Background and History

Orphaning and discipleship

Lin Sui grew up in a small village and had never visited even the county town. Evil cultivators slaughtered his village and killed his parents. Su Fuxi found him grieving, noticed the extraordinary golden light of fortune above his head, and accepted him as her personal disciple. She released the villagers’ souls from the Soul-Refining Flag and helped him bury his parents before taking him to the Azure Cloud Sect 2 3 12.

Initially, Lin Sui regarded himself as Su Fuxi’s servant rather than a prospective disciple. At the sect, she formally introduced him to Li Yuanqing and settled him at Chongming Pavilion. His early education included literacy, sect rules, and basic cultivation; Su Fuxi taught him to write his own name, while Wang Yuan later provided regular academic lessons 2 3 6 9.

Unknown to Lin Sui, Su Fuxi intended to raise his exceptionally talented body into a vessel for possession. She selected painful body-tempering methods and inserted a Cauldron Mark into a cultivation technique to make eventually seizing his body easier 4 8 11.

Training and independent travel

Su Fuxi introduced Lin Sui to combat by throwing him into a wolf pack and ordering him to fight unless his life was in danger. He killed the wolf king, gathered his first Slaughter Qi, and began learning to harvest demonic beast materials. His training subsequently combined swordsmanship, beast hunting, medicinal baths, and basic spells 10 11 12.

After three years training with Su Fuxi in the Demonic Beast Mountain Range, he reached Foundation Establishment. He then spent six years training independently while she remained in seclusion, including a visit to a small secret realm 15 16 18.

During this period, a Golden Core elder coveted his sword and pursued him for three days. Su Fuxi rescued him, killed the elder, and used the pursuer’s soul to create a replacement soul banner. She also reprimanded Lin Sui for risking his life rather than damaging an umbrella she had given him 17.

Forgotten Land expedition

Lin Sui entered the Forgotten Land separately from Su Fuxi, intending to explore its outskirts. The No Falsehood Sword instead led him toward an ancient aura and a treasure guarded by a powerful demonic beast. Hoping the treasure’s origin power might help Su Fuxi form her Nascent Soul, he entered seclusion to attempt Core Formation before confronting its guardian 21 22 24.

After reaching Golden Core, he strengthened his soul banner through beast hunting. He then lured a peak third-tier One-Horned Flood Dragon Serpent out of its cavern and killed it using the God-Slaying Finger, his sword, and soul banner. Its lair yielded a five-colored Origin Crystal fragment and a vein of spirit crystals 26 27 29.

Su Fuxi’s poisoning

While suffering from the Crimson Immortal Gu, Su Fuxi disguised herself, sealed Lin Sui’s spiritual power and sight, and coerced him into dual cultivation as a treatment. He recognized her through her orchid fragrance and the fabric of her clothing but concealed that knowledge. The encounter strengthened his determination to become more than her junior disciple 33 34 35.

Su Fuxi left before he awoke. After searching unsuccessfully and recovering from the depletion caused by the treatment, Lin Sui followed rumors to Ink Spirit Hill, where she was preparing to fight the Red Robe Daoist 36.

Following their reunion, Lin Sui treated her separate cold poison with his Ice Art. He also repaired the No Falsehood Sword, subdued the Spirit-Corroding Insects, and later cultivated beneath a cold spring, reaching Mid Golden Core and fully awakening the sword spirit 38 39 42 44.

Return and Immortal Market City

After leaving the secret realm, Lin Sui returned with Su Fuxi to the Azure Cloud Sect. Li Yuanqing bestowed a teleportation treasure on him for protection. Su Fuxi instructed him to consolidate his cultivation and accumulate one hundred thousand strands of Slaughter Qi rather than advance further 45.

In Immortal Market City, Su Fuxi took him to the Lovesickness Pavilion to broaden his experience, but he rejected Ruolian’s advances. Later, the No Falsehood Sword’s spirit urged him to join the No Falsehood Dao and entered his sea of consciousness. A scream followed, leaving the intrusion’s outcome unresolved in the provided chapters 47 48 50.

Appearance

  • Childhood: Slightly chubby face, sun-darkened wheat-colored skin, regular features, handsome brows, and peach-blossom eyes 3 6.
  • Changes through cultivation: Marrow cleansing removes his rough hand calluses, while continued body tempering restores a finer complexion 9 11.
  • Growth: Reaches Su Fuxi’s shoulder during early training and stands nearly half a head taller than her by Foundation Establishment 14 15.
  • Young adulthood: Tall, broad, and long-legged, with striking features and clear peach-blossom eyes 17 19 42.
  • Sect attire: Receives purple brocade robes and an identity token upon registration as a core disciple 13.

Personality

Lin Sui initially lacks confidence and measures his worth through Su Fuxi’s approval. Praise from her matters more to him than others calling him a genius. Learning that his talent motivated her decision to accept him leaves him distressed and briefly unable to concentrate on cultivation 9 15 16.

He is hardworking and exceptionally tolerant of pain. After his first wolf battle exposes his lack of practical experience, he diverts time from meditation into swordsmanship and useful spells. He also endures years of agonizing blood-refinement baths, though he does not enjoy killing for its own sake 12 18 39.

His devotion to Su Fuxi develops into romantic longing, jealousy, and a desire to protect her. He notices minute details about her, tends to her exhaustion, and worries about other men seeking her as a Dao companion. This attachment also leads him to cross boundaries, including secretly kissing her while she sleeps 20 21 33 41 42 45.

By the later chapters, his outward obedience coexists with growing suspicion and defiance. He realizes that Su Fuxi may want something dangerous from him, yet imagines that becoming a wayward disciple could free him from the restrictions of their existing relationship 41 50.

Abilities and Skills

Exceptional Aptitude and Fortune

Lin Sui possesses extraordinary golden fortune, a Heavenly Ice Spirit Root, and unusually favorable meridians and spiritual apertures 2 7 13.

  • Learns and memorizes cultivation instructions rapidly, mastering the introductory first layer of the Remnant Star Sword Art within days 9.
  • Progresses quickly enough that Su Fuxi repeatedly urges or arranges for him to slow down and consolidate his cultivation 14 45 50.
  • Conceals part of his strength during aptitude testing at Su Fuxi’s instruction to avoid excessive outside attention 12.

God-Slaying Finger and Soul of Slaughter

The God-Slaying Finger creates a dark finger imprint that draws on surrounding spiritual qi, allowing powerful attacks for comparatively little personal spiritual expenditure 8 10.

  • Produces Slaughter Qi when used to kill; this qi can be refined into Slaughter Crystals 8 11.
  • Slaughter Crystals can strengthen souls, as demonstrated with his soul banner’s Golden Core commander 18.
  • Can form a Soul of Slaughter through accumulated Slaughter Qi and refinement with spiritual sense. Lin Sui has produced one puppet by his reunion with Su Fuxi 8 39.
  • Hidden danger: Su Fuxi embedded a Cauldron Mark in his technique. Its maturation requires at least one hundred thousand slaughter cyclones and would facilitate her possession of him 8 39.

Blood Refinement Body Tempering

Lin Sui practices the Nine Transformations of Blood Refinement through medicinal baths, beast blood, body-tempering pills, and guided cultivation 4 7 11 18.

  • Develops physical strength substantially beyond ordinary cultivators in his realm 18.
  • Uses his strengthened body to absorb tribulation lightning during major breakthroughs 15 26.
  • Requires increasingly potent ingredients, including demonic beast essence blood; the treatment is painful enough to render him unconscious during early training 11 14.

Swordsmanship

Su Fuxi teaches him the Remnant Star Sword Art, an incomplete but modified sword technique capable of developing sword intent at minor mastery 9.

  • Combines sword attacks with the God-Slaying Finger and soul-banner assaults against stronger beasts 27.
  • Completely refines his black sword in three days after reaching Foundation Establishment 15.
  • Studies the sword’s intent and repairs its damaged blade with refining materials 19 20 39.

Ice Art and Movement Techniques

His spiritual power naturally carries icy, yin attributes compatible with Slaughter Qi 13.

  • Ice Art: Draws cold poison from Su Fuxi’s body and absorbs it into his Golden Core. Extraction is gradual and severely painful for the patient 39 41 42.
  • Thousand-Li Earth Escape: Allows underground flight; he uses it while fleeing the Golden Core elder, but rocky terrain forces him back aboveground 11 17.
  • Water Escape Qi Transformation Spell: Allows him to descend eight hundred zhang beneath a cold spring 44.
  • Sword flight: Becomes available after Foundation Establishment, though the No Falsehood Sword’s resistance initially makes him use another magic sword for travel 15 20.

Soul Cultivation and Yin Nether Scripture

Lin Sui places particular emphasis on training his soul, following Su Fuxi’s example. His sea of consciousness appears as an inky black sea beneath a vast gray vortex 18.

  • His gray vortex develops an eerie chill during his Mid Golden Core breakthrough; its nature remains unexplained 44.
  • Learns the basics of the Yin Nether Mystery-Surging Scripture from the sword spirit 50.
  • The spirit describes that scripture as emperor-grade and suited to his constitution. Lin Sui postpones its second level because the resulting energy disturbance would wake Su Fuxi 50.

Equipment and Items

  • No Falsehood Sword — Ancient black longsword obtained from the sect’s sword pool with a Vajra warrior talisman’s assistance. Initially cracked and bound with talismans; later repaired with elemental roots and empowered with Cold Marrow Cold Fire and an Origin Crystal fragment, fully awakening its spirit 13 15 39 44.
  • Five-Thousand-Soul Banner — Developed from the replacement banner Su Fuxi made after his pursuit. Its completed ten Soul Marshals comprise one Golden Core human soul and nine third-tier beast souls; the perfected banner is stated to be capable of confronting a Nascent Soul 17 18 26.
  • Blue-green umbrella — Gift from Su Fuxi. His reluctance to damage it prevents him from using it defensively during the Golden Core elder’s pursuit 16 17.
  • Concealment restriction flag — Made by Su Fuxi with thirty-six concealment restrictions; used to hide his cultivation caves 18 24 44.
  • Li Yuanqing’s sword intent — Branded and stored in his sea of consciousness; described as comparable to a Nascent Soul magic treasure 18.
  • Sun and Moon Bells — Paired sensing bells purchased for him and Su Fuxi, able to sense one another across ten thousand li 18 19.
  • Spirit-Corroding Insects — Given to him after the Red Robe Daoist’s defeat. He subdues their king and erases the former owner’s soul imprint 38 39.
  • Teleportation treasure — Bestowed by Li Yuanqing after the Forgotten Land expedition; suitable for cultivators below Nascent Soul 45.
  • Storage bag — Early gift from Su Fuxi containing spirit stones and low-grade talisman papers 8.

Relationships

  • Su Fuxi — Master, rescuer, and romantic fixation. Her care conceals a plan to possess his body, while his gratitude develops into a desire for a relationship beyond discipleship. He recognizes her during the coerced dual-cultivation encounter but continues concealing that knowledge 2 4 15 33 34 41.
  • Parents — Killed in the attack on his village; Su Fuxi helps him bury them. The massacre continues to haunt his dreams after entering the sect 2 6.
  • Wang Xiaohu — Attendant who helps arrange his daily needs and introduces him to sect life 4 6 9.
  • Wang Yuan — Steward and academic instructor who also explains Su Fuxi’s eye condition and the Ancient Zhou Dynasty to him 9 12.
  • Li Yuanqing — Sect master who recognizes his potential and provides a Foundation Establishment gift, protective sword intent, and a teleportation treasure 15 16 18 45.
  • No Falsehood Sword’s spirit — Guides him toward treasures and teaches him the Yin Nether Scripture, but also pressures him to join the No Falsehood Dao. Its intrusion into his sea of consciousness introduces an unresolved danger 22 24 40 50.
  • Mu Qingqing — Shows interest in him at Purple Flower Valley Market; he fails to recognize her intentions and instead defends Su Fuxi during their discussion over the bells’ price 18.
  • Zha Wuren — Martial senior whose pursuit of Su Fuxi provokes Lin Sui’s jealousy and anxiety 20 42.
  • Ruolian — Lovesickness Pavilion cultivator whose advances he rejects, stating that he dislikes others getting close to him 50.
