Arc 9The Wandenreich Intrigue

Wang Xun’s Garganta research exposed the Wandenreich, drawing him into a dangerous contest between Aizen, Urahara, and the Quincy. After helping uncover and capture Loyd’s imposture, Wang Xun returned to his new duties in the Fourth Division and found signs that a Quincy arrow had killed a Third Seat.

  • Tessai Tsukabishi taught Wang Xun the basics of forbidden spatial techniques, and Wang Xun used them to create a stable Garganta that Aizen ordered him to keep developing.
  • While visiting Kaien Shiba, Wang Xun absorbed fragments from Ukitake and discovered that they came from the Soul King’s Right Arm, and he also sparred with Yoruichi Shihōin and improved his Shunkō.
  • Wang Xun’s Garganta experiments revealed the hidden Wandenreich beneath Seireitei, and he and Kisuke Urahara arranged a probe that led Jugram Haschwalth to attack the experimental base and capture Kaname Tōsen.
  • Aizen ordered Wang Xun to locate the Quincy and explore an alliance, while Wang Xun and Urahara entered the Wandenreich, rescued the real Tōsen from Silbern, and left a matching Gigai in his cell.
  • Aizen and Wang Xun tested the disguised Tōsen during an Arrancar experiment, then released the real Tōsen to expose Loyd, who had impersonated him and spied for the Wandenreich.
  • Wang Xun defeated and restrained Loyd, while Tōsen confronted Wang Xun over his role in the events leading to Tōsen’s capture, and Aizen assigned Tōsen to guard Loyd and sent Wang Xun back to the Fourth Division.
  • After becoming lieutenant of the Fourth Division, Wang Xun treated Ukitake and absorbed more Soul King fragments, then investigated a dead Third Seat and found a puncture resembling the mark of a Quincy Reishi arrow.
Chapters 201–225 Vol. 3 Read

Ch. 201Spatial Techniques

Wang Xun sought Tessai Tsukabishi’s help with Kisuke Urahara’s forbidden Garganta plan, and Tessai agreed to teach him spatial techniques. Wang Xun quickly understood the theory and demonstrated an imprecise spatial movement, leaving Tessai astonished by his talent as Wang Xun departed.

  • Tessai Tsukabishi considered whether helping Wang Xun study Kisuke Urahara’s Garganta plan would violate Soul Society’s prohibition on spatial techniques.
  • Tessai warned Wang Xun that spatial research was forbidden, then agreed to teach him the basics.
  • Tessai explained how Soul Reapers could anchor spatial nodes and suggested Wang Xun use Hollow Reiatsu to guide them.
  • Wang Xun absorbed Tessai’s advanced Kidō insights, answered questions about spatial techniques, and demonstrated spatial movement by teleporting a strand of hair.
  • Tessai praised Wang Xun’s successful but imprecise attempt and told him to return for further instruction, then watched him leave in stunned excitement.

Ch. 202Garganta Experiment

Wang Xun demonstrated that he could use his Hollowfication Reiatsu and a spatial formula to open a miniature Garganta, impressing Aizen with his understanding and control. Aizen urged him to continue the research, while Wang Xun focused on proving his value and sensed his clone nearing the peak of Adjuchas in Hueco Mundo.

  • Wang Xun told Aizen that the Garganta formula was ready for testing and explained how he could use his Hollowfication Reiatsu as a shortcut to open a passage.
  • Wang Xun formed a half-mask and used Reiatsu to inscribe the formula, adjusting its nodes in response to the energy's feedback.
  • Wang Xun opened a stable, half-meter Garganta, then closed it and described the research needed to improve its stability, size, and positioning.
  • Aizen praised Wang Xun's ability and told him to continue the Garganta research, offering support if he needed anything.
  • Wang Xun sensed his clone in Hueco Mundo devouring another Adjuchas and advancing toward the peak of Adjuchas.

Ch. 203Kaname Tōsen at a Loss

Wang Xun rapidly advanced the Garganta plan by studying spatial techniques with Tessai Tsukabishi and Kisuke Urahara. When Aizen assigned Kaname Tōsen to assist Wang Xun, Tōsen struggled to understand the work and was left shaken by the gap between them.

  • Wang Xun mastered most of the spatial technique framework under Tessai Tsukabishi, who explained that his Reiatsu was still too low for large-scale techniques.
  • Wang Xun reviewed Kisuke Urahara's updated Garganta plan and identified improvements to its Reiatsu transitions.
  • Aizen reviewed Wang Xun's plan and ordered Kaname Tōsen to cooperate with him and help prepare for the experiment.
  • Kaname Tōsen struggled to understand the technique's Reiatsu nodes while Wang Xun asked him to check and calibrate them.
  • Wang Xun clarified the tangled nodes for Kaname Tōsen, who realized he still could not match Wang Xun's understanding despite years of preparation.

Ch. 204Kaien Joins the Division

Wang Xun saw Kaname Tōsen struggle to keep up with his Garganta research before visiting Kaien Shiba in the Thirteenth Division. There, he discovered that fragments released from Jūshirō Ukitake’s Soul King’s Right Arm increased his Hōgyoku Awakening Level, and he decided to visit often.

  • Kaname Tōsen admitted that Wang Xun had advanced much faster in spatial techniques and accepted Aizen’s advice to focus on his own strengths.
  • Wang Xun learned that Kaien Shiba had joined the Thirteenth Division as a high-ranking Seated Officer and went to visit him.
  • Kaien showed Wang Xun around the Thirteenth Division, where they met Captain Ukitake.
  • When Ukitake coughed, Wang Xun absorbed luminous fragments from him, raising his Hōgyoku Awakening Level to 2.8%.
  • Wang Xun realized the fragments came from Ukitake’s Soul King’s Right Arm and decided to visit the Thirteenth Division regularly.

Ch. 205Who Did You Say Owned This Place?

Kaname Tōsen struggled with jealousy as Wang Xun’s talent and influence grew, then encountered Wang Xun’s business on Noble Street and was further unsettled by their chance meeting. Tōsen left determined to keep serving Aizen, but his resentment toward Wang Xun continued to deepen.

  • Kaname Tōsen gave up trying to understand Wang Xun’s spatial experiments and focused on assisting, while resentment grew as Aizen praised Wang Xun.
  • Unable to bear his thoughts after an experiment, Kaname Tōsen wandered to Noble Street, where Sajin Komamura joined him for drinks and yakitori.
  • Komamura told Kaname Tōsen that the shop belonged to the Ōmaeda Clan and had Wang Xun as another owner, provoking Tōsen’s anger.
  • Kaname Tōsen paid an enormous bill at the shop and then saw Wang Xun arrive with Kaien and Kūkaku to meet Ganju.
  • After Komamura left, Kaname Tōsen walked alone, reaffirming his commitment to Aizen while his jealousy of Wang Xun intensified.

Ch. 206Where Did I Just Locate That?

While calibrating a Garganta, Wang Xun discovered the hidden Wandenreich space within Seireitei and concealed his find from Kaname Tōsen. He went to the cavern beneath Sōkyoku Hill to seek Kisuke Urahara, but found Yoruichi Shihōin there, who challenged him to spar.

  • Wang Xun offered Kaname Tōsen a discount at his restaurant, but Tōsen said he would not return and criticized Wang Xun for keeping worldly ties while pursuing Aizen’s plans.
  • Wang Xun opened a Garganta and sensed a hidden independent space within Seireitei, identifying its location as the Wandenreich.
  • Wang Xun told Kaname Tōsen that a Reiatsu connection had gone wrong and ended the experiment, while Tōsen tried and failed to reproduce his spatial formula.
  • Wang Xun went to the cavern beneath Sōkyoku Hill and found Yoruichi Shihōin instead of Kisuke Urahara.
  • Wang Xun told Yoruichi that Retsu Unohana trained Kendō with him, prompting Yoruichi to challenge him to a spar.

Ch. 207Battle with Yoruichi

Wang Xun sparred with Yoruichi, absorbing Hakuda and Shunpo techniques before using Kidō to trap her briefly. After Yoruichi defeated him with Shunkō, Wang Xun revealed that he could use the technique too, and their fight resumed at full speed.

  • Wang Xun agreed to spar with Yoruichi and focused on defending against her Hakuda and Shunpo attacks, gaining experience as he adapted to her techniques.
  • Wang Xun used incantationless Bakudō to catch Yoruichi, then cast Hyapporankan, but she escaped with Utsusemi and Wang Xun learned the advanced Shunpo technique.
  • Yoruichi activated Shunkō and overwhelmed Wang Xun, eventually pinning him down and allowing him to use his Zanpakuto.
  • Wang Xun slipped out of Yoruichi's grip, healed himself with Kaidō, and revealed his own Shunkō, surprising and exciting her.
  • Wang Xun and Yoruichi resumed their battle, trading blows as his Shunkō proficiency continued to rise.

Ch. 208The Hidden Space

After sparring with Yoruichi, Wang Xun told Kisuke Urahara that he had detected a vast hidden space beneath the Seireitei. They confirmed its existence and agreed to investigate it secretly, while Yoruichi waited outside to warn Wang Xun to stay safe.

  • Wang Xun and Yoruichi fought in the cavern, and his Shunkō improved as his Kaidō helped him endure the battle.
  • Kisuke Urahara arrived, and Wang Xun explained that his Garganta experiment had revealed an unfamiliar hidden space beneath the Seireitei.
  • Wang Xun used a locating technique, and Urahara confirmed that the hidden space existed and was larger than Wang Xun had described.
  • Wang Xun and Urahara agreed to keep the discovery secret for now, and Urahara asked Wang Xun not to tell Yoruichi.
  • Yoruichi waited outside the cavern, told Wang Xun she was worried about him, and invited him to spar with her again before leaving.

Ch. 209Aizen's Probe

Kaname Tōsen reported his suspicions about Wang Xun’s spatial experiment to Aizen, who questioned Wang Xun but found no proof that he was hiding anything. Wang Xun then saw Kisuke Urahara refining a covert technique to investigate the concealed space beneath the Seireitei, leaving him to consider how the converging discoveries might be used.

  • Kaname Tōsen repeatedly failed to reproduce the unusual spatial fluctuation from Wang Xun’s experiment and told Aizen that Wang Xun might have concealed a discovery.
  • Aizen told Kaname Tōsen to stop investigating and said he would question Wang Xun himself.
  • Aizen invited Wang Xun to observe the Hōgyoku’s development, then asked about the spatial positioning test; Wang Xun blamed unstable Reiatsu-node data, and Aizen let him go without evidence.
  • Wang Xun visited the cavern beneath Sōkyoku Hill and found Kisuke Urahara developing a covert technique to locate and probe the hidden space beneath the Seireitei.
  • Kisuke Urahara thanked Wang Xun for telling him about the space, and Wang Xun left the cavern considering how Aizen’s suspicions and Urahara’s investigation could work to his advantage.

Ch. 210Garganta - Hueco Mundo

Wang Xun’s successful Garganta test took Aizen and Kaname Tōsen to Hueco Mundo, where they captured several Adjuchas and brought back Wang Xun’s Hollow clone. Meanwhile, Kisuke Urahara detected the vast hidden space beneath Soul Society before its occupants severed his probe, and he told Wang Xun that he had been discovered.

  • Aizen, Kaname Tōsen, and Wang Xun entered Hueco Mundo through Wang Xun’s stable Garganta and fought off Hollows as they explored.
  • Kaname Tōsen used Bankai to defeat a group of Adjuchas, and Aizen learned from the survivors that Baraggan ruled Hueco Mundo from Las Noches.
  • Aizen chose to return with the captured Adjuchas instead of seeking out Baraggan, then spotted Wang Xun’s wounded Hollow clone defeating three Adjuchas and ordered it captured as well.
  • Kisuke Urahara used spatial detection based on Wang Xun’s coordinates to discover a vast hidden space beneath Soul Society, but an unknown force cut off his probe.
  • Urahara met Wang Xun outside the Fourth Division and reported that the hidden space contained numerous life signs and that its occupants had discovered him.

Ch. 211Diverting the Trouble

Wang Xun and Kisuke Urahara decided to redirect the Wandenreich’s attention toward Aizen’s secret laboratory by sending another probe from its location. The Wandenreich traced the sustained signal to Rukongai West District 28, and Jugram Haschwalth set out to eliminate whoever was behind it.

  • Kisuke Urahara told Wang Xun that the hidden space had detected his probe and that its coordinates had disappeared, so Wang Xun proposed diverting suspicion to Aizen’s laboratory.
  • Wang Xun and Kisuke Urahara agreed to send another probe from Aizen’s experimental base while Urahara erased traces that could lead back to him.
  • Wang Xun opened a Garganta at the Rukongai base and used Urahara’s device to send a sustained probe toward the Wandenreich beneath Seireitei.
  • Jugram Haschwalth ordered the Wandenreich researchers to track the probe rather than interrupt it, and they traced its source to the barren mountains in Rukongai West District 28.
  • Jugram Haschwalth refused to expose the Wandenreich by sending troops and instead decided to lead a group himself to eliminate the intruders.

Ch. 212The Balance

Haschwalth and Cang Du infiltrated Soul Society to investigate the force spying on the Wandenreich, then attacked Aizen's Garganta experimental base. They defeated and captured Kaname Tōsen, taking him and the remaining documents for interrogation before disappearing into the shadows.

  • Haschwalth and Cang Du entered Soul Society near the Seireitei and set out to find the people spying on the Wandenreich.
  • Kaname Tōsen oversaw the dismantling of Aizen's Garganta experimental base while Wang Xun was away with Aizen at another base.
  • Haschwalth and Cang Du ambushed Tōsen's team, killing the accompanying members and confronting Tōsen.
  • Tōsen activated Suzumushi Final Form: Enma Kōrogi, but Haschwalth's The Balance and Freund Schild reflected Tōsen's attacks back onto him.
  • Cang Du stopped Tōsen from killing himself and bound him with The Jail as Haschwalth ordered the documents collected and the base cleaned up.
  • Haschwalth and Cang Du carried the unconscious Tōsen away with the documents, leaving the experimental area behind.

Ch. 213Aizen's Fury

Aizen discovered that Kaname Tōsen had been captured and his experimental site destroyed, then clashed with Haschwalth, who escaped through the shadows. Aizen ordered Wang Xun to take over Tōsen’s Hōgyoku experiments and investigate the hidden force behind the attack.

  • Aizen explained to Wang Xun how the Hōgyoku could break a Soul Reaper’s limits while Wang Xun secretly monitored his Hollow double.
  • When Kaname Tōsen failed to return, Aizen took Wang Xun to the barren mountains and found the barriers broken, the equipment smashed, and Tōsen missing.
  • Aizen questioned Wang Xun about the attack, but a sudden appearance by Haschwalth interrupted them and shifted Aizen’s suspicions.
  • Haschwalth fought Aizen briefly, then escaped by traveling through the shadows after Aizen cast Black Coffin.
  • Aizen ordered Wang Xun to clean up the site, take over Kaname Tōsen’s share of the Hōgyoku experiments, and investigate the attackers.

Ch. 214Schrift Fragment

After the Wandenreich captured Kaname Tōsen, Wang Xun gained a Schrift fragment and realized the danger of Aizen and the enemy exchanging information. He and Kisuke Urahara planned to infiltrate the enemy’s hidden space, and Urahara sought help from the imprisoned Mayuri Kurotsuchi.

  • Wang Xun absorbed fragments from the wreckage and gained the Schrift A, Devour All, though its awakening was only one percent.
  • Aizen ordered Wang Xun to investigate the enemy’s spatial abilities as they left the ruined experimental site.
  • Wang Xun worried that Kaname Tōsen might reveal his role in drawing the Wandenreich to the site, so he went to Kisuke Urahara for help.
  • Urahara agreed to study the enemy’s spatial technology, while Wang Xun offered to scan for the coordinates he had recorded earlier.
  • After Wang Xun left, Urahara went deeper into the Maggot’s Nest and spoke to the imprisoned Mayuri Kurotsuchi.

Ch. 215Undercurrents

Kisuke Urahara recruited Mayuri Kurotsuchi to investigate a hidden space in the Seireitei, then brought him to a laboratory in the Maggot’s Nest. In the Wandenreich, Royd Lloyd used Kaname Tōsen’s appearance and memories to reveal that Sōsuke Aizen’s group sought the Hōgyoku, while Haschwalth ordered increased surveillance of Soul Society.

  • Urahara told Mayuri about the hidden space and asked for help investigating the group inside it, offering to loosen Mayuri’s shackles and make him vice director of a future research institute.
  • Urahara freed Mayuri from his shackles, and Mayuri asked him to let Akon out once their work was finished; Urahara agreed to let Akon move freely without learning about their investigation.
  • Urahara led Mayuri to a secret laboratory in the Maggot’s Nest, where Mayuri began studying documents on the space-detection technique.
  • Haschwalth questioned Royd Lloyd, who had taken Tōsen’s form and accessed his memories, and learned that Aizen’s group sought to overthrow Soul Society and research the Hōgyoku.
  • Royd suspected that Wang Xun, who was in charge of experiments to open the Garganta, had discovered the Wandenreich’s location; Haschwalth ordered him to compile Tōsen’s knowledge and told Cang Du to increase surveillance of Soul Society.

Ch. 216So They Were Quincy

Aizen identified the force that attacked his experimental base as surviving Quincy and planned to exploit their conflict with the Gotei 13. He confronted Wang Xun over concealed actions, then tolerated his partial confession and ordered him to locate the Quincy without acting until instructed.

  • Aizen showed Wang Xun an ancient account of the Lichtreich invasion and concluded that the hidden attackers were Quincy who had survived in Soul Society.
  • Aizen proposed temporarily cooperating with the Quincy to weaken the Gotei 13, then turning against them, and assigned Wang Xun to find their hidden space and offer cooperation.
  • Aizen questioned Wang Xun about Kaname Tōsen's earlier accusation that he had made small moves during the experiments.
  • Wang Xun admitted he had detected and repeatedly probed a strange spatial fluctuation, but concealed that he had deliberately initiated the probe.
  • Aizen forgave Wang Xun for now, told him to find the Quincy and potentially rescue Kaname Tōsen, and warned him not to act without orders once he located their space.

Ch. 217Alliance

Wang Xun witnessed Quilge Opie return Kaname Tōsen to Aizen and propose an alliance between the Wandenreich and Aizen. Later, Wang Xun told Kisuke Urahara that the returned Tōsen was a Quincy impostor and proposed rescuing the real Tōsen, while Urahara continued researching a way into the Wandenreich.

  • Quilge Opie returned Kaname Tōsen to Wang Xun and asked Aizen to consider an alliance with the Wandenreich.
  • Aizen agreed to consider the alliance on the condition that the Wandenreich aid him when he attacked the Seireitei, and both sides agreed to keep their existence secret.
  • Wang Xun absorbed a Schrift Fragment that fell beside Tōsen, raising his Schrift awakening to 2%.
  • Wang Xun found Mayuri Kurotsuchi assisting Kisuke Urahara with research into the Wandenreich's spatial technology.
  • Wang Xun told Urahara that the returned Tōsen was a Quincy spy in disguise and proposed entering the Wandenreich to rescue the real Tōsen and expose the impostor.
  • Urahara warned Wang Xun that the plan was dangerous and asked him to wait while he spent a few more days finding a way into the Wandenreich.

Ch. 218The Wandenreich infiltration succeeds

Wang Xun discovered that the Kaname Tōsen in Aizen’s laboratory was a Quincy impostor seeking information on the Hōgyoku, and he began planning to exploit the Quincy's attempt to seize it. After Kisuke Urahara opened a passage into the Wandenreich, the two infiltrated its capital and learned that prisoners were held in Silbern’s underground prison.

  • Wang Xun noticed that Kaname Tōsen’s technical ability had declined and sensed his emotions shift when they discussed the Hōgyoku, leading him to suspect that the Quincy wanted to steal it.
  • Wang Xun absorbed Schrift fragments near Kaname Tōsen, awakened The Glutton enough to use it, and secretly began draining the impostor’s Reiatsu through touch.
  • Kisuke Urahara prepared a passage into the Wandenreich and gave Wang Xun a Reiatsu-mimicking Gigai and cloaks that concealed their Reiatsu.
  • Wang Xun and Kisuke Urahara entered the Wandenreich, evaded patrols, and surveyed its streets until they reached Silbern.
  • Kisuke Urahara subdued a Quincy named Alphard and used a hypnosis device to learn that prisoners were held in Silbern’s underground prison, with important captives kept on the deepest part of its third level.
  • Wang Xun and Kisuke Urahara decided to scout the prison and search for Kaname Tōsen.

Ch. 219Rescuing Tōsen

Wang Xun and Urahara infiltrated Silbern and rescued the badly injured Kaname Tōsen from the underground prison. After returning to the Maggot's Nest, they planned to heal him and keep him hidden until they needed him.

  • Wang Xun recognized the cloaked Pernida Parnkgjas as a carrier of the Soul King's presence, touched him, and survived his twisting ability after Shackle Lotus analyzed it.
  • Wang Xun and Urahara entered Silbern's prison by disrupting its detection barriers and reached Kaname Tōsen's cell on the third level.
  • Urahara removed Tōsen's restraints while Wang Xun stood guard, then replaced him with a matching Gigai bearing replicated wounds.
  • Wang Xun carried Tōsen as he and Urahara escaped Silbern through a weak point in the spatial barrier and returned to the secret laboratory in the Maggot's Nest.
  • Wang Xun said he would heal Tōsen and keep him sealed in the Maggot's Nest until they needed him.

Ch. 220The Transfer Order Arrives, Yamada Departs

Cang Du and Aizen reached a secret understanding while Loyd, disguised as Kaname Tōsen, reported on Aizen’s Hōgyoku plans to the Wandenreich. After Kiyōnosuke Yamada transferred to the Shin'ō Medical Institute, Wang Xun became lieutenant of the Fourth Division and prepared for Aizen’s next experiment, which would attempt to turn Hollows into Arrancar.

  • Cang Du and Aizen agreed to cooperate against the Gotei 13, while privately treating the alliance as temporary and self-serving.
  • Cang Du met Loyd, disguised as Kaname Tōsen, and learned that Aizen sought two Hōgyoku and planned to fuse them.
  • Central 46 transferred Kiyōnosuke Yamada to the Shin'ō Medical Institute, and Wang Xun joined the Fourth Division members to see him off.
  • Unohana appointed Wang Xun lieutenant of the Fourth Division after Yamada’s departure.
  • Aizen told Wang Xun that the next Hōgyoku experiment would begin in three days and asked him to prepare materials and assist Kaname Tōsen.
  • Wang Xun inspected his sealed Hollow clone but chose other Hollows for the experiment instead.

Ch. 221Arrancarization Experiment

Wang Xun’s Arrancarization experiment succeeded briefly before the Hollow reverted and collapsed, while the fake Kaname Tōsen’s mistakes deepened Aizen’s suspicions. Aizen planned to take Wang Xun to Hueco Mundo and leave Tōsen at the experimental base, and Wang Xun hurried to warn Kisuke Urahara.

  • Wang Xun noticed the disguised Kaname Tōsen’s subtle flaw as they prepared for Aizen’s Arrancarization experiment.
  • Kaname Tōsen’s control errors caused the first three Hollow specimens to perish, so Aizen ordered Wang Xun to take over.
  • Wang Xun stabilized the experiment long enough for a Hollow to become an Arrancar, but the incomplete Hōgyoku could not prevent its reversal and collapse.
  • Aizen said the Hōgyoku needed to be strengthened and arranged to take Wang Xun to Hueco Mundo, leaving Tōsen behind to review the data.
  • Wang Xun concluded that Aizen was testing the fake Tōsen and hurried toward Seireitei to warn Kisuke Urahara.

Ch. 222Tōsen Returns

Loyd warned Cang Du that Aizen suspected his disguise, but Cang Du ordered him to remain undercover. Wang Xun and Urahara arranged for the real Kaname Tōsen to return, and Aizen confirmed his identity when he demonstrated his skill with the Hōgyoku experiment.

  • Loyd told Cang Du that he feared exposure and asked whether he should seize the Hōgyoku, but Cang Du ordered him to keep gathering information and wait.
  • Aizen and Wang Xun secretly watched the disguised Kaname Tōsen, agreed that his recent behavior was suspicious, and left to collect Hollow materials in Hueco Mundo.
  • Wang Xun told Kisuke Urahara that Aizen suspected the fake Tōsen, and they decided to release the real Kaname Tōsen so both would appear at once.
  • Urahara's accomplice left the recovering Kaname Tōsen in West Rukongai, and Tōsen woke and made his way to Aizen's laboratory.
  • Aizen asked the returned Tōsen to perform the Hōgyoku experiment, recognized his familiar skill, and comforted him after the experiment failed.
  • Wang Xun entered the laboratory and found Aizen embracing the sobbing Kaname Tōsen.

Ch. 223Exposed

Wang Xun tested the strength of his Hollowfication against Loyd, the Quincy spy disguised as Kaname Tōsen, and defeated him with a combination of swordsmanship and Kidō. After Aizen revealed that he had long suspected Loyd, he ordered Wang Xun to keep the spy sealed and assigned Tōsen to interrogate him.

  • Wang Xun and Aizen explained that the returned Kaname Tōsen had exposed the impostor, and Aizen kept Tōsen hidden while they waited for Loyd to appear.
  • Aizen asked Loyd to fight Wang Xun so he could assess the strength of Wang Xun’s Hollowfication.
  • Wang Xun overwhelmed Loyd, countered his Bankai with a Reiatsu-thread sensing technique, and restrained him with Bakudō.
  • Wang Xun reinforced Loyd’s restraints when the spy realized he had been exposed, and Aizen revealed he had suspected him since his return.
  • Aizen ordered Tōsen to demonstrate the Prison Squad’s interrogation skills on Loyd.

Ch. 224Returning to the Thirteenth Division

After helping capture Loyd, Wang Xun returned to his duties as the Fourth Division's new vice-captain and visited Ukitake at the Thirteenth Division. He learned that a captains' meeting would address unusual Reiatsu fluctuations, gained Soul King Fragments while examining Ukitake, and secured an invitation to visit again.

  • Tōsen dragged the bound Loyd into a secret chamber, then confronted Wang Xun about his role in the events that led to Tōsen's capture; Wang Xun admitted his involvement, and Tōsen said they were on different paths.
  • Aizen paused the Hōgyoku experiments, assigned Tōsen to guard Loyd and organize Arrancar data, and sent Wang Xun back to the Fourth Division; the next day, Wang Xun handled his new vice-captain duties.
  • Wang Xun visited Kaien at the Thirteenth Division and met Ukitake and Chōjirō Sasakibe, who had come to discuss strange Reiatsu fluctuations in Rukongai and a captains' meeting planned for the following week.
  • Wang Xun examined Ukitake with Kaidō, absorbed three Soul King Fragments that raised his Hōgyoku Awakening Level to 5.15%, and wrote Ukitake a recuperation prescription.
  • Ukitake thanked Wang Xun and encouraged him to visit the Thirteenth Division often.

Ch. 225The Captains' Meeting

At the captains' meeting, Wang Xun learned that unfamiliar Reiatsu traces had been found across Rukongai and inside Seireitei, which he suspected were connected to Aizen's plans. Later, he examined the deceased Third Seat of the Fifth Division at Shinji Hirako's request and discovered a hidden wound resembling a Quincy's Reishi arrow, leaving Hirako stunned by Wang Xun's conclusion.

  • Kirio Hikifune and Yoruichi Shihōin reported unidentified Reiatsu traces in Rukongai and Seireitei, and Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryūsai ordered the divisions to strengthen patrols.
  • Wang Xun suspected Aizen had caused the traces and wondered whether Aizen was planning something involving the Quincy.
  • Shinji Hirako asked Wang Xun to reexamine his dead Third Seat, whose death had been attributed to a Hollow attack.
  • Wang Xun found a tiny, concealed puncture beneath the fatal chest wound that resembled a Quincy Reishi arrow's mark.
  • Wang Xun told Hirako that the Third Seat had died from another cause and suggested asking Unohana to conduct a fuller examination.
