Lin Xiao belongs to the family that founded Shenglin City seven hundred years earlier. Its founding ancestor was an Awakened One who surpassed the Platinum Realm. Later generations benefited from the inherited Lin Clan Cultivation Technique but reached Gold Ninth Grade at most; none repeated the founder’s breakthrough to Platinum 2 7 39.

His wife, Yun’er, was killed by a Sin Beast when their only son, Lin An, was eight. The incident left Lin An deeply withdrawn. Lin Xiao sought numerous physicians and treatments without success, and he continued to treasure Yun’er’s portrait 1 2 7.

In the future remembered by Lin An, Shenglin City fell while Lin Xiao was still a Gold Realm cultivator. Lin Xiao self-destructed to resist the Sin Beasts. Lin An later suspects that Qian Hai had been entrusted with evacuating his predecessor while Lin Xiao bought time, but this escape arrangement is his inference rather than a confirmed account 17 21.

Personality

Lin Xiao is openly affectionate toward his son. After Physician Liu’s possession is exposed, his first concerns are whether Lin An is injured and whether his longstanding condition has improved. Although proud of Lin An’s talent, he values his survival more than exceptional achievements 2 37.

His protectiveness gradually makes room for Lin An’s independence. He initially refuses dangerous expeditions, then permits them once persuaded that excessive sheltering would hinder his son’s growth. Even after agreeing, he provides escorts, equipment, and emergency measures 16 27 42.

As a ruler, he combines confidence with calculated intimidation. He uses the investigation of the three great families to reinforce their submission and establish Lin An’s authority. Story Role / Major Arcs

Exposing the City’s Infiltrators

Lin Xiao invites Physician Liu to treat Lin An, unknowingly admitting a possessed man into his residence. Following Liu’s death, he accepts Lin An’s explanation that his newfound detection ability marks him as an Awakened One 1 2.

Father and son then uncover seventeen possessed personal guards. Despite his grief at losing men he personally selected, Lin Xiao authorizes their deaths to protect the city. He orders compensation equivalent to that provided for soldiers killed in battle and sends Ji Yuan to receive punishment under military law 3 4.

Their investigation continues through the Zhao, Zhang, and Wang families and all four military camps. Besides eliminating infiltrators, the operation secures the great families’ gratitude and renewed submission 6 7 9 11.

Training Lin An and Seeking Platinum

Lin Xiao supplies the inherited technique, pills, and unrestricted treasury access that support Lin An’s early cultivation. Their teacher–student roles soon reverse when his son’s superior technique mastery begins improving his own comprehension 7 12.

He permits Lin An’s first hunting expedition with Qian Hai and a hundred personal guards as protection. Later, after testing Lin An’s combat strength, he allows entry into the Spirit Realm with ten Bronze Ninth Grade guards and extensive safeguards 16 17 26 27.

Lin An returns with the Heaven and Earth Spirit Crystal, giving Lin Xiao a practical route toward perfecting the inherited technique. Their joint seclusion ends when the gathering Sin Beast horde requires the city lord’s attention 37 39 41.

Defense of Shenglin City

Lin Xiao leaves seclusion, orders surveillance of the gathering beasts, and reassures the city’s defenders. He eventually permits Lin An to engage the horde alone, remaining on the battlements ready to rescue him 41 42 43.

The Flame Hell Dragon Lizard and Thunder Griffin attempt to use Lin An to draw him out and test his strength. Lin Xiao captures the lizard and learns that their head chief sent them to determine whether he had reached Platinum. He then knocks it unconscious and delivers it to Lin An to finish off; the siege subsequently ends in Shenglin City’s victory 45 47.
