Ch. 83The Land of Rain

Uya joined Squad Eight under the codename Ten'u and was sent with Guren Gekko, Sana Asama, and Ino Yamanaka on an urgent mission to the Land of Rain. After reassuring Kushina that he would return, he set out for the battlefield, where the Second Shinobi World War’s senior figures had gathered.

  • Guren Gekko introduced himself, Sana Asama, and Ino Yamanaka as Uya's Squad Eight teammates and explained their specialties.
  • Guren Gekko ordered the squad to leave immediately for the Land of Rain to gather intelligence on Iwagakure and Amegakure ninja and assassinate targets when possible.
  • Uya told Kushina he was leaving on a mission, kissed her forehead, and promised to return.
  • Uya reunited with Guren Gekko, Sana Asama, and Ino Yamanaka at the village entrance, and the squad hurried toward the Land of Rain.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi watched Uya's departure and reflected that Hatake Sakumo, Danzo, Orochimaru, Jiraiya, and Tsunade were also in the Land of Rain.

Ch. 84A shocking turn!

Uya and his squad spent nearly a month conducting reconnaissance and assassinations in the Land of Rain, with Guren Gekko, Ino Yamanaka, and Sana Asama shielding Uya from combat. As they headed back toward camp, a water-based ambush killed Guren Gekko, leaving the squad in shock.

  • Guren Gekko led Uya, Ino Yamanaka, and Sana Asama into the Land of Rain to conduct reconnaissance and assassinate enemy ninja.
  • For nearly a month, Guren Gekko, Ino Yamanaka, and Sana Asama kept Uya out of deadly fights while he contributed observations and helped clean up after battles.
  • After the squad killed a four-man Iwagakure unit, Guren Gekko praised the others and led them toward camp.
  • The rain suddenly intensified, and a Water Vortex Killing Formation swept Guren Gekko into a spinning current.
  • The water vanished, revealing Guren Gekko covered in bloody holes as he collapsed and died.

Ch. 85Uya made his move!

After Guren Gekko died in an Iwa ambush, Uya revealed his Quake Release and devastated the enemy force. The surviving Iwa ninja counterattacked with a massive water technique, leaving Uya, Ino Yamanaka, and Sana Asama facing an overwhelming wave.

  • Uya faced the four Iwagakure Jonin, and the battle erupted again.

Ch. 87Slaying another Jonin!

Uya overwhelmed four Jonin, killed one with a powerful slash, and faced the three remaining enemies as they prepared to keep him occupied. The Elite Jonin believed Uya’s chakra was running low, but Uya intended to eliminate them all.

  • Uya shattered an Iwagakure Jonin’s Earth Release Mountain Technique with his fists and pursued him with Quake Release: Jewel Shatter.
  • The Jonin survived Uya’s tremor attack with Earth Release defenses, then tried to grab Uya’s sword while encased in stone.
  • Uya used Shockwave Slash to cut through the Jonin and killed him, then scattered the falling blood with a punch.
  • The Elite Jonin told the two remaining Jonin to keep Uya occupied because he believed Uya had used up much of his chakra.
  • Uya resolved to wipe out every enemy rather than escape.

Ch. 88Overwhelming

Uya overwhelmed three Iwagakure Jonin with his tremor power and Air Shatter, forcing them into a desperate retreat. He continued advancing unharmed as their chakra ran low, leaving them convinced they could not resist him.

  • Uya advanced with repeated sword swings, forcing the three Jonin to defend together and retreat while they struggled to conserve chakra.
  • One Jonin coughed up blood as the accumulated tremors injured him, and the Elite Jonin realized Uya had been holding back while his own group neared exhaustion.

Ch. 89Intelligence

Uya annihilated the Iwagakure assassination unit that ambushed his group, leaving Ino Yamanaka and Sana Asama in awe of him. At Konoha’s command post, Hatake Sakumo learned of an infiltrating enemy unit and prepared to hunt it down himself despite Danzo’s objections.

  • Uya crushed the three remaining Iwagakure Jonin, completing the annihilation of their elite assassination unit.
  • Ino Yamanaka and Sana Asama watched in shock as Uya addressed the reality of war, then followed his orders to clear the battlefield and collect heads for sealing.

  • Hatake Sakumo consulted intelligence and sensory ninja to determine the unit’s approximate location and decided to deploy personally.
  • Danzo urged Hatake Sakumo not to go, but Hatake Sakumo insisted he would use another identity and gained Danzo’s reluctant agreement.

Ch. 90Facing Danzo

Hatake Sakumo investigated a battlefield where an unknown Konoha ninja had wiped out an Iwagakure assassination unit, while Danzo tried to take Uya and his teammates into custody at camp. Uya refused to obey without orders from the Hokage, and Danzo had Root ninja surround the trio.

  • Hatake Sakumo and his Anbu squads found the bodies of an Iwagakure assassination unit and evidence that someone had disposed of an Anbu body.
  • Hatake Sakumo suspected Orochimaru had killed the Iwagakure ninja, though the wounds reminded him of Uya.
  • Danzo learned that Guren Gekko had died and recognized Uya as a member of Squad Eight.
  • Danzo ordered Uya, Ino Yamanaka, and Sana Asama to go with him, but Uya said Danzo lacked authority to command them without the Hokage's orders.
  • Danzo accused Uya of defying orders and summoned Root ninja to surround him and his companions.

Ch. 91Sakumo's Shock

Hatake Sakumo returned to find Danzo questioning Uya and learned that Uya had killed the elite Iwagakure assassination team. After Uya attributed his strength to the Eight Gates Released Formation, Sakumo sent him to rest and planned to report the battle to the Hokage.

  • Hatake Sakumo entered with an Anbu squad, challenged Danzo's accusation against Uya, and Danzo left.
  • Ino Yamanaka revealed the heads of the elite Iwagakure assassins, and Sakumo demanded an account of what had happened.
  • Ino Yamanaka recounted how Uya defeated the enemy Chunin and killed all four Iwagakure Jonin after Guren Gekko died in a trap.
  • Uya explained that he had trained in the Eight Gates Released Formation, and Sakumo accepted this as the source of his strength.
  • Sakumo told Uya to rest and said he would report the incident to the Hokage, while the Anbu speculated about Uya's promotion and rewards.

Ch. 92The Kusanagi Sword and the Lightning Release Secret Technique

After Uya was transferred to Hiruzen Sarutobi’s secret Anbu force, he requested intelligence on the Kusanagi Sword and Kumogakure’s Lightning Body Tempering Secret Technique. He discovered that the Kusanagi Swords were missing and began training in the technique’s first stage to strengthen his body.

  • Uya requested and received Konoha’s intelligence on the Kusanagi Sword and Kumogakure’s Lightning Body Tempering Secret Technique.
  • Uya learned that Sunagakure ninja had stolen the Kusanagi Swords from a destroyed village, with one reportedly on the underground black market and the others missing.
  • Uya sensed an unexplained connection to the Kusanagi Sword, then set the intelligence scroll on fire.
  • Uya read that the Lightning Body Tempering Secret Technique scroll covered only its first stage and immediately began training in it.

Ch. 93Departure

Uya completed nearly half of the first stage of a secret Lightning Release body-tempering technique before Hiruzen Sarutobi sent him on an infiltration and assassination mission in the Land of Rain. After Uya left Konoha’s camp, Danzo ordered two Root ninja to capture him alive and bring him in.

  • Uya mastered a high level of lightning nature transformation and used the secret technique to greatly improve his toughness and speed, letting him build up five tremors at once.
  • After a month of training, Uya received Hiruzen Sarutobi’s order to infiltrate the Land of Rain, assassinate designated targets, and gather intelligence as a special Anbu member.
  • Uya left the camp disguised as an ordinary person from the Land of Rain and planned to look for information about the Kusanagi Sword held by Sunagakure ninja.
  • Danzo learned that Uya had left the camp and suspected Hiruzen Sarutobi had assigned him a secret mission.
  • Danzo sent Nara Shikachi and Kurama Yasō to capture Uya alive so he could bring him under his control and use him to infiltrate the special Anbu division.

Ch. 94The Kill

Uya rejected Danzo’s summons and defeated the Root ninja Nara Shikachi and Kurama Yasō when they tried to subdue him. After Uya left their bodies behind, Danzo arrived at the scene with several Root ninja.

  • Nara Shikachi and Kurama Yasō caught up with Uya and told him Danzo wanted to see him.
  • Uya refused, and Kurama Yasō used genjutsu on him, but Uya disrupted it with his tremor power.

  • Nara Shikachi used the Nara Clan’s shadow technique, but Uya shattered it with a tremor-powered punch.
  • Uya killed Nara Shikachi and Kurama Yasō, then left as Danzo arrived with several Root ninja.

Ch. 95A chance encounter

After learning from Nara Shikachi’s report that Uya had become overwhelmingly powerful, Danzo worried that he would soon be impossible to control. In the Land of Rain, Uya killed three informants and unexpectedly met Yahiko and Konan while helping Konan after she fell.

  • Danzo read Nara Shikachi’s analysis of Uya’s strength and was shocked by how powerful Uya had become.
  • Danzo concluded that Uya was growing too fast and wondered what Hiruzen Sarutobi intended to do about him.
  • Uya ambushed and killed three ninja exchanging intelligence in a town in the Land of Rain, then sealed his katana in a scroll.
  • Uya heard Yahiko call to Konan and recognized them as he encountered the pair fleeing after stealing bread.
  • When Konan tripped, Uya caught the bread and pulled her up before she fell into the mud.
  • The bread seller spotted Uya, Yahiko, and Konan and shouted for the crowd to catch all three thieves.

Ch. 96Secret Base

Uya escaped pursuers with Yahiko and Konan, then joined them as an orphan and was taken to their hideout. As Yahiko and Konan warned him about avoiding ninja, Uya revealed that he was one too.

  • Yahiko and Konan fled from townspeople who mistook Uya for their accomplice, and Konan pulled Uya along with them.
  • After they escaped, Uya said he was an orphan, and Yahiko invited him to join their group.
  • Uya accepted, and Yahiko led him and Konan to their cave hideout.
  • Yahiko explained how to gather supplies and warned Uya not to provoke ninja, while Konan described the danger they posed.
  • Uya told Yahiko and Konan that he was a ninja too.

Ch. 97The Sunagakure unit

  • Yahiko and Konan teased Uya about becoming a ninja, and Yahiko encouraged him to aim for Jonin.
  • A Sunagakure unit found a limestone cave and approached it to shelter from the rain.
  • Yahiko, Konan, and Uya met the unit at the cave entrance, where Yahiko offered their supplies and cave in exchange for being allowed to leave.
  • The Sunagakure captain ordered the unit to kill the three children so they could not reveal its position.
  • A Sunagakure ninja attacked with Fire Style: Flame Bullet, but Uya stepped in and destroyed the jutsu with a punch that split the ground and blasted apart the rain.

Ch. 98Killed with a single punch

Uya killed the Sunagakure ninja threatening him, Konan, and Yahiko with a single punch, then helped them move to a secluded cabin. After Yahiko and Konan asked him to teach them Ninjutsu, Uya agreed and began with the basics.

  • Uya unleashed the Power of Tremors and killed every Sunagakure ninja with a single punch.
  • Yahiko and Konan feared Uya might kill them to conceal his identity, but Uya told them to pack and leave.

  • Yahiko asked Uya to teach him and Konan Ninjutsu, and Uya agreed.
  • Uya began explaining the basics of Ninjutsu to Yahiko and Konan.

Ch. 99Senjin

Uya trained while teaching Konan and Yahiko in the Land of Rain, where the war intensified and Sunagakure sent Senjin to investigate the missing ninja. After another session of lightning training, Uya sensed something in the distance.

  • Uya continued training, teaching Konan and Yahiko, and sending intelligence and reports of his victories to Konoha as the war grew more intense.
  • Konan developed her Paper Release, impressing Uya with her chakra control by folding a sheet into a paper flower.
  • Uya checked Yahiko’s Water Release training, gave him guidance, then returned to his own training.
  • Sunagakure sent its lone-operating Anbu ninja Senjin to investigate the area after ninja and a squad went missing there.
  • Uya finished a round of lightning training, sensed something nearby, and turned to look into the distance.

Ch. 100The Kusanagi Sword!

Uya confronted Senjin, a Sunagakure Anbu sent to kill him, and discovered Senjin’s sword was the Kusanagi Sword. After overpowering Senjin’s techniques, Uya’s growing connection to the legendary blade stirred his killing intent.

  • Uya sensed Senjin approaching and met him in a clearing, where both recognized the other as an enemy.
  • Senjin summoned his sword and attacked with Dance of Cherry Blossom Killing, but Uya shattered the rain of blades with the Power of Tremors.

  • Senjin blocked Uya’s attack and retreated, while Uya recognized his weapon as the Kusanagi Sword.
  • Uya judged Senjin to be a Quasi-Kage-level threat and realized the Kusanagi Sword’s unique swordsmanship was intensifying his strange sense of the blade.

Ch. 101Air Shatter Continuous Flash!

Uya and Senjin clashed with their strongest sword attacks, but Uya survived Senjin’s strike and countered with a devastating Quake Release technique. Senjin fled underground to escape the layered Air Shatters, though Uya’s tremors followed him into the earth.

  • Senjin coated his Kusanagi Sword in chakra and charged Uya with Swordsmanship: Flash.
  • Uya met Senjin’s strike with an invisible ripple along his katana, surviving the clash while his blade cracked and chipped.
  • Uya snapped his damaged katana at the crack and warned Senjin that it was his turn to attack.
  • Uya used his enhanced speed to circle Senjin and launch five Air Shatters from different directions with Quake Release: Air Shatter Continuous Flash.
  • Senjin thrust his Kusanagi Sword into the ground and escaped underground, but Uya’s Power of Tremors exploded above him and surged into the earth.

Ch. 102Uya's identity

Uya defeated Senjin’s attempts to escape by shaking the earth, then took control of the Kusanagi Sword. Senjin recognized Uya as a surviving member of the Kusanagi Clan, and the chapter revealed Uya’s true name and the sword’s role in sensing Senjin nearby.

  • Uya used Air Shatter Continuous Flash to badly injure Senjin, who escaped underground with the Kusanagi Sword.
  • Uya unleashed Earth Shaking Technique, churning the earth and forcing Senjin to defend himself with Dance of Falling Leaves.
  • Senjin extended the Kusanagi Sword through the earth to attack Uya, but Uya avoided the thrust and sent the Power of Tremors along the blade.
  • Senjin released the sword after Uya’s tremors struck him, and Uya claimed the Kusanagi Sword as it fell into his hand.
  • Senjin tried to summon the sword but realized it no longer answered him, then accused Uya of being a surviving member of the Kusanagi Clan.
  • The chapter revealed that Uya was Kusanagi Yoru, and that the Kusanagi Sword had let him sense Senjin nearby.

Ch. 103Uya's Kusanagi Sword

  • Uya told Senjin that he was a member of the Kusanagi Clan and asked where the other Kusanagi Swords were.
  • Senjin charged at Konan and Yahiko to use them as leverage, but Uya killed him with a distant shockwave slash from the Kusanagi Sword.
  • Uya sealed the Kusanagi Sword in his palm and told Konan and Yahiko that they needed to leave the area.
  • Uya traveled with Konan and Yahiko through the Land of Rain, found a new place to settle, and continued guiding their training.
  • Uya studied the Kusanagi Sword and resolved to find the remaining swords, believing that gathering them would bring beneficial changes.

Ch. 104Urgent Intelligence

Uya mastered the first stage of the Lightning Release Body Tempering Secret Technique and continued training Konan and Yahiko while searching for Nagato. After receiving urgent intelligence that Tsunade’s squad was in danger, he set out to rescue her, leaving Konan and Yahiko instructions to hide in a nearby town.

  • Uya completed the first stage of the Lightning Release secret technique, strengthening his body and accelerating his progress toward opening the fourth gate.
  • Uya checked Konan and Yahiko’s training and found that both were nearing Genin-level chakra reserves, while Konan had developed her first Paper Release Ninjutsu.

  • Uya returned to his residence, told Konan and Yahiko to conceal themselves in a nearby town, and left to rescue Tsunade.

Ch. 105Rescue

Uya left Konan and Yahiko after promising he would return, while Tsunade and her wounded companions hid in a forest as Iwagakure forces closed in. Tsunade faced a choice between heading toward Amegakure and risking Rain Ninja, or fleeing toward the Iwagakure forces surrounding the other routes.

  • Uya told Yahiko not to reveal that he and the others were already ninja, then left after promising Konan he would return at least once.
  • Konan watched Uya leave, and Yahiko reassured her that Uya would come back once he had finished his business.
  • Gando ordered Iwagakure Ninja and Anbu to search the forest for Tsunade, while an Anbu operative warned that they might need to retreat before Konoha or its allies arrived.
  • Gando argued that Tsunade's strength and medical skills had let her evade the pursuit, and the Anbu operative rebuked him.
  • Tsunade rested with two wounded companions behind vines as Hyuga Ushin used his Byakugan to warn her that Iwagakure Ninja were approaching.
  • Tsunade noted that the route toward Amegakure risked running into Rain Ninja, while Iwagakure Ninja occupied nearly every other direction.

Ch. 106Finally arrived

Tsunade escaped the Stone Ninja pursuit after her teammates sacrificed themselves, but she was badly wounded and nearly out of chakra. Uya arrived alone to rescue her, and the chapter ended with the Stone Ninja closing in as Tsunade feared he could not save her by himself.

  • A Special Jōnin drew the Stone Ninja away so Tsunade and Hyuga Ushin could escape.
  • Uya raced toward the forest near Amegakure, determined to rescue Tsunade because she had protected and helped him in the past.
  • Hyuga Ushin sacrificed himself to help Tsunade break through, leaving her to flee from Gando and the remaining Stone Ninja.
  • Tsunade reached the edge of the forest but slowed from her wounds and exhaustion as the pursuers nearly caught her.
  • Uya appeared in Konoha Anbu gear, caught Tsunade as she weakened, and admitted that he had come alone.
  • Tsunade grew uneasy when she saw the Stone Ninja approaching and realized Uya had no one with him.

Ch. 107One slash

Uya stood between the exhausted Tsunade and the pursuing Iwagakure ninja, choosing to fight rather than flee. After one sword slash destroyed their attacks, he prepared to face the more than thirty enemies closing in.

  • Tsunade told Uya to leave her behind and return with the information, but Uya set her beneath a tree and turned to confront the Stone Ninja.
  • The Iwagakure ninja attacked Uya with Earth Release and Fire Release techniques, shuriken, and kunai.
  • Uya summoned the Kusanagi Sword and used Quake Release: Air Shatter to shatter the rocks and flames and twist the weapons aside with a single slash.
