s training 383.
Limitations and Counters
| Limitation / Counter | Effect |
|---|---|
| Early recovery lag | Uya must briefly hold his punching stance until the tremors finish erupting. An enemy who penetrates the attack can exploit his immobility; Shockwave Slash and launched Air Shatter avoid this limitation 64 67 82. |
| Concentrated piercing attacks | Early broad-area tremors can lose to stronger single-point attacks. Sakumo’s Chakra Flow-enhanced White Fang can cut through the force 64 65 94. |
| Opposing defensive strength | Quake Release does not automatically negate ordinary ninjutsu. Sufficiently strong techniques can block it, unlike Dust Release’s disintegration of lower-order powers 191. |
| Compression instability | Early attempts twist a steel kunai, while an incomplete Rasengan fails to contain the tearing force 65 66. |
| Physical burden | Rapid repeated releases can make Uya’s body tremble. Body tempering improves his tolerance 102. |
| Limited propulsion | The force produces too little recoil for practical tremor-based high-speed movement or aerial maneuvering. Its brief rigidity can nevertheless keep Uya suspended momentarily 113 138. |
| Momoshiki’s absorption | Unlike Nagato’s Preta Path, Momoshiki’s palm Rinnegan completely absorbs and amplifies a tremor attack. Uya can still neutralize the reflected force because it remains his Power of Tremors 167 505. |
Notable Applications
| Application | Result |
|---|---|
| Battlefield suppression | Two punches destroy incoming ninjutsu and kill more than twenty Sunagakure ninja during Uya’s confrontation with Chiyo 118. |
| Weapon control denial | Coating the Kusanagi Sword with tremors cuts off the Third Kazekage’s Magnet Release control 188. |
| Amaterasu extinguishment | Uya encloses the black flames within tremor power and extinguishes them 243. |
| Controlled destruction of Susanoo | Blasts apart Complete Body Susanoo’s upper half, then traps and obliterates its restored sword between two tremor forces without allowing sword energy to escape toward nearby allies or Amegakure 343. |
| Tenseigan confrontation | Reduces the Giant Tenseigan to dust and, using a Truth-Seeking Orb Scepter, stops Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion as cracks spread across the moon 417. |
| Six Paths combat | Destroys one of Madara’s Limbo shadows, demonstrating that the ability remains effective in battles at that level 496. |
| Yuxi’s use | Uya’s daughter shatters space with a small punch and drives Orochimaru into a rock face 504. |
