Chapter 45
Originally, the meeting between the Security Committee, represented by Medises, and the Pale Calamity colony had been going fairly smoothly. That was a good thing: the reigning imperial emperor, the legendary Zerg King of old, Sheri Saint, was growing increasingly weak, and the collapse of the royal throne was imminent.
A new royal throne was about to be established, and judging by the current trend, Ariel the Saint would be the only successor.
In the past, however, when everyone still had a choice, Ariel's candidacy for Zerg King had sparked fierce controversy among the Zerg.
Because he had a very, very serious flaw.
Although all his abilities were extraordinarily powerful, far beyond the norm, his mental state was exceptionally unstable.
Almost all the Zerg agreed on one thing about him-he was a madman.
If not for a certain accident, someone like Ariel should have been executed to prevent him from disturbing the stability of the entire swarm.
But with the Zerg King Sheri growing extremely weak, and "that one" gone, they no longer had any other choice.
To make matters worse, the Security Committee had backed the wrong candidate and had strongly opposed Ariel's succession for decades.
The Pale Calamity, on the other hand, had been close to Ariel for a long time. It was said that Carlos Pale Calamity had even willingly become Ariel's "servant Zerg" to maintain the connection between the colony and him.
Given that, this cooperation between the Security Committee and the Pale Calamity could essentially be considered an important move by the Security Committee to change sides and pledge allegiance to Ariel.
Yet just as everything was going smoothly, Medises suddenly received a strong warning signal: the automated robots he had left outside the library room and the remote ports for the entire library had been blocked from his field of consciousness by some entity.
A powerful sense of foreboding made Medises leap to his feet and rush straight to the library room.
Even before arriving, Medises had had a feeling about what had happened. Yet when he saw Ariel the Saint standing so brazenly in front of Su Lin with his own eyes, he still felt a wave of indescribable fear.
He would rather face this monster himself than have the foolish, frail Su Lin standing before him.
Before Ariel, Su Lin was far too weak. He was so weak that if Ariel was even the slightest bit careless, the mental power he leaked could directly churn the human's brain into a puddle of tofu pudding.
Worst of all, no one could guess what this madman was thinking, nor could anyone predict his actions.
Medises's wariness was far too obvious. Su Lin looked at the silver-haired Zerg, and after noticing his tension, a certain straight man's danger radar, which had grown unusually sluggish in the face of beauty, gradually regained a little of its function.
Su Lin swallowed, his throat a little dry.
The person his senior was so afraid of couldn't be him, which left only...
"Su Lin, come here."
Medises called Su Lin over.
Su Lin immediately started toward Medises, but the moment he moved, Ariel blocked his way.
The gentle, sweet "girl" smiled at Su Lin.
Then he turned to look at the silver-haired Zerg behind him.
"Lord Medises..."
The Zerg King candidate who was about to take the throne spoke in a gentle, sweet voice, his eyes full of innocence.
"Your servant Zerg is so cute. I like him so much. Give him to me."
"I'll take good care of him."
Su Lin's breath caught, and he looked at him in disbelief.
She was such a lovely girl, yet when she asked Medises for Su Lin, she was as casual as if she were asking for some worthless trinket.
No... that's not right...
In fact, in the eyes of these high-ranking Zerg, an inferior Zerg like him was a worthless trinket to begin with.
Su Lin looked at Medises in panic. Never before had he been so keenly aware that, in this Zerg world where the strong preyed on the weak, his senior was the only one he could rely on.
Only his senior.

The instant Ariel asked for Su Lin, Medises nearly revealed his original Zerg form before him—if he had done that, it would have amounted to directly provoking this mad Zerg King candidate.
Fortunately, at the last moment, Medises gritted his teeth and forcibly suppressed the dark flames that kept surging from deep within his body.
"Please forgive me..."
Medises's voice trembled, carrying the faint, barely suppressible rasp peculiar to Zerg mouthparts.
The silver-haired Zerg lowered his head, concealing his expression.
"His rank is extremely low, and he was previously used as a test subject at a human research institute. He knows nothing of Zerg etiquette, and I'm afraid he wouldn't be fit for the duties of a servant Zerg-"
"I wasn't planning to make him a servant Zerg."
Ariel sounded a little puzzled.
"He's from Dew Nest, isn't he? I can use him as my nectar source... Ah, are you angry, Lord Medises?"
The Zerg King candidate gazed at the silver-haired Zerg, who was having some difficulty maintaining his human form, and asked with utter innocence.
"I'm very sorry, Your Highness Ariel, but I cannot give Su Lin to you."
Medises hissed.
"...He's very important to me."
Medises straightened up. His eyes now looked like polished silver, and at the same time, his antennae and mouthparts gradually began to emerge.
The "girl" in the library room tilted his head.
Was his desire to possess this low-grade member of Dew Nest all to himself really so strong?
He thought.
