Background / History
Ancient Dominance
The Gu Clan has endured for hundreds of millions of years and produced numerous figures who ascended to the Immortal Realm. Its greatest period of dominance in the Xuanhuan Great World came during the Desolate Ancient Epoch, when it waged wars throughout the universe, overran countless worlds, and plundered vast quantities of resources. Some affected ancient stars and star domains had still not fully recovered by Gu Xuanjin’s era 31 40.
Although initially described as a clan that had never declined, the Xuanhuan Branch had suffered a concealed loss of strength and providence. Its continued supremacy in the lower world concealed the scale of that setback 1 26 43.
The Xuanhuan Branch’s Decline
A native of a newly discovered world possessed a Gu Clan junior from the Xuanhuan Branch and entered the wider clan’s territory. He slaughtered younger clan members and destroyed several connected great worlds before multiple Gu Clan Immortal Emperors returned and killed him 43.
The other branches blamed the Xuanhuan Branch and demanded that it supply eighty percent of the people and providence required for reconstruction. An old ancestor negotiated this down to fifty percent, but the settlement still severely weakened the branch. After reaching its historical peak, the Xuanhuan Gu Clan withdrew from prominence to recuperate 43.
Despite this loss, earlier ascendants and exceptionally talented later divine sons kept the Xuanhuan Branch among the strongest five of the wider clan’s forty-three branches. The ancestor associated with Abyssal Blowing Snow regarded Gu Xuanjin’s emergence as evidence that the branch had almost fully recovered 42 43.
Organization & Leadership
- Ancestral oversight: Senior ancestors usually reside in the ancestral shrine and deliberate on threats, the protection of younger members, and major military action 26 31.
- Divine Son’s authority: Gu Xuanjin can command the Divine Martial Guard and direct clan deployments. During his parents’ absence, the ancestors explicitly recognize that he has the final say in clan affairs 2 26 32.
- Protection of younger generations: Before attacking the Myriad Demon Divine Court, the clan recalled its prodigies from the Heavenly Demon Dao Domain to prevent retaliatory killings 26 31.
- Preserved ancient talents: The clan sheltered two dormant prodigies dating from the Desolate Ancient Era and the Primordial Era, both retrieved before the war 26 31.
