| Transparent World — confirmed use | 302 | Uses the ability to assess whether Tanjiro’s attacks are being performed optimally during instructional sparring. The acquisition chapter is not specified. |
| Modified Wind Breathing | 376 | Uses Wind Firmament Wandering Dragon to disarm Yoriichi Type Zero while holding back enough to avoid damaging it. |
| Three-task multitasking | 394 | Progresses from handling one task to three simultaneously. Training to manage four remains difficult. |
| Further swordsmanship refinement | 395 | Repeated sparring with Yoriichi Type Zero lets him compete using less strength and speed than before. |
Background / History
Transmigration and Kazeno Shoma’s Training
Teiichi transmigrated into his new world at nine. His parents were killed by demons, and a demon ate part of his body before Kazeno Shoma intervened. Shoma became his teacher and the person Teiichi regarded as his only family after arriving in the world 12 60 103.
Under the former Wind Hashira, Teiichi developed a demanding training routine centered on mountain climbing, full-body conditioning, heavy-sword practice, and Wind Breathing. His physical improvement far exceeded what he believed possible in his previous world 4 6.
His first demon encounter involved a white-haired demon with the Blood Control art. Although Teiichi killed it, he could not save the mother of the young girl who had called for help. He carried the girl back to see her mother and struggled with guilt despite knowing he had not caused the death 6 8 9 10 11.
Shoma’s Death and Final Selection
A Kasugai Crow reported that Shoma had died fighting Upper Rank Four. The loss forced Teiichi to confront the reality of the world rather than treat it as a familiar story. He resolved to become strong enough to kill Hantengu before the Swordsmith Village events and arranged for Kanon to study at the Butterfly Mansion because he could not teach her Wind Breathing 12.
During Final Selection, Teiichi allowed other candidates to fight for themselves, intervening when they were about to lose. He rescued several participants and killed the Hand Demon after observing Kanae Kocho’s struggle against it. The two exchanged names and left Mount Fujikasane on friendly terms 20 22 23.
Early Missions and Hashira Appointment
Teiichi’s early investigations exposed a weakness that raw strength could not solve: locating elusive demons. Repeated disappearances in Yamada Town left him exhausted and convinced that another swordsman might have saved more people 28 30 31.
In Aomori, he befriended Rena, employed her as a sightseeing guide, and sought medical help when her illness became severe. She later died, and Teiichi visited her grave. His confrontation with Wakuraba ended in the demon’s death, but left him with a broken arm and serious chest injuries requiring treatment at the Butterfly Mansion 40 41 51 52 55.
His injuries delayed his Hashira appointment. At his first gathering with the Hashira, he bowed to Kagaya Ubuyashiki but refused to kneel. Kagaya accepted that Teiichi had been influenced by another culture, while Kanae worried that his refusal would undermine unity 62 63 64 67.
Kanae, Travel, and Kokushibo
Teiichi intervened when Kanae faced Doma, taking over the fight while asking the injured Kanae to remain nearby rather than continue fighting. Their affection began to develop during the encounter. Afterward, Kanae made him a white and blue-green haori as thanks for saving her 87 92 98 105.
He later spent several years traveling, maintaining his bond with Kanae through letters and New Year reunions. During these journeys, he refined his technique through sparring with Tengen and eventually encountered Kokushibo 145 147 169.
Teiichi survived Kokushibo by holding out until dawn, not by defeating him. His Nichirin Blade was cut in half, and he suffered a massive wound from shoulder to abdomen. When Kanae discovered that he had concealed the injury, he promised not to hide such things from her again 183 199.
Training the Next Generation
Teiichi taught Muichiro Wind Breathing and emphasized maintaining Total Concentration: Constant throughout the day and during sleep. He planned to keep Muichiro close for continued training while requesting fewer, more challenging missions so that fieldwork would not consume his development years 211 216.
Although no longer formally a Corps member, Teiichi took responsibility for planning and supervising other swordsmen’s training. He also instructed Tanjiro through sparring, using the Transparent World to identify weaknesses in his execution of Hinokami Kagura 302 305.
Upper Ranks and the Final Campaign
Teiichi fought Kokushibo, Akaza, and Doma together while Hantengu, Gyokko, and Daki waited for openings. He judged that he could manage two principal opponents but would struggle against three. He eventually returned from Infinity Castle and reported killing Upper Rank Four and Upper Rank Five 269 287.
Working with Kagaya, he planned to expose Nezuko’s conquest of sunlight to Muzan while allowing time for research into a demon-to-human drug. He ultimately kept Doma alive long enough to witness Nezuko in sunlight and relay the information 369 473.
Before the final battle, Teiichi defeated the Hashira in a group exercise and began training them in stamina, speed, Breathing Style meditation, individual combat, and teamwork 492.
In the final battle, he repeatedly cut Muzan until the human-turning drug weakened him, then delivered the killing strike. He also beheaded Kokushibo and Akaza. The victory came with heavy losses, including Rengoku and sixty percent of the regular Corps members. At sunrise, Teiichi reunited with Kanae and realized that she had lost her hearing 514.
Appearance
- Build: Lean, strongly developed muscles with balanced proportions rather than exaggerated bulk; described as straight-backed and tall during his early training 6.
- Hair: Long enough to stream in the wind during combat 8.
- Apparent age: At fourteen, looked mature enough for Manager Yamamoto to mistake him for seventeen or eighteen 45.
- Clothing: Wears a Demon Slayer Corps uniform and later a white and blue-green haori sewn by Kanae 67 105.
- Major injury: Bears a large scar from shoulder to abdomen after fighting Kokushibo. Kanae proposes treating the wound to prevent a lasting scar; the treatment’s outcome is not established here 183.
Personality
Teiichi is disciplined and persistent, but does not regard talent as a reason to dismiss effort. Even while recognizing his unusual growth, he takes pride in his training rather than envying Muichiro’s rapid rise 4 34.
Equality is a firm personal principle. He refuses to kneel to Kagaya, returns the Butterfly Mansion girls’ bows, and helps with household work because he considers their shared home everyone’s responsibility. His objection to hierarchy does not prevent him from respecting others 63 64 182 299.
He feels responsibility for people he cannot save, sometimes to a punishing degree. His guilt over a murdered mother and the continuing deaths in Yamada Town persists even when he knows he did not directly cause the tragedies 10 11 31.
His compassion does not make him lenient toward human accomplices of demons. On Shoura Island, he admits killing a man involved in helping a demon and imprisoning women, then uses the village chief as bait despite White Feather’s objections 129.
Years of travel make him increasingly composed: he remains calm when Sanemi slaps away his offered handshake. Around Kanae and children, he is more openly playful, though his teasing can be mischievous enough to frighten a Swordsmith Village boy into raising an alarm 144 195 370.
Abilities & Skills
Wind Breathing
Teiichi learns Wind Breathing from Shoma and later adjusts its rhythm to suit his own body 14 34.
| Technique | Documented Application |
|---|---|
| First Form: Dust Whirlwind Cutter | Pressures Wakuraba into repeated retreats 51. |
| Second Form: Claws-Purifying Wind | Included in his early practice of Wind Breathing’s forms 14. |
| Second Form: Claws: Koto Wind | Releases three claw-shaped Wind Blades during sparring with Tengen 111. |
| Third Form: Clean Storm Wind Tree | Creates circling blades to block incoming water spikes underwater 130. |
| Sixth Form: Black Wind Mountain Mist | Blocks Kokushibo’s descending attack 172. |
| Seventh Form: Gale, Sudden Gusts | Drives a high-speed charge against the Blood Control demon and Wakuraba 8 9 50. |
| Eighth Form: Primary Gale Slash | Delivers a powerful descending slash; also cleaves open the water when he dives from Shoura Bridge 51 129. |
| Ninth Form: Idaten Typhoon | Included in his early practice sequence 14. |
| Wind Firmament Wandering Dragon | A modified form used to disarm Yoriichi Type Zero. Identified as a modified Second Form in one passage and a Third Form later 376 395. |
- Can maintain Wind Breathing continuously, although this is not equivalent to sustaining maximum combat output 14.
- Uses breathing to aid digestion and ease post-exercise fatigue 34 118.
- Seawater substantially weakens his techniques 130.
Wind Blades and Wind Field
His control develops from short-ranged sword qi into redirected projectiles, wide-area perception, and large-scale destruction 42 187 272 287.
- Ranged cutting: Launches Wind Blades beyond his sword’s physical reach 42.
- Trajectory control: Changes a blade’s direction after release rather than merely aiming it beforehand 187.
- Environmental monitoring: Uses Wind Field to observe Kuroishi Village from an inn’s rooftop 411.
- Combat awareness: Receives sensory information through the field while fighting multiple Upper Ranks 272.
- Area destruction: Fills Infinity Castle with wind blades, destroying buildings across its span of several kilometers in approximately ten seconds 287.
- Limit: His largest documented use consumes enormous stamina 287.
Physical Strength and Swordsmanship
Teiichi combines unusually high strength and speed with increasingly precise control 34 147 395.
- Uses a 55-kilogram training sword during childhood and later trains with a 400-jin sword 6 118.
- Defeats ordinary demons and some Blood Demon Art users without complex forms during Final Selection 17 20.
- Refines technical weaknesses through Tengen’s Musical Score and controlled sparring with Yoriichi Type Zero 147 395.
- Defeats the Hashira collectively in a training battle, identifying speed and poor coordination as major reasons for their loss 492.
- Has not awakened a Demon Slayer Mark when discussing his survival against Kokushibo with the Hashira 199.
Transparent World and Mental Control
The Transparent World allows Teiichi to evaluate the effectiveness of Tanjiro’s movements even without knowing precisely how every Sun Breathing technique should look 302.
- Uses it during instructional sparring to expose imperfect attacks 302.
- Can activate and deactivate it deliberately 381.
- Trains multitasking to maintain fine control despite interference; comfortably handles three tasks, but struggles with four 394.
Instruction and Investigation
- Teaching: Corrects breathing, supervises physical conditioning, and uses restrained sparring without inflicting serious injuries 211 319 492.
- Training design: Balances physical development with combat experience, particularly in Muichiro’s case 216.
- Investigation: Examines physical evidence, questions villagers indirectly, and combines deductions with Wind Field surveillance 28 411.
- Prior knowledge: Recognizes people and anticipated events from the original story, but consciously avoids assuming that enemies will behave exactly as he remembers 22 23 93 233.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Heavy Nichirin Blade — Forged by Tetsumoto Homura. Teiichi favors its weight because, provided he can swing it properly, heavier attacks are harder for demons to block. Later specified as 112 jin, or fifty-six kilograms 24 34 67.
- Replacement blade — Visits the Swordsmith Village for a new Nichirin Blade after Kokushibo cuts his previous weapon in half 183 378.
- Training swords — Progresses from a 55-kilogram heavy sword to a specially made 400-jin sword 6 118.
- Training weights — Initially wears five-kilogram wrist weights; later carries 170 jin distributed across his limbs and torso 6 34.
- Kanae’s haori — White and blue-green, sewn with room for him to grow and presented before a Hashira Meeting 105.
- Wooden swords — Used for controlled instruction and sparring 232 302 319.
Relationships
- Kazeno Shoma — Teacher, rescuer, and family figure. His death motivates Teiichi’s resolve to kill Hantengu 12 103.
- Kanae Kocho — Romantic partner. Their connection develops after Final Selection and her rescue from Doma; they later kiss, discuss marriage, and support one another through serious injuries 23 92 144 183 195 290.
- Kobayashi Kanon — Younger-sister figure who calls him “Big Brother Teiichi.” He arranges her training at the Butterfly Mansion and reassures her during his recovery 12 55 490.
- Shinobu Kocho — Kanae’s sister, sparring partner, and medical caretaker. Teiichi recognizes the concern beneath her sharp manner 55 116 210.

- Muichiro Tokito — Student whom Teiichi teaches Wind Breathing and keeps under close supervision to support his development 211 216.
- Tanjiro Kamado — Junior swordsman whom he advises and trains. Teiichi asks to be contacted if Tanjiro receives a train mission 233 302.
- Nezuko Kamado — Treats her affectionately and protects her despite her being a demon. Later uses proof of her sunlight immunity to send a message to Muzan 233 324 401 473.
- Kagaya Ubuyashiki — Strategic collaborator who accepts his different customs. They coordinate investigations and preparations for the final confrontation 64 369 502.
- Sanemi Shinazugawa — Initially hostile toward him; Teiichi responds calmly rather than escalating their first exchange 195.
- Obanai Iguro — Thanks Teiichi for saving his life during an earlier incident 195.

Trivia
- The author’s closing remarks place Teiichi near Hashira level during Yamada Town and fully at Hashira level during Aomori. Those arcs emphasize demons whose unusual abilities make locating them harder than defeating them directly 517.
- An abandoned version of the water-demon storyline would have involved a girl dying despite Teiichi’s efforts, prompting him to leave the Corps. This was discussed as an unused plan, not an event in the published storyline 517.
