Geography and Cosmology
World Structure
- Boundary with Chaos: A world membrane separates the Primordial World from the surrounding Chaos. Cultivators cross this boundary to travel to Hongjun's palace 21.
- Starry sky: Contains billions upon billions of stars. The Demon Race's Zhou Tian Star Dou Great Formation connects to them to draw power 44.
- Four extremes: The Four Sacred Beasts stand outside the world in Chaos, suppressing its four extremes, eight directions, and past, present, and future 14.
- Scale: Ao Changsheng considers it among the largest worlds in Chaos, although he has not personally explored Chaos at that point 32.
Notable Locations

Connected and Separate Domains
- Purple Firmament Palace / Purple Cloud Palace: Hongjun's preaching palace lies in Chaos, outside the Primordial World 7 21.
- Ao Changsheng's cultivation ground: A system-created sanctuary based on the Primordial World's own heaven and earth. Hongjun identifies it as a reconstructed small world rather than a simple piece cut away from the larger world 1 6.
- River of Space and Time: Allows Daluo cultivators to travel through the world's history to its creation. Attaining Daluo requires facing Pangu's Dao of Heaven Opening while maintaining one's own Dao 12.
History
Creation
Pangu created the Primordial World by cleaving Chaos with his axe, opening yin and yang, ordering the four manifestations, and separating the eight trigrams. Countless Chaos Demon Gods opposed him and were slain. During the world's earliest formation, its boundaries were incomplete and Chaos still mingled with its heaven and earth 12 13.
Yangmei was among the surviving Chaos Demon Gods and was subsequently reborn within the Primordial World. He valued its clear, ordered Dao as a better cultivation environment than Chaos, but anticipated that Hongjun's attainment of Sagehood would threaten his freedom to remain or depart 2.
Dragon Han First Calamity
The Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Races once dominated the Primordial World. Their struggle for supremacy ended in catastrophic losses and decline; Hongjun recalls that their ancestors were schemed against and killed by Luohou 1 6.
Ao Changsheng hatched at the calamity's end, as Luohou proclaimed his intention to transform his body into the Devil Realm. He chose seclusion rather than involvement in the fallen Dragon Race's affairs. The Dragon Race subsequently withdrew from the world, leaving him outside its refuge 1 46.
Recovery and Hongjun's Teachings
During the million years following the calamity, living beings spread across the world again, and innate great divinities emerged from seclusion. This recovery brought signs of renewed prosperity 7.
Hongjun's attainment of the Dao was accompanied by world-spanning auspicious phenomena. He established his palace in Chaos and summoned cultivators to hear his teachings. His lectures introduced the path beyond Daluo to the era's cultivators, including the Three Corpses Severing method; he also accepted disciples and distributed powerful treasures 7 21 24.
Rise of the Heavenly Court
Dijun and Eastern Emperor Taiyi founded the Heavenly Court with Hongjun's tacit approval. Its establishment gathered merit, opened the Heavenly Realm, and enabled the brothers to sever their good corpses. Hongjun regarded the gathering of the world's fate through the court as a step toward his own merger with the Dao 33.
The court's claim to govern the world challenged Eastern King Duke's authority as Hongjun's appointed head of male immortals. Over the following thousands of years, Dijun and Taiyi expanded their power by subjugating races and forcing them into the Demon Race 33 34.
Witch–Demon Conflict
The Witch Race launched a prolonged massacre of the Demon Race and its allies. Its Twelve Ancestral Witches eventually summoned a Pangu manifestation through their great formation, overwhelming the Demon Race's leaders until Hongjun intervened. He dispersed the formation and confined the entire Witch Race within Mount Buzhou for one million years 35 36 37.
After the confinement ended, the Demon Race's Zhou Tian Star Dou Great Formation enabled it to resist the witches. The second major war ended with heavy losses on both sides rather than a decisive victory. Thereafter, formation-scale clashes recurred every few hundred thousand years, alongside innumerable smaller battles 38 40 43.
Ao Changsheng Strengthens the World
During a Demon Race assault above the East Sea, Ao Changsheng trapped its formation within a newly created world. His technique proceeded through collapse and renewed creation, producing a Great Thousand World 44 45.
Hongjun manifested the Eye of the Heavenly Dao, brought the new world under the Primordial World's Heavenly Dao, and awarded Ao Changsheng merit for strengthening its origin. Watching from Chaos, the Four Sacred Beasts confirmed that the Primordial World had grown larger 45 46.
Early Human Development
Under Nüwa's protective barrier, the Human Race grew beyond one billion within a thousand years. The barrier also suppressed cultivation, while later generations experienced shorter lifespans. Tens of thousands eventually left to seek cultivation and longer lives as Laozi observed their development 50.
Governing Powers and Major Factions
- Heavenly Dao — Governs the world's order and grants merit for strengthening its origin. It can bring newly created worlds under its control 45.
- Hongjun — Becomes a Heavenly Dao Sage and later merges with the Dao. He intervenes directly in the Witch–Demon conflict and regulates its balance of power 31 37 45.
- Four Sacred Beasts — Guard the world's extremes. White Tiger destroys an approaching Chaos Demon God and feeds its transformed origin essence into the world 14.
- Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Races — Former dominant races whose struggle ended in their collective decline 1.
- Witch Race — Pangu's descendants, led by the Twelve Ancestral Witches; cultivates through integrating Great Daos into the body 17 24.
- Demon Race — A coalition theoretically open to all races, organized around resistance to the witches and led by Dijun and Taiyi 37.
- Unaffiliated immortals — Associated with Eastern King Duke, Western Queen Mother, and the three immortal islands. Eastern King Duke's effective influence remains concentrated in the East Sea 25 46.

Cultivation Paths and Restrictions
- Hongjun's Immortal Dao: Uses corpse severing to advance into the Quasi-Sage realm 24.
- High Antiquity's Dao of Hunyuan: Uses the Great Daos as references to create a personal Great Dao suited to the cultivator 19.
- Ancestral Witch cultivation: Integrates Great Daos into the physical body rather than relying on corpse severing 24.
- Inner-world cultivation: Ao Changsheng nurtures a world within himself, gaining Law Power and comprehension through its evolution 11 19.
- Restricted Hunyuan teachings: The Four Sacred Beasts discuss their restriction of the Dao of Hunyuan because ordinary practitioners can cause excessive damage to the world. Black Tortoise considers Ao Changsheng exceptional because he has absorbed almost none of its Spiritual Qi 46.
Spiritual Resources
- Innate Spiritual Qi: Exceptionally high-grade energy containing thousands of times more energy than ordinary Spiritual Qi. Although abundant within Ao Changsheng's system-supported sanctuary, it is described as exceedingly rare in the wider world 1 11.
- Ten great Innate Spirit Roots: Chaos Green Lotus, Innate Gourd Vine, Laurel Tree, Fusang Tree, Immortal Apricot, Ginseng Fruit Tree, Bodhi Tree, Bitter Bamboo, Flat Peach Fruit Tree, and Yellow Center Plum 7.
- Innate Spirit Treasures: Can be damaged, but recover with sufficient time or Law Power if their Innate Indestructible Divine Light remains intact 29.
- Heaven-Reaching Jianmu: A World Tree sapling that absorbed the Primordial World's origin. Hongjun sealed it because its early consumption harmed a world already too vast to benefit substantially from its mature form 31 32.
- Heavenly Dao Merit: Awarded to Ao Changsheng for opening a world that strengthened the Primordial World's origin 45.
