History
Tribal Origins and the War of the Totems
Ancient humanity lived in scattered tribes without cities. Each tribe supported a totem belonging to another race in exchange for protection. Li Yang describes this arrangement as servitude: a displeased totem could devour an entire tribe 297.
Humans began imitating the totems to obtain power, gradually creating their own cultivation path. As dependence weakened, the threatened totems fought humanity in the prolonged War of the Totems. Li Yang characterizes the conflict as having no winners, only casualties, although humans ultimately secured their independence 297.
Independent communities gathered across great distances and built cities to resist other races. Formations arose from observing heaven and earth, while alchemy and weapon forging developed as ways to accelerate cultivation and strengthen human fighters 297.
The Age of Chaos and the Sin Abyss Era
The Sin Abyss spread corruption throughout the myriad races, transforming affected beings into Sin Beasts. Humanity was also vulnerable, but showed greater resistance; Li Yang suggests its different cultivation methods may have been responsible. Humans used the upheaval to strengthen themselves and eventually became the principal force opposing sin 297.
Humanity helped reduce the corruption’s effects on other races and led a joint army against the Sin Abyss. The war lasted decades and inflicted devastating losses. Li Yang’s account reaches the appearance of a giant on the Sin Abyss’s side who slaughtered Immortal Realm experts with a wave of his hand 297.
The historical account Lin An later reads credits humanity with ending the age of chaos three thousand years earlier. The new Sin Abyss era also saw the founding of the Heavenly Revelation Empire, Heavenly Spirit Empire, and Heavenly Star Empire 75.
Lin An’s Rise and the Heavenly Pass Siege
Lin An’s Battle Ranking victories challenged the widespread view that humans were individually weak. His rise into the top twenty improved humanity’s reputation and morale; his eventual first-place finish made him the first human champion in the ranking’s history 402 406.
In the Sacred Realm, Lin An supplied Wu Tianshan and four fellow humans with Origin Fragments so they could cultivate rather than spend their time supporting his advancement. Their treatment provoked envy among other races’ prodigies, many of whom were gathering resources for a single representative 412.
After Lin An killed the Thousand-Eyed Evil Dragon’s offspring, the dragon organized a twelve–Sin Envoy assault on the Heavenly Pass. Humanity refused to surrender Lin An. Its formations, talismans, and treasures prevented the attackers from easily forcing their way through, despite their numerical advantage 423 425.
When the envoys offered a hundred years of peace in exchange for Lin An’s surrender, human fighters urged him to refuse. Subsequent reports credited him with killing all twelve envoys, slaughtering their forces, and driving back the War Calamity Sin Lord 425 429.
Rule Under Ancestor Lin An
On returning as an Eternal Realm expert, Lin An was formally welcomed as humanity’s ancestor and accepted its seat of honor. He revealed that he had slain the War Calamity Sin Lord to prove his Dao. The Council of Elders thereafter served under his authority 442.
Lin An redirected human resources into mass production of cultivation aids, including pills, weapons, talismans, and formations. The resulting growth extended beyond existing prodigies: cultivators who believed themselves permanently stalled at Sovereign Ninth Grade entered the Immortal Realm after taking his pills 443 444 447.
Despite holding supreme authority, Lin An normally left routine administration to Xiao Wanjun and the elders. During his absences, they distributed resources, developed the race, and reported its progress on his return 452 465.
Cooperation and the Renewed War
Lin An opened a planned human Dao sermon to the myriad races to strengthen their resistance to the Sin Abyss. More than ten million experts gathered in the Battle Realm. Humanity entered the Dao ground first, followed by other races bearing gifts; Eternal ancestors also attended 466 467.
The Heavenly Sword protected human territory when the War Calamity Sin Domain collapsed and released Sin Abyss power. Wu Tianshan and his companions then returned to the Sea of Origin to help resist its spread elsewhere 478.
When all thirty-four remaining Sin Domains prepared a coordinated assault, humanity joined the wider defensive mobilization. Xiao Wanjun confirmed that its Eternal patriarchs would handle Eternal Realm combat, while Lin An planned to seal the Sin Lords rather than kill them 481.
Organization and Territory
Council of Elders
- Composition: Thirty-six elders when introduced, each at Immortal Ninth Grade and recognized for substantial contributions to humanity 370.
- Responsibilities: Supporting prodigies, arranging rewards, gathering cultivation resources, and selecting promising humans for advancement 369 443 447.
- Authority after Lin An’s ascension: The council serves the Eternal ancestor, who becomes the race’s final decision-maker 442.
- Daily administration: Xiao Wanjun and the elders continue managing affairs during Lin An’s cultivation and travels 452 465.
Bases and Defenses
- Battle Realm base: A dedicated human hall that returning human entrants can teleport to directly 370.
- Heavenly Pass: Built along the boundary marked by the Heavenly Sword. Unlike other races, humanity can maintain a pass on Sin Domain territory because the domain cannot cross that line 448.
- Heavenly Sword Sacred Land: A cultivation location used by Wu Tianshan during humanity’s rapid development 447.
- Origin Islands: Thirty-six islands left by Lin Chang in a separate space, isolated so their destruction would not harm human territory. Lin An eventually consumes their Origin Power during cultivation 444 447 452.
Characteristics and Capabilities
Cultivation and Population
- Starting point: Humans must cultivate from scratch after birth. Prenatal treasures can improve their foundations, but cannot match the inherited starting advantages of pureblood dragons and other top races 452.
- Population advantage: Humanity numbers over one hundred billion and reproduces more readily than the top races discussed by Lin An 452.
- Early limitations: Before its later expansion, humanity’s general combat strength and supply of exceptional prodigies lag behind those of races such as the Demon Race 366.
- Resistance to sin: Humans are more resistant than many other races, but are not immune to corruption 297.
Awakened Ones
Awakened Ones are unique to humanity and are credited with helping it gain a foothold during the age of chaos and ultimately end that era 75.
- Documented example: Lin An’s Heart of Auxiliary Cultivation is explicitly identified as an Awakened One talent 149.
- Collective application: His talent-enhanced production supplies cultivation resources powerful enough to transform humanity’s overall strength 443 447.
Crafting and Auxiliary Cultivation
Humanity’s formations, pills, and forged weapons originated during its early struggle for independence and remain central to its military strength 297 425.
- Fortified warfare: Formations, talismans, and treasures allow the Heavenly Pass defenders to withstand far more numerous Sin Beasts 425.
- Mass cultivation support: Lin An’s pills help remove bottlenecks and rapidly expand the Immortal population 447.
- Puppet deployment: Major races receive ten thousand powerful puppets each from humanity. Their combined formations and Spirit Marks lead Dragon Race elders to judge them dangerous even to a Half-Step Eternal 432.
- Mutual support: Humanity supplies Lin An with resources and more than four hundred auxiliary cultivation inheritances; he returns the benefit through large-scale crafting 442 443.
Heavenly Sword
The Heavenly Sword protects humanity while also deterring threats to the wider Land of Rules 417 448.
- Against rival races: Its protection makes even top races reluctant to attack human territory 393 429.
- Against Sin Lords: A Sin Lord entering the Land of Rules from a Sin Domain risks immediate destruction by the sword 448.
- Against territorial erosion: Its boundary prevents the neighboring Sin Domain from overrunning human territory 448.
- After the War Calamity collapse: It annihilates approaching Sin Abyss power and preserves humanity’s territory 478.
