Chapters 258–282 Vol. 3 Read

Ch. 258Dense natural energy

Uya crossed Labyrinth Mountain and entered Mount Myōboku, where he found that its dense natural energy could greatly accelerate his progress toward a Sage Body. As he began absorbing it, Gamabunta approached, forcing Uya to face an encounter with the Toad Clan.

  • Uya used Shockwave Sensing to navigate Labyrinth Mountain and absorbed the natural energy that tried to interfere with his perception.
  • Uya entered Mount Myōboku and found its natural energy denser than that of the surrounding mountains.
  • Uya discovered that he could store natural energy in the five opened gates of the True Eight Gates Released Formation, allowing it to merge into his body over time.
  • Uya estimated that repeated cycles of filling the gates and merging their energy could give him a Sage Body within a year or two.
  • Gamabunta approached Uya shortly after he entered Mount Myōboku.

Ch. 259Gamabunta

Uya encountered Gamabunta on Mount Myōboku after his powerful absorption of natural energy drew the toad’s attention. Uya pinned Gamabunta down and revealed that he had created his own Sage Mode, then stopped Gamabunta’s sword with a single finger.

  • Gamabunta sensed a disturbance in the natural energy and leaped toward its source.
  • Uya dodged Gamabunta’s landing and appeared on top of his head.
  • Gamabunta tried to throw Uya off, but Uya’s force pressed him flat against the ground.
  • Gamabunta recognized Uya’s Sage Mode and questioned where he had learned it; Uya said he had created it himself.
  • Gamabunta drew his short sword and slashed at Uya, who stopped the blade with a light finger flick.

Ch. 260Fukasaku and Shima

Uya arrived at Mount Myōboku to train in Sage Mode and fought off the toads who tried to capture him. Fukasaku and Toad Shima reached the scene and found the other toads sprawled across the ground.

  • Uya stopped Gamabunta’s sword with one finger and snapped it in half.
  • More toads arrived, recognized Uya as the source of the natural-energy disturbance, and challenged him.
  • Uya said he had come to Mount Myōboku to train in Sage Mode, angering Gamabunta and the other toads.
  • The toads charged, but Uya quickly sent them flying without continuing his attack.
  • Fukasaku and Toad Shima hurried toward the fighting while arguing about the intruder and lunch.
  • Fukasaku and Toad Shima arrived and stopped arguing when they saw the toads sprawled on the ground.

Ch. 261The two sages' shock

Uya overwhelmed the toads on Mount Myōboku while absorbing natural energy, shocking Fukasaku and Toad Shima with his unusual Senjutsu. He told them he had come to cultivate there, and they realized he was transforming his body into a Sage Body.

  • Uya defeated the toads without seriously injuring them, and Fukasaku and Toad Shima arrived to assess the scene.
  • Fukasaku and Toad Shima sensed Uya's unfamiliar Sage Mode and attacked him with Sage Art Fire Style and Wind Release.
  • Uya extinguished their flames with the power of tremors while continuing to absorb natural energy at full speed.
  • Fukasaku and Toad Shima stopped fighting and asked Uya why he had come to Mount Myōboku.
  • Uya said he wanted to cultivate Senjutsu, and Fukasaku and Toad Shima recognized that he was using natural energy to cultivate a Sage Body.

Ch. 262The Great Toad Sage's Orders

Uya entered Mount Myōboku to cultivate his Sage Body by absorbing its abundant natural energy. The Great Toad Sage ordered the toads not to interfere, and Uya began training beside the oil pool after confirming that his power of tremors could suppress natural energy.

  • Uya told Fukasaku and Toad Shima that he needed Mount Myōboku’s natural energy to cultivate his Sage Body, leaving them unable to stop him.
  • A messenger relayed the Great Toad Sage’s order to let Uya do as he wished and allow him to come and go freely.
  • The Great Toad Sage said Uya’s arrival matched visions he had seen and decided Mount Myōboku should stay out of the coming wars.
  • Uya reached the oil pool deep within Mount Myōboku and found that the special oil drew natural energy toward his hand.
  • Uya used the power of tremors to collapse the natural-energy vortex, then sat beside the pool and began training.

Ch. 263Three months

Uya completed another stage of Sage Body training at Mount Myōboku and returned toward Konoha after more than three months away. Near the village, he sensed powerful tremors and realized a fierce battle was underway.

  • Madara Uchiha learned that Uya had been missing for over three months and decided it was time to begin.
  • Uya absorbed natural energy into all five gates, completed his training session, and discovered his healing and Shockwave Sensing had improved.
  • Uya left Mount Myōboku after learning that no one had disturbed him during his training.
  • Jiraiya was shocked to learn Uya had mastered perfect Sage Mode, while Minato Namikaze stayed away to study the Flying Thunder God Technique.
  • Uya approached Konoha and sensed violent tremors, prompting him to investigate the battle inside the village.

Ch. 264The Nine-Tails goes berserk

The Nine-Tails broke free of Kushina’s control and rampaged through Konoha, forcing Hiruzen Sarutobi and the village’s strongest fighters to face it. After they briefly drove it back, the Nine-Tails formed and hurled a Tailed Beast Bomb at them.

  • The Nine-Tails emerged from the broken Eight Trigrams Seal, and Mirei Uzumaki watched from beside Minato Namikaze as Konoha suffered heavy destruction.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi faced the Nine-Tails with the Adamantine Staff, but its claw smashed him into a fissure before Hatake Sakumo cut the claw off and Hiruzen recovered.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi and Hatake Sakumo joined Danzo, Orochimaru, Jiraiya, Tsunade, and other Konoha fighters in attacking the Nine-Tails and briefly forcing it back.
  • The Nine-Tails roared and gathered chakra into a Tailed Beast Bomb as Hiruzen Sarutobi and the others realized they could not let it strike Konoha.
  • The Nine-Tails hurled the Tailed Beast Bomb toward Hiruzen Sarutobi and the assembled fighters, who moved together to stop it.

Ch. 265The terrifying Tailed Beast Bomb!

As the Nine-Tails prepared to destroy Konoha with a colossal Tailed Beast Bomb, Minato Namikaze offered to teleport it away despite the danger. Uya appeared in front of the bomb just as Minato charged toward it.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi, Hatake Sakumo, Danzo, and Orochimaru combined their strongest attacks to stop the Nine-Tails' first Tailed Beast Bomb.
  • The Nine-Tails formed a second bomb more than ten times larger, leaving the Konoha ninja convinced they could not stop it.
  • Minato Namikaze revealed that he had just learned Flying Thunder God and volunteered to teleport the bomb away, though Hiruzen Sarutobi and Jiraiya warned him of the risks.
  • As the giant bomb hurtled toward Konoha, Minato Namikaze charged forward, but Uya suddenly appeared in front of everyone.

Ch. 266Subduing the Nine-Tails

Uya arrived as the Nine-Tails attacked Konoha and effortlessly destroyed its Tailed Beast Bombs before pinning the beast to the ground. With the Nine-Tails subdued, Uya demanded that Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzo explain what had happened.

  • Uya appeared on the battlefield as the Nine-Tails launched a massive Tailed Beast Bomb toward Konoha.
  • Uya crushed the Tailed Beast Bomb inside a sphere of tremor power without letting its force spread.
  • Uya demanded an explanation from Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzo, but the Nine-Tails attacked again before anyone answered.
  • Uya broke apart the Nine-Tails' forming Tailed Beast Bomb and pinned the beast to the ground with his foot.
  • The Konoha ninja watched in shock as Uya subdued the Nine-Tails in two moves.

Ch. 267Eight Trigrams Seal

Uya suppressed the rampaging Nine-Tails and questioned Hiruzen Sarutobi and Tsunade about what had caused the outbreak. Suspecting Madara Uchiha was responsible, Uya began forcing the Nine-Tails’ chakra back toward Kushina.

  • Uya demanded an explanation for the Nine-Tails’ rampage, and Hiruzen Sarutobi and Tsunade said they did not know what had caused it.
  • Uya trusted Tsunade’s account and reasoned that Madara Uchiha could have broken the Eight Trigrams Seal and controlled the Nine-Tails.
  • The Nine-Tails attacked Uya with all nine tails, and Uya cut them apart with the Kusanagi Sword.
  • Uya used the Power of Tremors to suppress the Nine-Tails until his body collapsed into a writhing cloud of blood-red chakra.

Ch. 268Disposition

Uya suppressed the Nine-Tails inside Kushina and helped Mirei Uzumaki restore her seal, then confronted Konoha’s leaders when they discussed confining Kushina. The chapter left the room cowed by Uya as he demanded to know who wanted to imprison her.

  • Uya suppressed the Nine-Tails chakra and carried the unconscious Kushina, whose Eight Trigrams Seal had been destroyed.
  • Mirei Uzumaki performed a new Eight Trigrams Seal, stopping the Nine-Tails chakra from leaking out of Kushina.
  • Uya resolved to oppose Madara Uchiha, who told White Zetsu that the Nine-Tails’ rampage had been a trigger intended to make someone despair of the world.
  • At a Konoha High Command meeting, Danzo demanded custody of Kushina, while a jonin proposed confining her in a special barrier.
  • Uya entered the meeting and, with his aura, silenced the leaders before asking who wanted to confine Kushina.

Ch. 269Disappointment

After Konoha’s leaders abandoned plans to confine Kushina, Uya told her that Madara Uchiha had caused the Nine-Tails’ rampage, easing her guilt. The villagers continued to hate her, and the chapter ended with Uya asking Kushina to leave Konoha with him.

  • Uya left the meeting after making clear that he would not allow anyone to scheme against Kushina, and the Jonin changed their stance on confining her.
  • Uya comforted the guilt-ridden Kushina and told her that Madara Uchiha had tampered with the Eight Trigrams Seal and manipulated events to attack Konoha.
  • Kushina began working to control the Nine-Tails’ chakra, but villagers continued to regard her with hatred despite Uya’s protection.
  • After hearing that villagers considered her an evil Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, Kushina asked Uya whether she should exist.
  • Uya held Kushina and told her that her existence was his meaning, then asked her to leave Konoha with him.

Ch. 270Leaving Konoha

Uya took Kushina away from Konoha after she agreed to leave, and Hiruzen Sarutobi suppressed news of their departure while fearing it could destabilize the Shinobi World. In the Land of Fire, Uya realized Madara Uchiha had intended to turn him against Konoha and vowed to kill him, then told Kushina he would help her control the Nine-Tails.

  • Uya told Kushina they would leave Konoha, and she agreed before he took her away without informing anyone.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi ordered the news suppressed and secretly sent troops to search for Uya, while Tsunade supported his decision and Danzo left the village.
  • In a forest in the Land of Fire, Kushina became happier away from Konoha, and Uya concluded Madara Uchiha had engineered the Nine-Tails' rampage to alienate him from the village.
  • Uya vowed he would never side with Madara Uchiha and that one of them would die for what Madara had done to Kushina.
  • When Kushina asked where they would go next, Uya said they would stay for now and he would help her control the Nine-Tails.

Ch. 271The Nine-Tails in His Cage

Uya told Kushina that the best way to control the Nine-Tails’ chakra was to win over the Nine-Tails, and offered to help her. Kushina entered her inner world and confronted the Nine-Tails at his cage, no longer afraid of him.

  • Uya explained that Kushina’s chakra control and Uzumaki constitution were already strong enough, so she only needed to win over the Nine-Tails.
  • Uya reassured Kushina that he could help her and that she had no reason to fear the Nine-Tails while he was with her.
  • Kushina trusted Uya and undid the Eight Trigrams Seal to enter the space inside her body.
  • The Nine-Tails brooded over Madara Uchiha’s apparent Six Paths Power and worried that it was beyond his ability to resist.
  • The Nine-Tails threatened Kushina and told her to leave, but Kushina joked that he must be bored alone in his cage.

Ch. 272Uya and the Nine-Tails

Kushina tore away the Nine-Tails’ sealing talisman, freeing him, but Uya appeared in the inner space and stopped the fox from attacking her. The Nine-Tails turned his aggression toward Uya, who faced him down as the confrontation continued.

  • Kushina taunted the Nine-Tails and tore the sealing talisman from his cage, freeing him.
  • The Nine-Tails threatened to eat Kushina and reached for her with a claw.
  • Uya suddenly appeared before Kushina and knocked the Nine-Tails’ claw away with a flick of his finger.
  • Uya asked the Nine-Tails how it felt to be controlled by Madara Uchiha, and the fox demanded to know what Uya knew.
  • The Nine-Tails angrily slammed a claw down at Uya.

Ch. 273The Nine-Tails' Horror

Uya fought the Nine-Tails inside Kushina’s mindscape, overpowering him with his strength and Quake Release. After Uya revealed that he knew about Indra and Asura, the weakened Nine-Tails demanded to know what else he knew.

  • The Nine-Tails attacked Uya with a full-force claw strike, but Uya punched it back and sent him staggering.
  • The Nine-Tails formed and fired a giant Tailed Beast Bomb, which Uya stopped by distorting space with a punch from his golden gauntlet.
  • Uya’s attack scattered the Nine-Tails’ chakra, and the beast reformed much weaker and horrified by Uya’s power.
  • The Nine-Tails questioned how Uya could possess such strength without Six Paths power, and Uya identified Indra and Asura’s chakra.
  • The Nine-Tails grew wary of Uya and demanded to know what else he knew.

Ch. 274Kushina's strength

Uya persuaded Kurama to choose freely whether to help Kushina, and Kurama accepted her as his Jinchūriki and companion. Kushina trained in Nine-Tails Chakra Mode and Complete Nine-Tails Transformation with Uya, but he remained far stronger than her.

  • Uya told Kurama that Madara Uchiha planned to use him to revive Ten-Tails, then let Kurama decide whether to help Kushina.
  • Kurama asked to speak privately with Kushina, and afterward accepted her as his Jinchūriki.
  • Kushina and Kurama began training together, with Uya helping Kushina master Nine-Tails Chakra Mode.
  • Uya trained Kushina's speed and sensory abilities in the mountain forest while Kurama watched and protested at Uya's teasing.
  • Kushina used Complete Nine-Tails Transformation to fight Uya, but he easily suppressed her, and Kurama conceded how powerful Uya was.

Ch. 275Shockwave Fist

Uya developed Shockwave Fist while sparring with Kushina, whose mastery of the Nine-Tails and use of the Kusanagi Sword had made her powerful enough to challenge him. After Uya overcame her defenses, he suggested they travel to the Land of Rain to visit the disciples he had taken in during the Second Shinobi World War.

  • Uya asked the Nine-Tails to compare his strength with Hashirama Senju's techniques and Madara Uchiha's Complete Body Susanoo, and the Nine-Tails said Uya still had room to grow.
  • Kushina used the Kusanagi Sword with Nine-Tails Chakra Mode and her full Nine-Tails transformation to nearly match the power of Complete Body Susanoo.
  • Uya trained with Kushina for over a month, concentrating his power of tremors until it changed into Shockwave Fist.
  • Uya's Shockwave Fist stripped away the Nine-Tails' Kusanagi Sword armor, and Kushina admitted she could no longer defeat him.
  • Uya proposed traveling with Kushina to the Land of Rain to visit the two disciples he had taken in during the Second Shinobi World War.

Ch. 276Hanzō and the Akatsuki

After Uya and Kushina left Konoha, the other hidden villages began probing Konoha’s weakened defenses. In the Land of Rain, they overheard Rain Ninja say that Hanzō had routed the Akatsuki and was pursuing its leaders.

  • Spies confirmed that Uya and Kushina had left Konoha, prompting the other hidden villages to test Konoha’s borders.
  • Uya and Kushina arrived in the rainy Land of Rain and rested at a teahouse in a small town.
  • Uya used Shockwave Sensing to overhear three Rain Ninja discussing Hanzō’s conflict with the Akatsuki.
  • The Rain Ninja said the Akatsuki wanted to stop war but threatened Hanzō’s position by seeking influence through Amegakure.
  • One Rain Ninja received word that Hanzō had routed the Akatsuki and was pursuing its leaders.

Ch. 277A desperate situation

Uya abruptly left the teahouse after sensing trouble, and he and Kushina rushed toward an incident in the Land of Rain. There, Hanzo of the Salamander’s forces cornered the exhausted Yahiko and Konan, and Yahiko faced an apparently hopeless attack.

  • Uya set down his tea, left the teahouse, and told Kushina they might not arrive in time to help.
  • A house collapsed in the town, and Uya returned to Kushina before they headed out together.
  • Hanzo of the Salamander pursued Yahiko and Konan with Rain Ninja after destroying the Akatsuki and killing or scattering Yahiko’s followers.
  • The Rain Ninja surrounded Yahiko and Konan, and Yahiko asked Hanzo why he was determined to kill them.
  • Hanzo ordered his Rain Ninja to attack, while Yahiko, out of chakra and strength, realized his hopes for peace had been naive.

Ch. 278Arriving in Time

Uya arrived just in time to save Konan and Yahiko from the Rain Ninja’s attacks, with Kushina arriving beside him. After catching the exhausted Konan and entrusting her to Kushina, Uya prepared to deal with the Rain Ninja.

  • As the Rain Ninja’s attacks neared, Konan saw Uya’s shockwave stop them in midair and shatter them into powder.
  • Uya crossed the battlefield at incredible speed and appeared among the Rain Ninja, who recognized him as the Demigod of the Ninja World.
  • Kushina arrived, while Hanzo watched in surprise and Konan and Yahiko reacted with relief and astonishment.
  • Konan collapsed from exhaustion, and Uya caught her, confirmed she was not seriously injured, and handed her to Kushina.
  • Uya told Kushina to look after Konan while he handled the Rain Ninja, and Yahiko wondered about Kushina’s relationship with Uya.

Ch. 279Two Demigods

Uya confronted Hanzo of the Salamander after finding his students Yahiko and Konan beaten, and demanded that Hanzo give up control of the Land of Rain. Hanzo refused and agreed to face Uya’s single-move challenge, leaving the Rain Ninja watching as the two Demigods prepared to fight.

  • Uya arrived to find Yahiko and Konan under attack, and the Rain Ninja retreated to Hanzo of the Salamander.
  • Yahiko recognized Hanzo as the main threat and thought Uya and Kushina Uzumaki could suppress him.
  • Uya told Hanzo that Yahiko and Konan were his students and demanded that Hanzo hand over the Land of Rain.
  • Hanzo refused, and Uya challenged him to take one move from him to end the matter.
  • Hanzo ordered the Rain Ninja to retreat and stepped forward to face Uya, while Kushina wondered whether he could withstand Uya’s attack.

Ch. 280The might of that punch

Uya killed Hanzo of the Salamander and the Rain Ninja with one punch that pierced the canyon. Yahiko and Kushina watched in shock as Uya and Kushina assessed the scale of his power.

  • Uya calmly asked Hanzo of the Salamander if he was ready, then threw an apparently ordinary punch.
  • Uya's punch unleashed a shockwave that erased Hanzo of the Salamander's Earth Release, his body, the Rain Ninja, and part of the canyon.
  • Yahiko stood stunned by Uya's strength, while Kushina expressed surprise that he had used his full power.
  • Uya told Kushina that Hanzo of the Salamander's title had warranted his full strength.

Ch. 281The Six Paths of Pain

After Uya killed Hanzo of the Salamander and saved Yahiko and Konan, he sensed a powerful presence nearby. A stranger with the Rinnegan appeared, and Uya recognized him as one of Nagato’s Six Paths of Pain.

  • Kushina helped Konan recover with Nine-Tails' Chakra, and Yahiko told her that Uya had killed Hanzo of the Salamander with one strike.
  • Yahiko admitted that his plans had been naive, and Uya said an unexpected event might have saved him and Konan even if Uya had not arrived.
  • Kushina sensed powerful Chakra nearby, and Uya called for the hidden presence to come out.
  • A stranger covered in black rods appeared with the Rinnegan, shocking Yahiko and Konan and drawing a warning from Nine-Tails.
  • Uya recognized the stranger as one of Nagato’s Six Paths of Pain and sensed that the others were absent.

Ch. 282Let the World Feel Pain

Uya confronted Pain and identified him as one of Nagato’s Six Paths puppets, while Nagato explained that he planned to use the Tailed Beasts to create a weapon that would inflict overwhelming pain and force nations into temporary peace. The chapter ended with Pain recognizing Kushina as the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki and deciding her presence would save him a trip.

  • Pain appeared before Uya, Yahiko, Konan, and Kushina, claimed to be a god, and questioned Uya’s ability to detect him.
  • Uya identified Pain as one of Nagato’s Six Paths puppets and deduced that Nagato controlled him from a distant hiding place.
  • Nagato admitted he had watched Yahiko and the Akatsuki, then told Yahiko that his approach to ending war had failed.
  • Nagato described his plan to gather the Tailed Beasts and use a devastating weapon to make the world experience pain and temporarily suppress war.
  • Pain recognized Kushina as the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki and said her presence would save him an extra trip.
