Organization

Cultivation and Enforcement

- Law Enforcement Hall: Repeatedly deploys to contain clashes between visiting righteous cultivators and Devil Cultivators. Even with the sect’s strength, it only barely establishes a delicate balance 4.
- Devil Suppression Prison: A heavily guarded prison holding Devil Cultivators guilty of serious crimes. Yin Fan nevertheless infiltrates it undetected to interrogate and kill Meiji 2.

History
Heavenly Clear City Massacre
More than two hundred years before the later events, Cang Xiao and other righteous-path leaders stood by while the Northern Region’s Devil Venerable and his forces massacred Heavenly Clear City. Their actions were connected to a prophecy from the Heavenly Secrets Fate Disc. Yin Fan survived because his father hid him, but his Myriad Spirits Body allowed him to witness both the slaughter and the leaders’ indifference through the concealing formations 30 50.
Afterward, those same leaders presented themselves as his rescuers, and he became Cang Xiao’s disciple under the name Jing Fanyu. Cang Xiao knew a prophecy identifying him as the only person who might ascend in the next tens of thousands of years 28 30.
Great Inheritance Tomb Expedition
The Heavenly Sword Sect discovered an ancient inheritance tomb and spent years researching its protective array. Opening it required an array master and the simultaneous cooperation of human cultivators, Devil Cultivators, and Demon Cultivators at least at the Mahayana Stage. The sect therefore invited the major factions to gather without initially revealing the expedition’s purpose to their disciples 4.
During the arrivals, Meiji attacked Wu Fei in Sword-Seeking City. A Heavenly Sword Sect martial uncle intervened, and Jing Fanyu supplied Wu Fei with a Blood-Staunching Pill before escorting the Buddha Spirit Sect delegation to its accommodations 1 2.
Once the assembled experts opened the tomb, they discovered that only Golden Core and Nascent Soul cultivators could enter. The sect leader announced these restrictions and warned the participants to exercise caution 6.
- Cave abode exploration: Liu Yuexuan and Qi Gu discovered a cave abode and invited Jing Fanyu to investigate it with them. Wu Fei accompanied the group 12.
- Search for Jing Fanyu: Liu Yuexuan, Qi Gu, and other disciples later searched for him after he went missing. Wu Fei ultimately found and rescued him from ancient puppets 15.
- Inheritance obtained: Heavenly Sword Sect disciples witnessed Jing Fanyu emerge from an inheritance palace with transformed sword intent 21.
- Continued access: After the expedition, the factions agreed to retain their teleportation tokens and select Golden Core and Nascent Soul disciples for annual visits beginning the following year. Powerful cultivators were stationed outside to guard the entrance 21.
Exposure at the Heavenly Dao Assembly
At the Heavenly Dao Assembly, demonic qi erupted from Jing Fanyu, exposing him as Devil Venerable Yin Fan. His apparent early Spirit Transformation cultivation rose to mid-Mahayana, shocking the sect leader and disciples 28.
Yin Fan confronted Cang Xiao over Heavenly Clear City and revealed his knowledge of the ascension prophecy. Cang Xiao responded by declaring that he would cleanse the sect and kill his former disciple 28 29.
When Wu Fei defended Yin Fan, Cang Xiao threatened to kill him as well and attacked both men. Yin Fan’s Blazing Cold Sword defeated and damaged Cang Xiao’s lifebound spirit sword, causing him to cough up blood despite both combatants being at mid-Mahayana 29.
Pursuit in the Flame Spirit Realm
After Yin Fan carried Wu Fei into the Flame Spirit Realm, the Heavenly Sword Sect joined other sects in sealing off the exit. Cang Xiao also entered personally and led a persistent pursuit. Wu Fei eventually used an Illusion Pearl to trap the pursuers in visions of their deepest fears, buying several days of respite 30 31.
The sect’s rejection of Jing Fanyu extended to its disciples. During a later pursuit of Fu Hong, one disciple began addressing Yin Fan as “Senior Brother Jing,” only to be rebuked by another:
“The sect leader said he's devil spawn! The Heavenly Sword Sect no longer has a Senior Brother Jing!” 39
Despite their denunciations, the pursuing cultivators—including a Heavenly Sword Sect Mahayana elder—did not dare attack Yin Fan 39.
The Altar and the Obstruction Devil
Liu Yuexuan supplied the Seven Luminaries Sect disciples with information about Wu Fei and Yin Fan’s route, enabling them to prepare an ambush. She also discovered a mysterious altar in the Flame Spirit Realm that drew together righteous sect leaders and several Devil Venerables 37 40 41.
Cang Xiao supported activating the altar, citing a new Heavenly Secrets Fate Disc prophecy that portrayed Yin Fan as a future catastrophe. He claimed the altar would summon something capable of suppressing him. At his signal, Liu Yuexuan activated it with the essence blood of ninety-nine kinds of ferocious beasts 41.
The resulting incident involved the Obstruction Devil. Cang Xiao and other leaders became trapped in illusory bodies within a recreation of Heavenly Clear City’s massacre. Wu Fei and Yin Fan intervened to protect the city and defeat the attacking forces inside that illusion 42 43 46.
Afterward, Cang Xiao’s group tried to prevent Yin Fan from leaving with Wu Fei. Fu Hong threw a fake Heaven-Shaking Thunder, forcing them to retreat long enough for the three to escape on the Blazing Cold Sword 47.
