Background and History

Orphanhood and Konoha

Uya came from a minor ninja village destroyed by Sunagakure. Konoha ninja rescued him as the fighting's sole survivor and brought him to their village. He retained only fragmented memories of his parents in this world, alongside memories of a previous life in which he knew the Naruto story 9 11 38 96.

His outsider status left him isolated. Other students dismissed him, Konoha ninja distrusted him, and most of his orphan relief money was withheld, leaving barely enough for food. Despite difficulty extracting chakra, he continued training his body rather than abandoning the prospect of becoming a ninja 9 12 16.

Kushina became his closest childhood friend. Both had arrived from other villages at roughly the same time; Uya initially helped relieve her loneliness, while she later supported him with food, money, and encouragement when her own circumstances improved 11 16.

Academy and Anbu

After defeating Uchiha Izumiya during an Academy assessment, Uya attracted hostility from the Uchiha Clan. Preparing for a duel with Uchiha Kan, he took three months' leave and worked with Might Duy to devise a reverse-training version of the Eight Gates Released Formation 17 23.

His subsequent growth attracted Hiruzen Sarutobi's attention and secured him a place among the Anbu reserves while he was still an Academy student. His Anbu membership remained secret even as his reputation as an Academy genius spread throughout Konoha 38 51 69.

Within Anbu, Uya gained access to training records and developed his combination of Monstrous Strength and Quake Release. Hatake Sakumo later identified the immobility following his punches as a dangerous weakness, prompting Uya to pursue more flexible attacks 52 54 64.

Second Shinobi World War

Uya's early deployment to the Land of Rain exposed him directly to wartime casualties. Guren Gekko, the captain who had protected and guided him for over a month, died before his eyes during an ambush 83 85.

During the war, Uya met Yahiko and Konan and eventually took them as disciples. He also rescued Tsunade from an elite Iwagakure unit, revealing his identity only after the battle and carrying her to a concealed tree hollow to recover 96 111 275.

His major wartime achievements included routing more than a thousand Iwagakure ninja, joining Sakumo to defeat Ōnoki, and fighting alongside the Sannin to drive back Hanzō. These victories established the reputation of Konoha Shura across the shinobi world 145 174 445.

Uya later invaded Sunagakure alone, killed the Third Kazekage, and drove Shukaku into retreat. By his return to Konoha, his strength had far surpassed Tsunade's despite his being younger than thirteen 194 197.

Departure and Rule of Amegakure

Uya's relationship with Konoha deteriorated amid repeated Uchiha assassination attempts and his distrust of its leadership. After opening the Fifth Gate, he selected the clan's leadership succession ceremony as the occasion to confront its hostility 229 239.

He eventually left Konoha with Kushina and helped her obtain control of the Nine-Tails' power. Their departure severely weakened Konoha, although other villages were uncertain whether it constituted a formal defection 270 275 276.

After killing Hanzō, Uya took control of Amegakure and became its First Amekage. His presence kept the Land of Rain outside the surrounding war and led other great villages to seek alliances on equal terms. Amegakure consequently came to be regarded as a sixth great shinobi village 289 293 381.

He delegated much of the administration to Konan and devoted himself to training, including Sage Body cultivation at Mount Myōboku. During this period, he also defeated the returned Madara Uchiha, a development that shocked the shinobi world 290 345.

Six Paths Era

Uya took Haku and Kimimaro into his care during a journey through the Land of Water. He later intervened in the Hyuga Clan's treatment of Hinata and accepted her as his disciple, explicitly choosing to protect her rather than judging her worth by her talent 383 389 415.

After completing the True Eight Gates Released Formation, he confronted opponents on a dimensional scale. During his battle with Kaguya, he pursued her through spatial passages and destroyed both her frozen and lava worlds to prevent her from prolonging the chase 474 501.

Following Kaguya's death, Uya studied—but did not eat—the God Tree Fruit she left behind. He then gave it to Kushina and created a small parallel space where they lived, with friends and disciples visiting 503.

Marine Career and Temporal Research

Uya later entered the world of the Marines and pirates while much of his power was recovering. His draw with Hawk-Eye brought him public attention, and he pursued swordsmanship and Haki as additional disciplines rather than relying solely on his existing abilities 512 520 570.

As a Marine vice admiral, he requested Ain as his adjutant. The World Government subsequently appointed him supreme admiral of all forces, equal in status to the commander-in-chief but with less authority. He showed little enthusiasm for the appointment, prioritizing temporal research instead 520 587.

His research progressed from studying Ain's age-reversing power to consuming the Look-Back Fruit and investigating the world's temporal laws. He eventually retrieved Kuina from the past and resurrected her, but discovered that temporal rejection threatened to erase her. He offered to suppress it and accepted her as his disciple 521 560 621 622 623.

Personality

Uya is persistent, pragmatic, and intensely focused on strength. His earliest goal is simply survival, and he continues training despite poverty, rejection, and apparent ninjutsu failure. He prefers developing a coherent fighting system over collecting techniques, and considers personal power more important than rank or political authority 9 25 52 54 156.

His loyalty centers on individuals rather than institutions. He distrusts Konoha's political maneuvering and particularly loathes Danzo, yet admires Might Duy's sincerity, Anbu members' sacrifices, and Might Guy's determination. He does not seek universal peace as an overriding mission; threats to Kushina and those close to him are what most reliably provoke his intervention 22 52 283 428 478.

With trusted companions, he is affectionate and teasing. His growing power makes him increasingly detached from ordinary people, but he consciously retains human attachments and enjoys meeting figures he remembered from his previous life. He also avoids destruction without purpose, choosing negotiation when he finds Rōran peaceful 111 229 270 363 570.

Quake Release — Power of Tremors

Uya's defining power produces destructive vibrations that tear through targets rather than merely knocking them backward 42.
