Background and History
Despite its decline, the Azure Cloud Sect remains one of Tianshui Kingdom’s foremost powers. Its territory is smaller than that of the great sects, but its two Nascent Soul patriarchs give it considerable standing within the kingdom 3.
The sect is also Su Fuxi’s entry point into cultivation. She began as an ordinary outer disciple after arriving in this world on its trial stairway, eventually becoming a Golden Core elder. Having spent centuries there, she regards the sect as her home and is unwilling to watch it deteriorate 1 42.
Recruitment of Lin Sui
While carrying out a sect mission in Pingzhou, Su Fuxi destroyed a demonic entity that had overwhelmed two disciples. She then discovered the orphaned Lin Sui and brought him back as her personal disciple and successor 1 2 3.
Lin Sui’s aptitude test revealed a Heavenly Spirit Root with an ice-crystal phenomenon. Su Fuxi publicly identified him as the first-generation disciple of Chongming Pavilion, then registered him as a core disciple 12 13.
His talent influenced sect policy: Li Yuanqing declined to press Su Fuxi into a proposed Dao-companion arrangement partly because alienating her could create a rift between Lin Sui and the sect. The sect master also provided protective sword intent chiefly to safeguard Lin Sui 16.
Secret Realm Expedition
Su Fuxi joined Zha Wuren, Elder Sun, and two other Golden Core elders to investigate the secret realm’s central ruins. Elder Sun eventually withdrew after finding the restrictions beyond his ability and becoming wary of Zha Wuren 22 25.
Zha Wuren deliberately left Fang Yun trapped in an astral-wind restriction so that he and the sixth senior brother could pass safely. Su Fuxi later rescued her in exchange for all her resources. Fang Yun returned to the sect and reported Zha Wuren’s betrayal to Li Yuanqing 25 28 45.
During the expedition, Su Fuxi also protected Elder Sun from a Divine Sword Sect cultivator attempting to seize his Scarlet Serpent Gold. The opposing cultivator retreated when confronted by Su Fuxi, Lin Sui, and Elder Sun together 42 43.
Return and Reinvestment
After returning, Su Fuxi reported that Zha Wuren and the sixth junior brother had been engulfed by a destructive restriction. She handed over the teleportation treasure formerly carried by Zha Wuren and offered the sect a spirit vein to help nurture new talent 45 46.
Li Yuanqing accepted the vein and gave her three fourth-tier longevity pills in exchange. He installed it overnight; by the following day, the mountain’s spiritual energy was steadily increasing 46.
Organization and Membership
Hierarchy
- Sect master and Nascent Soul patriarchs: Li Yuanqing leads the sect and is one of its two Nascent Soul cultivators. The other patriarch was summoned away by the dynasty decades earlier 1 12.
- Golden Core elders: Eight are present at the story’s opening. Most cultivate in seclusion while the sect supplies their resources 3.
- Core and personal disciples: Core disciples receive privileged resources and instruction. Most elders accept only nominal disciples; Li Yuanqing has three talented personal disciples, apparently intended as potential successors 3 11.
- Outer sect: Houses more than ten thousand menial disciples, with settlements at the feet of the mountains 4.
- Administrative personnel: Stewards and deacons oversee affairs such as recruitment, herb cultivation, and daily arrangements 4 12 13.

Rules and Recruitment
Sect Rules
- Disciples may not fight one another without permission 6.
- Outer disciples may not enter the inner sect without permission 6.
- Access to Cloud-Capped Peak and the back mountains requires permission. Personal disciples may accompany their masters there 3 6.
- Unfamiliar routes are dangerous because lethal restrictions are distributed throughout the grounds. Su Fuxi demonstrates one by crushing a stone against its invisible barrier 3.
Admission and Disciple Privileges
- Recruitment assemblies assess spiritual roots and apertures. A candidate with three spiritual roots, three apertures, and low-grade aptitude is admitted to the outer sect 12.
- Testing crystals are supplied by the dynasty to its vassal states 12.
- Core-disciple identification consists of purple brocade robes and an identity token issued after registration 13.
- Core-disciple allowance is twenty spirit stones per month 16.
- Sword selection becomes available after aptitude testing and registration 8 13.
Cultivation and Resources
Azure Cloud Scripture
The Azure Cloud Scripture is the sect’s inherited internal cultivation method, practiced by its core disciples. It requires Foundation Establishment; Su Fuxi gained access after reaching that realm and entering the inner sect 11.
- The No Falsehood Sword’s spirit describes it as a thoroughly upright cultivation method 50.
- Access to even basic techniques is restricted: entry-level five-element arts such as the Fireball Technique are reserved for inner-sect core disciples 11.
Sword Pool
Disciples must select and extract a sword using their own spiritual power or spiritual sense 13.
- Sword intent becomes more turbulent deeper within the array, preventing many disciples from probing or retrieving distant blades 13.
- The central sword is not necessarily the best; successful selection depends on finding a suitable blade that the disciple can bring out 13.
- Anyone who has already taken a sword carries the pool’s aura and cannot approach again or assist another selector. Violating this restriction triggers a barrage of sword qi 13.
- Su Fuxi’s blue crystal sword originated in the pool; Lin Sui also obtains his black sword there 13 15 19.
Resource Distribution and Limitations
- Contribution system: Disciples must earn sufficient contribution points to exchange for sect resources 1.
- Paid techniques: Scripture copying and technique acquisition may require spirit stones or exchanged resources. Su Fuxi purchased a copy of the high-grade Foundation Establishment technique Nine Transformations Blood Refinement from the library 4 11.
- Cultivation rewards: Li Yuanqing gave Su Fuxi a third-tier Spirit-Concentrating Pill after her failed breakthrough and Lin Sui a second-tier pill upon reaching Foundation Establishment 1 15.
- Protective support: The sect master supplied Su Fuxi and Lin Sui with a strand of sword intent each before their journey 16.
- No alchemy inheritance: The sect lacks an alchemical tradition, leaving Su Fuxi reliant on outside purchases for Lin Sui’s body-refining pills 5.
