Background / History
Seclusion and the Dugu Family’s Poison
Dugu Bo lived in seclusion in Sunset Forest, maintaining the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well as his private back garden. Despite his standing as a Titled Douluo, he suffered from poison generated by his own Martial Soul. His granddaughter was also poisoned, and he continually searched for medicine to treat them both. He feared that her eventual death would end the Dugu Family’s line 28 33.
The garden’s precious medicines helped him suppress his condition. However, according to Dai Fei’s assessment, Dugu Bo did not understand how to use its treasures fully: properly employed, they could have neutralized his poison and potentially helped him reach Super Douluo 28.
Destruction of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well
While scouting the valley, Dai Fei discovered that Dugu Bo normally left each evening and returned early the following morning. He exploited this routine to enter the garden, using the Geng Metal Sacred Art to conceal himself when Dugu Bo briefly returned 25.
Dai Fei subsequently absorbed the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings’ remains and remnant souls, removing the source of the well’s extraordinary properties. He harvested the valley’s Immortal Herbs and uprooted the Jade Phosphor Seven Absolutes Flower, weakening the surrounding poisonous fog before escaping 27 28.
Returning from an unsuccessful search for rare materials, Dugu Bo found his herbs gone and the spring drying up. He searched the forest in fury but could not detect Dai Fei through the latter’s concealment technique. With the valley reduced to ordinary land, he resolved to recover what functions he could and investigate the theft later 28 29.
His inspection beneath the dried spring produced no useful clues. He suspected Spirit Hall without evidence, while acknowledging that its overwhelming strength made confronting it dangerous even if he could prove its involvement 29.
Earth Dragon Sect Massacre
Dugu Bo later investigated the energy fluctuations from Dai Fei’s sixth Soul Ring absorption, but again passed without discovering him 31.
Still enraged, he encountered an Earth Dragon Sect hunting party that had killed a ten-thousand-year earth dragon for its young master, Long Aotian. Dugu Bo declared the forest his territory and claimed the beast as his own prey. Although the party apologized and invoked its connection to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, he killed Long Aotian, a Soul Saint, and four Soul Emperors 32 33.
He dissolved their bodies with poison, collected a ten-thousand-year Soul Bone from the earth dragon, and destroyed the remaining evidence. The discovery eased much of his anger 32.
Long Zhentian subsequently suspected Dugu Bo’s involvement. Recognizing that the Earth Dragon Sect could not confront a Titled Douluo, he postponed retaliation and committed himself to reaching level 90 33.
Appearance
Dugu Bo is an elderly man with a sinister expression and an intimidating presence 25.
- Clothing: Dark green robes 25 32.
- Eyes: Described as cold as a venomous snake’s 25 32.
- Bearing: Radiates a presence powerful enough to make nearby observers fearful 25 32.
Personality
Dugu Bo’s concern for his granddaughter drives his persistent search for medicine. The possibility of losing her and ending his family line causes him profound distress, while the destruction of his garden leaves him both furious and fearful about his ability to keep suppressing his poison 28 29.
His attack on the Earth Dragon Sect demonstrates his capacity for calculated cruelty: he knowingly targets unrelated hunters to vent his anger, then eliminates witnesses and evidence. The narration explicitly notes that he is not normally so overbearing or unreasonable; this incident follows his failure to find the person who ruined his garden 32.
Despite his rage, he recognizes practical limits. He abandons a fruitless search to concentrate on recovering his losses and remains wary of Spirit Hall’s superior power 29.
