Appearance
- Hair and beard: Long black hair worn loose, with a black beard extending over his chest 73 164.
- Eyes: Small, bright, and lively, repeatedly compared to shining stars 54 164.
- Clothing: Black robes 73 164.
- Expression and voice: Usually wears a faint smile that gives him a friendly air; speaks in a raspy voice 54 164.
Personality
Beirut’s friendly manner conceals his strength and a willingness to let others underestimate him. Luo Feng regards this as one of his most dangerous traits, recalling the disastrous encounters of experts who challenged him without understanding his true capabilities 52 164.
He is affectionate toward his family and invests heavily in their advancement. He embraces Bebe openly when they reunite, provides his sons with exceptional cultivation resources, and later bargains for Luo Feng’s guidance on their behalf. He had also hoped to make his sons Sovereigns, but the remaining Sovereign Sparks did not match their cultivated Laws 39 164 168 201.
Beirut accepts both defeat and the limits of his own comprehension without bitterness. After conceding his duel with Luo Feng, he describes the final step to Paragon as exceptionally difficult and chooses to let it happen naturally. Although shocked when Luo Feng rejects a Sovereign Spark, he respects the decision rather than forcing the opportunity upon him 165 202.
Abilities & Skills
God-Eater
- Innate divine ability: Allows a God-Eater Rat to devour gods and refine Divine Sparks 39 205.
- Effective targets: Threatens almost all Highgods, but Paragon Highgods and those possessing soul-protecting Sovereign Artifacts are exceptions 39.
- Upper limit: Beirut explicitly states that the ability works only on gods, making it of little direct combat use to someone already fighting at Sovereign strength 205.
- Transfer through essence blood: Beirut’s blood and explanations enable Luo Feng to learn the ability, also called God-Slaying in the later passages 205 207.
Divine-Beast Physique
- Durability: His body is comparable to a physical-defense Sovereign Artifact 39 165.
- Natural potential: His exceptional birth grants bodily limits high enough to support Sovereign Artifact-level tempering 175.
- Demonstrated resistance: Luo Feng’s strongest attack during their duel leaves only a small wound on Beirut’s chest, while the collision tears open Luo Feng’s palm 165.
Law Comprehension and Sovereign Willpower
- Law fusion: Fuses five Profound Mysteries but remains short of Paragon 39 107.
- Darkness combat: Uses the Profound Mysteries of Darkness through his black staff during his duel with Luo Feng 165.
- Shared Willpower: His Divine Clone draws upon the Willpower of his Sovereign clone, allowing it to keep pace with Luo Feng’s Paragon-level movements 165.
- Combat limitation: His powerful body and Willpower do not erase the gap between his Law comprehension and Luo Feng’s complete fusion of the nine Wind Profound Mysteries 165.
Divine Spark Weapon Crafting
- Signature craft: Creates Divine Spark Weapons renowned across the planes for approaching Sovereign Artifacts in quality 39.
- Personal weapon: Uses a Divine Spark staff rather than a Sovereign Artifact in his public identity as a Blood Peak emissary 165.
- Commission: Offers to make Luo Feng a Divine Spark glove in exchange for teaching Harry and his brothers 168.
Divine-Beast Research
- Four Ultimate Warriors: Develops a method of transforming ordinary humans with the Four Divine Beasts’ essence blood. Early subjects die before he perfects the process 201.
- Human compatibility: Identifies humans’ strong capacity for assimilation as the reason they can accommodate such transformations; ordinary low-level magical beasts lack the necessary soul compatibility 205.
- Research cost: Extracting his own essence blood weakens him and requires a long period of recuperation 205.
Control of the Necropolis of the Gods
- Access: Unseals its underwater spatial entrance with black light and opens separate routes for humans and magical beasts 54.
- Administration: Appoints guardians, determines terms of service, and places treasures within the Necropolis 58 70.
- Spatial travel: Opens passages to retrieve participants and tears open a rift into Spatial Turbulence for Luo Feng and Bluefire’s duel 73 204.
- Warning to entrants: States that he cannot save someone who dies inside while he remains outside 54.
Background / History
Sovereign Sparks and the Four Ultimate Warriors
Beirut refined the Wind Sovereign Spark himself and retained three others associated with earth, fire, and water. He intended to choose their inheritors through repeated testing rather than distribute them indiscriminately 201.
To protect his Divine Clone from the Sovereign of Light, Beirut surrendered half of the Four Divine Beasts’ essence blood to the Sovereign of Destruction. In return, the latter guaranteed his clone’s safety provided it stayed out of the Radiant Divine Realm 201.
Beirut also experimented with the remaining essence blood. After initial failures killed his human subjects, he successfully created the first generation of Four Ultimate Warriors: Baruch, Amanda, Hyde, and Bolei. He later explains that these transformations were responsible for their rise from otherwise unremarkable battlefield lives 201 202.
Tarosse’s Confinement
When Tarosse challenged Beirut as a Lowgod, Beirut defeated him without allowing him a chance to resist and confined him in the Metal Castle. He subsequently offered Tarosse freedom and a Highgod Artifact in exchange for serving a fixed term as administrator of the Necropolis’s first eleven floors 58.
Luo Feng’s Necropolis Expedition
Luo Feng first attracted Beirut’s interest by playing the zither for his sons. The music helped them comprehend and fuse Wind Laws, eventually contributing to their advancement to Asura-level strength. After the brothers became sworn brothers with Luo Feng, Beirut agreed to give him an opportunity to enter the Necropolis 54 201.
Beirut conveyed the invitation through his sons, then personally escorted Luo Feng through the South Sea entrance. He explained the eighteen-floor structure, identified the Ba-Serpent guardian, and warned against greed and carelessness 52 54.
In appreciation of the insights he had gained from Luo Feng’s music, Beirut placed three Lowgod Divine Sparks—wind, water, and lightning—on the eleventh floor before returning to cultivation. Twenty years later, he retrieved Luo Feng and escorted the waiting experts back to the Yulan Continent 70 73.
Reunion and Duel in Indigo Prefecture
Beirut reunited with Linley and Bebe in the Skyrite Mountains and publicly acknowledged Luo Feng as a Paragon. He also arranged assistance from his old friend Dennington to expose Furhan’s betrayal 164 166.
Three days after accepting Luo Feng’s challenge, Beirut fought him at the edge of the great gorge. Their clashes tore open enormous spatial rifts, but Luo Feng held the advantage in direct material attacks. After both sustained wounds in their final exchange, Beirut conceded that continuing would end in his defeat 165.
Following the duel, Beirut offered to craft a Divine Spark glove for Luo Feng in return for guidance for his three sons 168.
The Water Sovereign Spark Offer
Beirut selected Bluefire, Luo Feng, and Linley as candidates to inherit his remaining Sovereign Sparks. Luo Feng’s rapid rise to Paragon and his Water clone’s fusion of five Profound Mysteries convinced Beirut to offer him the Water Sovereign Spark taken from the Azure Dragon’s corpse 201.
Luo Feng refused because he believed refining it would restrict his future growth. Though initially stunned, Beirut accepted his reasoning and admitted that Linley was another suitable recipient. The refusal resolved his hesitation over allowing Linley to refine two Sovereign Sparks 202.
Essence Blood Bargain
After witnessing Luo Feng fight Bluefire at Sovereign-level strength, Beirut agreed to provide several dozen drops of God-Eater Rat essence blood and explain his innate ability. In exchange, Luo Feng promised protection during Beirut’s recovery and offered to kill a Darkness Lower Sovereign for him 204 205.
Luo Feng subsequently mastered God-Slaying and used it on his own Divine Clones as part of his attempt to move beyond the restrictions of Divine Sparks. Meanwhile, the presentation of a Sovereign Spark Beirut had once been willing to sacrifice his freedom to obtain left him reflecting on his age and anticipating Luo Feng’s future 207.
