Background / History
Early Life and Royal Service
Liadrin was born and raised on the front lines before returning to Quel'Thalas at sixteen. Despite her battlefield upbringing, the kingdom's beauty and the magical conveniences of Silvermoon City left her awestruck. Kael'sala introduced her to Kael'thas near the Western Sanctum and arranged for her to stay at Sunfury Spire 11.
Kael'sala chose her as Kael'thas's training companion because his powerful guards were unsuitable partners for his first practical battles. Liadrin could provide protection while allowing him to gain experience, with the guards remaining available for serious emergencies. Won over by Kael'thas's courtesy, she immediately pledged to protect him; his system recorded her loyalty rising to 80 11.
At Sunsail Anchorage, she shielded Kael'thas against murloc attacks and supported Xiao Ao while the phoenix drew enemies' attention. She alternated Arcane Torrent with Kael'thas to interrupt a murloc mage and received its wand afterward. During the subsequent underwater expedition, she protected Kael'thas from the murloc captain's Arcane attacks and independently moved in to silence it 12 13 14.
Their first period together ended when Kael'thas was prevented from traveling to the Ghostlands. Liadrin was tearful at their parting 15.
Reunion and the Amani Catacombs
Seven years later, Alleria secretly arranged for Liadrin to accompany Kael'thas again despite Kael'sala's restrictions. Liadrin found him gathering herbs, arriving rain-soaked and muddy but delivering a flawless formal salute. Kael'thas welcomed her and offered her bread 22.
During a Troll rogue's attack, Liadrin shielded both Kael'thas and herself and sent an enemy-encounter signal. Afterward, she searched the corpse and recovered a crude map. Her familiarity with battlefield remains contrasted with Kael'thas's reluctance to handle them 23 24.
When Kael'thas planned to investigate the Trolls' route alone, Liadrin refused to leave him, even spending the night outside his room to prevent him from slipping away. He consequently adopted a more cautious plan. Together, they watched the Amani Catacombs and used the sound of concealed pebbles rolling downhill to track otherwise invisible rogues 25 26.
They later ambushed Trolls throughout the night. Liadrin's timely shields blocked poisoned dagger strikes, and the shared combat experience brought her to level 20 27.
Front-Line Service and Kael'thas's Squad
Jealous of Liadrin's closeness to Kael'thas, Kael'sala ordered her transported to Alleria without being allowed to wake. He told Kael'thas that she had been summoned to treat wounded soldiers. Liadrin awoke on the battlefield without having said goodbye and remained suspicious of the explanation 28 29 37.
While treating patients, she met the injured Solarian. Their conversation became contentious when Solarian expressed dislike for an aspect of Liadrin's possible future, though the astromancer admitted she could sense only its general aura. Liadrin nevertheless resumed treating her 37.
Alleria later assigned Liadrin to Kael'thas's new team. She joined his fifteen-member patrol squad, helped establish its lakeside camp, and prepared food with the other Priests 39 40 41.
When an advanced-class Troll rogue forced the squad to flee, Liadrin resolved to leave an obvious trail so that he would pursue her instead of Kael'thas. Following Audilon Firewing's death, she sang the Lament of the Highborne with the other Priests during his funeral procession. She remained with Kael'thas and Solarian after the surviving teammates departed 46 50.
Appearance
- Face and eyes: Described as pretty, with large blue eyes 11 14.
- Build: Delicate; after the seven-year interval, she stands roughly half a head shorter than Kael'thas 22 27.
- Clothing: Initially wears a Priest's long skirt; at their reunion, she wears cloth clothing with trousers and carries her familiar wand 11 22.
- Expressive ears: Her ears droop slightly while she worries over her unexplained separation from Kael'thas 37.
Personality
Liadrin begins as shy, easily flustered, and inexperienced in court etiquette. At her introduction, she nearly trips over her own skirt while returning Kael'thas's bow. Seven years later, her manners have become precise enough that even a royal etiquette instructor could find no fault with her salute 11 22.
Her devotion is persistent and practical. She remembers Kael'thas asking about Psychic Scream seven years earlier, refuses to let him investigate danger alone, and is willing to make herself a pursuer's target to protect him. Kael'thas particularly values her spellcasting and awareness of danger 23 25 29 46.
Despite her initial timidity, Liadrin can challenge others directly. She counters Solarian's condescension by questioning why an alleged reader of fate failed to avoid injury. Solarian also becomes a source of insecurity: Liadrin resents the recognition she receives from Kael'thas and pushes herself not to fall behind her. The narration suggests that these feelings may extend beyond loyalty, without establishing a romantic relationship 37 39 44.

Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Apprentice's staff — Carried during her early training expeditions with Kael'thas 12.
- Murloc mage's wand — A green wand looted by Kael'thas and given to her to supplement the limited offensive options available to an early Priest. She still carries it seven years later 13 22 23.
- Hawkstrider — Rides one during the squad's escape from the advanced-class Troll rogue 46.
Relationships
- Kael'thas Sunstrider — Her prince, combat partner, and principal object of loyalty. He trusts her protection, but memories of her original-story betrayal prevent him from wholly putting aside his reservations 11 29 39.
- Kael'sala — Selects her to protect Kael'thas, then later forcibly separates them out of jealousy over their closeness 11 28.
- Alleria Windrunner — Secretly facilitates her reunion with Kael'thas and later assigns her to his squad 22 39.
- Solarian — Initially her patient, later her teammate and rival for Kael'thas's recognition. Their mutual friction does not prevent Liadrin from treating her injuries 37 39 44.
- Xiao Ao — Kael'thas's phoenix and a frequent recipient of her shields and healing during their early battles 13.
- Audilon Firewing — Fellow squad member whose death she mourns by singing with the Priests at his funeral 39 50.
Original-Story Counterpart
- Kael'thas recognizes her as the future Countess Liadrin, a Priest who becomes a Paladin and leads the Blood Knights in the history he remembers 11.
- That counterpart eventually betrays Kael'thas after the Undead invasion of Quel'Thalas. This is remembered history, not an event established for the novel's Liadrin in the supplied chapters 11 39.
- Kael'thas explicitly recognizes that this world differs from the game's story, although the memory still affects how readily he accepts her lifelong loyalty 39.
