Background / History

Expulsion and the Angel Attack

Veronica was originally the eldest young lady of a Baruch Clan household. Her father, Princep, lost a struggle for the patriarch’s position against his brother, Pehlivan. Her parents and her mother’s family died, while Veronica was expelled and stripped of the Baruch surname. She survived by working in Wushan Town’s shops and tavern kitchen, living in a rented cabin and eating leftovers. The Dragonblood Secret Manual she kept was a copy reconstructed from memory 19 20 27 146.

A woman claiming to act on the pope’s orders offered to take her to the Holy City and attempt a dangerous bloodline-activation method. Desperate for a chance to cultivate, Veronica accepted. The woman was an angel who killed Mikhail, attacked Jason, and tore off Veronica’s limbs before sealing the wounds. She intended Veronica to become a vessel for another angel 20.

Jason carried Veronica to Blue Lake Manor, where a healing scroll restored her limbs. With the Radiant Church expected to investigate, they fled into the Mountain Range of Magical Beasts 21 22.

Mist Valley and Life with Jason

In Mist Valley, Jason helped Veronica awaken her bloodline with Silver Dragon blood and Blue Heart Grass. Her new strength initially exceeded her fighting experience, so she trained against Jason and his dual-sword skeleton. Her cooking attracted Linda, a Moonshadow Flame Cat who eventually became her contracted companion 24 25 27.

Veronica and Jason buried Mikhail near the Blue Heart Grass. Although they recorded the bloodline-activation method on his grave, neither wanted to entrust it to the Baruch Clan under the Radiant Church’s surveillance. After five years of training, they left for the Rhine Empire, where Jason introduced Veronica as his girlfriend 27 28.

She was welcomed by Jason’s family and later cultivated with him in Bloodshadow Valley. After repeatedly declining marriage, she married him at twenty-nine in a grand but lightly attended ceremony at the imperial palace 30 33 37 38.

Conflict with the Radiant Church

Veronica deliberately visited Radiant Church territory because she had not forgotten the angel’s mutilation of her. She killed a ninth-level angel after recognizing its vessel as a member of her grandfather’s generation. The angel revealed her identity before dying, bringing the Peak Saint Steller after them 44.

Veronica and Linda held Steller off while Jason dealt with his other attacks. Steller severed her right arm, but Jason killed him before he could capture her. Veronica reattached the arm and explained that she had held back to test her strength 44.

Her travels also brought her into conflict with Yanos of the War God Sect. She fought him until her Battle-qi ran out; Jason intervened when Yanos threatened to continue against her. Later, during the barbarian campaign, she killed Bulake, helped Ivan kill a Silver Behemoth, and assisted with treating the wounded 55 59.

Motherhood and Reconciliation

Veronica initially refused to have children because of her childhood experiences. After nearly six hundred years, she gave birth to Monica. The family settled in Cangbai City, where Veronica taught at a warrior academy while concealing her actual strength 44 47 98.

She and Jason emphasized discipline rather than reliance on Monica’s Dragonblood Warrior inheritance. They also used the family’s genuine history of persecution to motivate her cultivation while concealing how powerful Jason had become. Veronica later proposed the deception that encouraged Monica to travel independently, though she continued finding excuses to visit her daughter 98 106 125 150.

Teaching Wharton gradually softened Veronica’s resentment toward the Baruch Clan. On returning to its ancestral hall, she learned that the uncle’s household responsible for her expulsion had long since been killed and that Hogg belonged to a different branch. She agreed to help Hogg awaken his bloodline, while still insisting that she herself was no longer a Baruch 145 146.

The Necropolis and Higher Planes

Despite Jason’s objections, Veronica chose to enter the Necropolis of the Gods with Linley and the other Saints. Her long cultivation bottleneck remained a source of frustration; Jason later declined to give her a Divine Spark, hoping she would achieve an independent breakthrough 164 175.

She departed for the Infernal Realm with Linda, Monica, and the Rhine Clan’s companions. By the journey through Heaven-Cleaving Gorge, she had become a fire-element Lowgod. The achievements of her husband and daughter, together with exposure to the Infernal Realm’s experts, had pushed her to prioritize reaching Deity level over attempting an early fusion of her mysteries 185 213.

Veronica later left the Skyrite Mountains with Jason, Monica, and Olivier, informing Jason that their daughter and Olivier had grown close. In Moonwheel City, she accepted Jason’s relationship with Delisha but asked for time to adjust, having suspected it long before their discussion 223 242.

Appearance

  • Human form: Red hair and a tall, toned, muscular build. Her noble upbringing remains apparent in her etiquette, while her hands bear the calluses of a warrior 19 30.
  • Early clothing: After her expulsion, wears coarse hemp clothes rather than the finery of her former household 20.
  • Dragonblood Warrior form: Silver scales, silvery glowing pupils, two silver-white horns, and wings. Her transformed appearance is described as dignified and graceful 24 25.

Personality

Veronica’s expulsion and exploitation leave her fearful, distrustful, and sensitive to being treated as a tool. Even after Jason rescues her, she asks whether he also intends to use her as a vessel. Her early willingness to be abandoned if she is “of no use” reflects how little security she feels 20 21 23 24.

She is proud and stubborn, repeatedly rejecting the Baruch surname and refusing Jason’s marriage proposals for years. She nevertheless retains affection for her clan’s descendants, eventually helping Wharton and Hogg despite continuing to deny membership in the family 37 145 146. Jason also recognizes that her pride may make it difficult for her to ask for help with cultivation 175.

With those she trusts, Veronica is affectionate, teasing, and protective. She comforts Clear Spring, openly worries about Jason’s safety, and struggles to stop checking on Monica after encouraging her independence. Her desire to give her daughter firm cultivation habits coexists with considerable maternal attachment 47 50 106 125 150.
