History

Martial Soul Awakening and First Soul Ring

Xuan Zi attended Bei Bei and Mu Yueye’s awakening ceremony. When Mu En expressed disappointment that Bei Bei had inherited only a trace of his light bloodline, Xuan Zi suggested nurturing it with light-attribute Soul Beasts. He subsequently witnessed Mu Yueye awaken his twin sacred dragon Martial Souls and congratulated Mu En 1 2.

Following Mu En’s instructions, Xuan Zi captured a Dawn Sub-Dragon and brought it to Shrek Academy, allowing Mu Yueye to obtain his First Soul Ring without entering the forest himself 2 3 5.

Second Soul Ring Expedition

Mu En assigned Xuan Zi and Yan Shaozhe to secretly protect Mu Yueye and Zhang Lexuan during their expedition into the Star Dou Great Forest. Xuan Zi initially resisted intervening in their unsuccessful search, reasoning that the elders could only guide them toward a less suitable beast if necessary 5 6.

After a Wolf Bandit sentinel approached their camp, Xuan Zi defeated its tribe, whose leader was an 80,000-year-old Purple-Plumed Wolf Bandit. He spared a roughly 3,000-year-old offspring, knocked it unconscious, and threw it toward the campsite to test Mu Yueye’s combat readiness 6 7.

Mu Yueye killed the Wolf Bandit and deduced that the encounter had been staged. Xuan Zi then reprimanded Zhang Lexuan for inadequate campsite security and ordered her to perform knuckle push-ups until dawn. Mu Yueye countermanded the punishment, invoking Mu En’s designation of him as the team’s core. Xuan Zi relented after Yan Shaozhe intervened, and the two elders kept watch for the remaining night 8.

The next morning, Xuan Zi assessed Mu Yueye’s condition and estimated that he could absorb a Soul Ring up to 3,500 years old. He led the group deeper into the forest and subdued a Holy Radiance Unicorn when it attacked Mu Yueye. Despite his warnings that the beast exceeded five thousand years, Mu Yueye killed it and began absorbing its ring 9 10.

Xuan Zi refrained from interrupting the absorption because doing so would cause immediate failure and backlash. After Mu Yueye succeeded, he checked the unicorn’s corpse for a Soul Bone, escorted the group home with Yan Shaozhe, and reported the incident to Mu En 10.

Protecting Bei Bei

During Tang Ya’s admission to Shrek Academy, Mu Yueye entrusted Bei Bei’s safety to Xuan Zi. Initially concerned that he would have to handle unfamiliar enrollment procedures, Xuan Zi agreed once Yan Shaozhe clarified that he only needed to guard the children from the shadows. Bei Bei and Tang Ya completed the journey without incident 14 15.

Later Group Hunt

The Sea God Pavilion later selected Xuan Zi to lead a group Soul Hunting expedition. Mu Yueye recognized the planned operation as dangerous and pressed Yan Shaozhe to supply Xian Lin’er or Dean Qian as an additional protector. Yan Shaozhe defended Xuan Zi’s strength, emphasizing that the Level 98 elder could overwhelmingly defeat him despite their one-level difference 29.

Xuan Zi is irritable and accustomed to exercising authority. His attempt to punish Zhang Lexuan during an active expedition brings him into direct conflict with Mu Yueye. Nevertheless, he does not hold the confrontation against the boy; afterward, he praises Mu Yueye’s willingness to defend others and challenge powerful figures 8 9.

His fondness for food and wine is a recurring source of teasing. Yan Shaozhe calls him a professional at eating chicken, while Mu Yueye remains wary of his attentiveness as a protector. Despite these doubts, Xuan Zi acts immediately when the Holy Radiance Unicorn attacks and successfully escorts Bei Bei and Tang Ya 9 10 15 29.

He also readily acknowledges talent. After Mu Yueye exceeds his Soul Ring assessment, Xuan Zi predicts that few in Shrek’s younger generation will rival him, despite the boy’s habitual disrespect 10.
