Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Talisman Wheel activation 1 Illumi’s Nen pressure activates the wheel, which copies Needle-Person Control as a purple-grade Talisman.
Forced Nen awakening 2 The copied Talisman forcibly opens his Aura Nodes. His initial panel lists Vitality, Aura, and Spirit at 5 each, with one primary socket available.
Basic Ten 3 Reconstructs Ten from his knowledge of the original story, containing his escaping life energy. Conjuring the wheel activates Needle-Person Control and transfers beginner-level memories from Illumi.
Expanded displayed attributes 4 His panel displays Essence 5–6, Aura 5–100, and Spirit 5–6.
Shu and proficient Needle-Person Control 6 Learns to strengthen his cane sword with Shu. Raising the Talisman to proficient grants Essence +1, restores stamina, and strengthens his body; the panel subsequently displays Essence 6–7.
Dynamic Simulation acquired 14 15 Solidifies a blue talent Talisman using Nen Aura, then equips it to improve movement analysis and imitation.
Proficient Dynamic Simulation 15 16 Adapts Great Stamp running techniques to his own body. Reaching proficient grants Spirit +1 and completes the wheel’s initial evolution conditions.
Black iron wheel evolution 16 The stone wheel becomes black iron and supports three primary sockets. Resizing costs are halved, and it can remain detached for two or three seconds before disappearing.
Practical Zetsu 17 Learns to perceive and close Aura Nodes sufficiently to suppress his presence and approach a Great Stamp unnoticed.
Extensive Knowledge and Strong Memory in use 25 Uses the Talisman to reconstruct remembered information about Scarlet Eyes, increasing its proficiency through memory integration.
Scarlet Eyes acquired 26 Completes purple-grade Advent Emulation. Gains precise control over individual Aura Nodes and discovers increased Spirit and Aura, though he cannot fully establish the causes.
Proficient Bungee Gum 30 Copies Hisoka’s ability and trains by swinging between trees. Reaching proficient grants Aura ×1; his displayed Aura rises from 150 to 200–300.
Conjuration confirmed by Water Divination 31 Produces black crystals, including wheel-like and octagonal shapes, identifying his affinity as Conjuration.
Material Analysis partially unlocked 37 A hidden restriction unlocks analysis of materials after the wheel’s black iron evolution. Analysis requires an available Advent Emulation use and consumes Aura.
Proficient Reflex Nerves 42 Trains by catching scattered fishbone needles. Reaching proficient strengthens both Vitality and Spirit and restores his energy.
Combat-technique imitation 44 47 Reproduces Killua’s Rhythm Echo and adapts Netero’s footwork and striking movements during the ball game.
Focused Nen healing 47 Uses Enhancement’s basic properties to close and scab his hand wounds without developing a dedicated healing ability.
Gold-grade 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva 49 Survives repeated Aura extraction to solidify the Talisman. His panel changes to Aura: 330–700, with 250/700 recovered when inspected.
Guanyin combat testing 50 Establishes its targeting and range restrictions. Two conditions for the wheel’s next evolution are satisfied, but he postpones evolving it until he finds a preferable copper-based material.

Background / History

Before transmigrating, Baishi was an anime fan approaching thirty. He attended the White Horse Lake comic convention dressed as Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler, carrying a cane sword. There, he bought stone replicas of the Twelve Talismans from Jackie Chan Adventures and received a matching wheel as a bonus. A cargo truck struck him immediately after he fitted the Talismans into the wheel 1.

He regained consciousness among the Hunter Exam candidates, wearing badge No. 108. His memories and childhood hand scar remained, but his body appeared substantially younger. Recognizing Gon, Kurapika, Killua, Hisoka, and Illumi, he realized that he had entered the world of Hunter × Hunter. He did not know how he had acquired his exam badge or whether his arrival involved bodily replacement 1 7.

The Twelve Talismans were missing from the wheel. Its mandatory quest offered a one-way opportunity to transmigrate to another world if he recovered them. Baishi chose to search, motivated by both further travel and the prospect of obtaining the Talismans’ powers 6 7.

Appearance

  • Build: Tall and straight, approximately 180 cm in height 1 7.
  • Youth-restored body: His hands are smoother, fairer, and more slender than before transmigration 1.
  • Distinguishing mark: A childhood knife scar remains on the back of his left hand 1.
  • Clothing: Fitted black formalwear retained from his Sebastian Michaelis cosplay, accompanied by a black matte cane sword 1.
  • Scarlet Eyes activation: His normally black-and-white eyes become suffused with flowing scarlet 26.

Personality

Baishi is an experimenter who tests abilities rather than accepting his first interpretation of them. His investigations establish the wheel’s summoning limits, proficiency conditions, stat rewards, and hidden functions. After learning to accelerate healing, he explicitly rejects treating his memories of the original story as an absolute limit on what Nen can accomplish 4 6 37 47.

He is cautious around stronger opponents and willing to conceal his capabilities. He presents himself as a crude Nen beginner to lower others’ guard, avoids provoking Illumi, and persuades Hisoka that allowing him to grow would produce a more interesting opponent 7 22 29.

His information-broker persona combines genuine assistance with calculated self-interest. He teaches the other candidates about Nen and sushi while using those interactions to complete tasks, obtain hair samples, and secure new emulation opportunities. He also enjoys teasing others, including Killua, Hanzo, and Menchi 8 10 24 32 34.

Although usually mild-tempered, Baishi remembers threats. After Hisoka targets him, he regards the magician as an enemy and intends to strike first once he has sufficient strength 30 32.

Abilities & Skills

Talisman Wheel

A conjured wheel that converts copied talents and Nen abilities into equippable Talismans. Activating them requires the wheel to be manifested; dismissing it removes their special effects 3 5.

  • Socket system: Begins with one primary socket and twenty-four secondary storage sockets; the black iron evolution expands active capacity to three primary sockets 2 16 50.
  • Manual activation: Talismans must be activated with Aura. A stored Talisman also requires Aura before it can be removed from a secondary socket 4 16.
  • Resizing: Can grow or shrink at an ongoing Aura cost. Its normal-sized form has no continuing maintenance cost while left unchanged 4.
  • Separation limit: Initially vanishes immediately when detached from Baishi. After evolving, it persists for two or three seconds; an Aura connection can delay disappearance 4 16.
  • Zetsu limitation: Closing his Aura Nodes causes the wheel to disappear 17.
  • Evolution materials: The next evolution requires copper-based metal. A collected gong meets the ten-kilogram quantity requirement, but Baishi delays using it while seeking a stronger material 37 50.

Analysis and Advent Emulation

Analysis reveals a target’s talents and Nen abilities while Baishi touches the person or holds their bodily tissue. Hair provides a portable sample for later use 10.

  • Graded access: Available emulation quality limits what he can analyze or copy. A blue opportunity cannot analyze Gon’s purple-grade Enhancement Vessel, and his available opportunity cannot access Killua’s gold-grade Pure Asura Heart 10 19.
  • Task rewards: Temporary Weighting Tasks grant graded Advent Emulation opportunities for actions such as answering questions, teaching sushi preparation, and completing an examination challenge 8 32 39.
  • Solidification cost: Creating Talismans drains Aura. Higher-grade Talismans can force him into Zetsu, painfully widen his Aura channels, and leave him severely exhausted 14 26 30 49.
  • Staged extraction: Insufficient reserves during his first gold-grade emulation trigger repeated cycles of recovery and forced extraction 49.
  • Material Analysis: The partially unlocked material function consumes Aura according to the material’s quality, size, and strength. It is unavailable without an Advent Emulation use 37.

Proficiency and Forced Equivalence

Practising a Talisman’s applications raises its proficiency when the relevant hidden conditions are met. Advancement can transfer experience and strengthen Baishi’s physical or mental attributes 6.

  • Ability-specific training: Needle-Person Control improves through preset manipulation triggers, even when the struck target cannot actually be controlled 5 6.
  • Physical and mental growth: Vitality and Spirit gains add to his original baseline rather than repeatedly multiplying his already-enhanced condition 42.
  • Aura growth: Bungee Gum’s proficient reward, displayed as Aura ×1, adds one hundred Aura points in the instance Baishi examines 30.

Copied Talismans

Talisman Grade Applications and limits
Needle-Person Control Purple Copies Illumi’s control over living targets through Nen-infused piercing media. Baishi controls a Great Stamp with a twig, but must implant a clear command beforehand. It does not grant general object flight or control over an inanimate tree 1 5 17 18.
Dynamic Simulation Blue Rapidly observes, analyzes, and reproduces physical movements and force-exertion techniques. Its apparent slow motion comes from faster mental processing; it steadily consumes Aura while active 15.
Extensive Knowledge and Strong Memory Not specified Integrates remembered information, including Scarlet Eyes lore, sushi preparation videos, and knowledge of the exam route. It cannot supply information absent from his memories 25 32 37.
Scarlet Eyes Purple Allows him to suppress or intensify emotions while maintaining absolute rationality. He removes it after testing because he finds the resulting emotional detachment unsettling 26.
Bungee Gum Purple Copies Hisoka’s elastic, adhesive Aura. Baishi uses it to swing through the forest, secure the wheel to his body, and hold fish 30 31 32.
Reflex Nerves Not specified Greatly accelerates movement-related nerve conduction, producing a stronger subjective slowing effect than Dynamic Simulation 42.
100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva Gold; analyzed as gold/red Produces a many-armed golden Guanyin through concentrated will and the unification of mind, technique, and body 49.

100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva

The golden Guanyin attacks at tremendous speed wherever Baishi mentally locks onto a target 49 50.

  • Range: Twice the manifested image’s size; a two-and-a-half-meter image reaches approximately five meters 50.
  • Targeting: Requires focused thought. Jumbled thoughts prevent accurate attacks 50.
  • Gestures: Pressing his palms together and making subsequent attack gestures help map the image’s strikes 50.
  • Aura demand: Manifestation and individual attacks consume substantial Aura; exhaustion causes the image to disappear 49 50.

Nen Fundamentals and Combat

  • Ten: Contains escaping Aura and reinforces his body. Its protection withstands Killua’s attacks before Killua learns Nen 3 22.
  • Shu: Strengthens his cane sword, knives, and improvised cutting tools; his reinforced cane blade penetrates a tree trunk with little resistance 6 31 37.
  • Zetsu: Suppresses his presence and accelerates recovery, though it also removes the wheel and its active benefits 17 30.
  • Focused healing: Directs Aura into cuts to accelerate closure and scabbing 47.
  • Movement imitation: Copies Rhythm Echo, Netero’s footwork, and striking mechanics, adapting the latter into straight thrusts 44 47.
  • Cooking: Has prior home-cooking experience and uses memory integration and movement simulation to reproduce sushi-making techniques 28 32.

Lost-Talisman Detection

  • Feeding Aura into the wheel produces intermittent, approximate directional impressions resembling radar 6 7.
  • Signals become clearer as he approaches a Talisman; the strongest nearby signal eventually points beneath Trick Tower 48 50.
  • The signal does not identify which of the Twelve Talismans is present before he retrieves it 48 50.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Black cane sword — Brought from his cosplay; used for Shu practice and manipulation-trigger training 1 6.
  • Fishbone needles — Dozens of sharpened, finger-length bones prepared as portable piercing implements; more flexible than twigs but light enough to demand greater throwing skill 37.
  • Six boning knives — Taken from the cooking stations, wrapped in cloth, and concealed throughout his formalwear 37.
  • Copper-based gong — Collected as a possible material for the wheel’s next evolution 37.
  • Hair samples — Collected from Gon, Kurapika, Killua, and Netero for Analysis and Advent Emulation 10 11 24 46.

Relationships

  • Gon — An exam companion who trusts Baishi’s knowledge and praises him as an information broker. Baishi explains Nen to him and trades information for his hair 10.
  • Kurapika — Receives information about Nen and an aptitude assessment. After Baishi identifies his exceptional potential, Kurapika asks to become his disciple; acceptance is not established in the provided events 11.
  • Killua — Initially clashes with Baishi’s teasing manner, then privately consults him about his fear and Illumi. Baishi warns him against confronting his brother and requests hair from talented Zoldyck family members 19 21 22 24.
  • Leorio — An exam companion whom Baishi teaches alongside the others. Teaching him sushi preparation completes a task that rewards additional emulation opportunities 28 32.
  • Illumi — The unwitting source of Needle-Person Control. Baishi exposes his Gittarackur disguise to Killua but avoids a direct confrontation and cannot safely remove the Nen needle in Killua’s head 1 21 24.
  • Hisoka — A predatory enemy fascinated by Baishi’s growth. Baishi copies Bungee Gum through brief contact and later considers whether Guanyin could let him counterattack 29 30 50.
  • Menchi — His cooking examiner and an Analysis target. His sushi impresses her despite her decision to fail all candidates in the original test 34 35.
  • Netero — A coveted emulation target and informal instructor. His ball challenge gives Baishi an opportunity to collect hair, study martial techniques, and learn a broader application of Nen 44 46 47.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Hunter Exam: Awakening and Information Trading

After Illumi’s pressure activates the wheel, Baishi survives forced Nen awakening by reconstructing Ten from memory. He approaches Gon’s group as an information broker, discovers that their requests can trigger Weighting Tasks, and starts exchanging his knowledge for samples needed by Analysis 1 2 3 8 10.

Cooking Tests and Hisoka’s Attention

During the Great Stamp hunt, Baishi develops Dynamic Simulation, evolves the wheel, and learns practical Zetsu. He then leads his companions toward fishing grounds for Menchi’s sushi challenge and demonstrates preparation techniques. Although Menchi declares that nobody has passed, she is impressed by his own dish 15 16 17 28 32 34.

Hisoka’s threatening interest turns their relationship openly hostile. Baishi obtains Bungee Gum during their encounter, then completes the replacement Grape Spider egg challenge and earns a purple Advent Emulation reward 29 30 38 39.

Airship Ball Game

Baishi joins Gon and Killua in Netero’s ball-stealing challenge, seeking access to Netero’s abilities as well as the offered Shingen-ryu instruction. He collects two strands of Netero’s hair, copies combat movements, and continues playing after the younger boys fall asleep. Afterward, he solidifies the gold-grade 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva Talisman 44 46 47 48 49.

Trick Tower and the Missing Talismans

On arrival at Trick Tower, the wheel detects a powerful signal directly below Baishi and issues a main quest to find the lost object. With seventy-two hours to reach the ground alive, he locates a hidden floor door and jumps through it before Gon can stop him 50.
