History

Teaching Kael'thas

Mephistes introduced Audilon to Kael'thas when the prince sought instruction in close combat. Audilon's loyalty rose to 80 upon greeting him, and he gladly demonstrated basic sword movements: swinging, slashing, and blocking. He explained that further improvement required practice rather than elaborate techniques 34.

Audilon assured Kael'thas that his soldiers would never let an enemy touch him. Rather than persuading the prince to abandon swordsmanship, this promise strengthened Kael'thas's determination not to remain someone who could only hide behind others 34.

Forest patrol

Audilon accompanied Kael'thas to the Sanctum of the Sun. Seeing inadequately trained recruits among the troops, he recognized the scale of the Troll offensive and worried about casualties 38.

After Kael'thas was reassigned from Sylvanas's team, Audilon joined his new fifteen-member squad. He was its only Warrior and, alongside Solarian, one of just two intermediate professionals. The squad was ordered to search the mountains and forests south of An'owyn for Troll infiltrators 39 40.

Audilon hunted with Kael'thas and participated in the patrol's ambushes. During one engagement, his charge knocked a dagger from a Troll's hand. He then yielded the opponent to Kael'thas, guarded nearby, and watched with astonishment as the prince combined Fireball with his rune sword 41 43 44.

Pursuit by the advanced Rogue

Despite Solarian's warning to leave, Audilon supported remaining in the forest. When an advanced-class Troll Rogue appeared, he called the squad into a protective formation around Kael'thas. The enemy's strength far exceeded that of either Audilon or Solarian 45.

Kael'thas immobilized the Rogue with a scroll and ordered everyone to flee. Audilon initially moved to attack the restrained enemy, but stopped when the prince warned that damage could break the effect. After the party scattered, Audilon caught up with Kael'thas rather than leaving him alone 46.

During the pursuit, Audilon blocked several blade arcs, although their force left his sword hand numb and trembling. Kael'thas disabled the Rogue's leopard mount, then devised diversions using their hawkstriders, a riverbank, and a route through the trees. Audilon followed these plans and grew increasingly impressed by the prince's judgment 47 48.

Final stand

As rescuers approached, Audilon charged the Rogue and knocked him down, allowing Kael'thas to pass. A poisoned dagger opened a wound in Audilon's right arm; the flesh rapidly deteriorated, and the poison numbed his body 49.

Audilon severed his own right arm and caught up again. Using Last Stand and Charge, he intercepted the Rogue's final attack, blocked one dagger with his broadsword, and struck Xiao Bai aside to move Kael'thas out of danger. The second dagger pierced his chest before Sylvanas's arrow struck the Rogue 49.

With poison already in his organs, Audilon died in Kael'thas's arms. He asked whether he had fulfilled his promise and urged the grieving prince to “live like a sun.” As Solarian held his hand, he saw a vision of the future, understood his sacrifice as saving Quel'Thalas, and silently entrusted “our king” to her protection 49.

Funeral and legacy

Liadrin and the Priests sang the Lament of the Highborne while guards carried Audilon's coffin toward Fairbreeze Village. Kael'thas subsequently agreed to name his former squadmates' future force Firewing in Audilon's honor 50.

Solarian later explained that she had sensed only death in Audilon's future, though she had not known precisely what would happen or how soon. She had proposed splitting the party because remaining together would have meant everyone's death; Kael'thas's phoenix represented their slim chance of survival 50.

Personality

Audilon was an exceptionally stubborn royalist who treated protecting Kael'thas as a personal obligation. His devotion also extended to royal ceremony: he objected when Kael'thas accepted Solarian's lifelong service so readily and later supported seating the prince above the other squad members 39 41.

He was enthusiastic and excessively talkative. Within half an hour of leaving Windrunner Spire, he had repeated his promise of protection twelve times and offered twenty pieces of combat advice, exhausting Kael'thas's patience 38.

His patriotism could overwhelm his sense of timing. Moved by Kael'thas's leaf-flute performance, he interrupted the music with cries of “For Quel'Thalas!” The squad joined him, then beat him for disrupting the song 41.

Despite his confidence, Audilon judged himself harshly when Kael'thas had to rescue them from danger. He apologized for failing his protective duty and renewed his resolve to guard the prince 47.

Abilities & Skills

Swordsmanship

Audilon taught practical sword movements focused on speed and effectiveness 34.

  • Demonstrated basic swings, slashes, and blocks 34.
  • Disarmed a Troll Rogue through the force of his charging sword strike 44.
  • Parried an advanced Rogue's projected blade arcs, though the impacts strained his hand 47.

Charge

Audilon used Charge to close distance and strike enemies 44 49.

  • Knocked the pursuing advanced Rogue backward to create an escape opening 49.
  • Intercepted the Rogue again immediately before his daggers reached Kael'thas 49.

Last Stand

Audilon invoked Last Stand alongside Charge during his final interception. The passage does not specify its numerical effects or duration 49.

Equipment & Mount

  • Broadsword — Used for melee attacks and defensive parries, including blocking one dagger during his final stand 44 47 49.
  • Hawkstrider — His mount during the squad's escape; used as a decoy during Kael'thas's riverbank diversion 46 48.

Relationships

  • Kael'thas Sunstrider — Prince, pupil, and the person Audilon swore to protect. Kael'thas initially found his constant assurances tiresome, but wept while holding him as he died 34 38 49.
  • Solarian — Fellow protector of Kael'thas. Audilon challenged her claim to be the prince's most loyal servant; she acknowledged that his loyalty was no less than hers. He ultimately entrusted Kael'thas to her 39 49.
  • Sylvanas — Assigned Audilon to accompany Kael'thas because of his extreme royalist loyalty and suitability as a protector. His limited connection to her also helped avoid arousing Anasterian's suspicions 39.
  • Liadrin — Squadmate who joined the comic beating after he interrupted Kael'thas's music. She later mourned him and sang with the Priests at his funeral 41 50.
