Background / History

Mu En shared renown with Long Xiaoyao as one of the Black and White Twin Holy Dragons. Their Martial Souls were the Radiant Sacred Dragon and Dark Sacred Dragon, respectively 2.

His descendants originally intended for Mu Yueye to take his father's surname and grow up under Mu En's guidance, while Bei Bei would take his mother's surname and remain with their parents. After the couple died on a mission, responsibility for both boys fell to Mu En. He later described them as his only remaining descendants 1 10.

As Sea God Pavilion Master, Mu En directs Shrek Academy's affairs and presides over its senior elders. He also deliberately exposes Mu Yueye to administration, recognizing that fighting ability alone is insufficient to lead the pavilion 13.

Appearance

• Elderly and stooped: His back is bent, and he remarks that he cannot remain standing for long 1.

Personality

Mu En is affectionate toward his great-great-grandsons, particularly Mu Yueye, whose inheritance of his Martial Soul moves him to tears. He becomes similarly emotional when Mu Yueye rapidly accesses his Sea of Consciousness. His pride is accompanied by fear of losing his remaining family: after Mu Yueye absorbs a dangerously old Second Soul Ring, he sternly reminds him that only the two brothers remain 2 10 11.

His protectiveness does not exclude discipline. He requires Mu Yueye to endure bitter medicinal porridge, delays his Second Soul Ring to consolidate his cultivation, and arranges supervised combat rather than keeping him entirely sheltered. Although he values the Mu Clan's accumulated knowledge, he also encourages learning useful techniques from other traditions 3 5 12 16.

Mu En is politically pragmatic and capable of deception. He secretly participates in the test involving Yan Feng, then acknowledges Mu Yueye's calculated use of academy resources in the Iron Blood Sect affair. His initial hostility toward Bei Bei's relationship with Tang Ya softens when Mu Yueye offers a way to preserve control over the situation 23 28.

Awakening and Early Cultivation

Mu En attends the brothers' awakening and is overjoyed when Mu Yueye manifests both sacred dragon Martial Souls and Innate Full Soul Power. He immediately begins arranging specialized cultivation support, including medicinal porridge, the family cultivation method, and a live Dawn Sub-Dragon brought to Shrek for a safe First Soul Ring absorption 1 2 3.

Before the Second Soul Ring hunt, he imposes two additional months of consolidation. He sends Zhang Lexuan with Mu Yueye while Xuan Zi and Yan Shaozhe protect them secretly, taking on some Martial Soul Department work himself during their absence 5.

Personal Instruction and Soul Hunting

After reprimanding Mu Yueye for absorbing a five-thousand-year Second Soul Ring, Mu En begins teaching him spiritual cultivation and King's Landing. Over the following three years, he personally accompanies him to obtain a 9,900-year Starlight Dragon Third Soul Ring and a ten-thousand-year Dark Gold Terrorclaw Bear Fourth Soul Ring 10 11 12.

For the fourth hunt, he has academy personnel locate the bear beforehand but leaves the actual battle to Mu Yueye, remaining nearby as protection 12.

Tang Sect Affairs and Leadership Training

Mu En convenes Sea God Pavilion after receiving the Tang Sect's plea for help. He brings Mu Yueye into the meeting to learn how the elders conduct affairs, then supports his request to take responsibility for the case. Yan Shaozhe is instructed to intervene only if Mu Yueye's safety is threatened 12 13.

Following Tang Ya's admission, Mu En praises Mu Yueye's handling of the matter, entrusts him with the Yin Yang Dragon Crown and Purple Demon Eye, and directs him to begin inner-court studies. Inspection missions are initially deferred 15 16 17.

Soul Tools and the Concealed Test

Mu En and Xian Lin'er discuss finding a peer whose Soul Tool use could expose a weakness in Mu Yueye's outlook. They abandon the immediate idea when no suitable opponent appears available locally and defer a direct conversation 21.

Separately, Mu En participates in Long Xiaoyao's test using Yan Feng. He later admits that neither Zhang Lexuan nor Yan Shaozhe knew of the arrangement, explaining that he deliberately selected an Evil Soul Master with very little evil in him 23.

Bei Bei's Relationship and Inspection Duties

Mu En confronts Bei Bei over sacrificing academic advancement to remain with Tang Ya. Mu Yueye persuades him to accept the relationship while retaining leverage through the Tang Sect's properties. During their discussion, Mu En also makes clear that he recognizes Mu Yueye's manipulation of the Iron Blood Sect's destruction and subsequent Inspection Corps operation 27 28.

He later begins assigning Mu Yueye missions well below his combat ability, prioritizing safe exposure to the wider world over the difficulty of the assignments 29.
