About the site#
What is RandomTranslator?#
RandomTranslator AI-translates Chinese web novels into English, chapter by chapter, and keeps a per-novel glossary so names and terms stay consistent across thousands of chapters. Every novel also gets a community: ratings, reviews, comments and a leaderboard. See Welcome.
Are translations made by humans?#
No. Every chapter is translated by an AI model against the novel's glossary, not by a human translator. You can rate a chapter or request a retranslation if one reads badly. See How Translation Works.
Is there an app?#
Not from us, but our read-aloud player links out to Narratorr, a companion app for listening to chapters on the go. There is no official RandomTranslator mobile app.
Reading#
Can I read past chapter 50 for free?#
Yes. Chapters 1–50 are AI-translated and free for everyone. Past chapter 50, free and signed-out readers get Google Translate running in your browser instead, using the novel's glossary so names stay consistent, even on a chapter that already has an AI translation. Untranslated chapters also translate automatically in the background across the site over time. See How Translation Works.
What's the difference between AI translation and Google Translate?#
AI translation is our own system: an AI model translates against the novel's glossary, so names, pronouns, and terms stay consistent. Google Translate is free machine translation that runs in your own browser, sending that chapter's text to Google; it's instant, but more mechanical, and doesn't get the same name-consistency check. Why is a chapter showing in Google Translate instead of AI translation?#
You're reading past chapter 50 without a Patreon subscription. Any paid tier ($5 and up) gets AI translation on every chapter, with nothing to switch. See Pricing & Limits.
Why does Google Translate show a Retry button?#
Google sometimes rate-limits the free translation running in your browser. When that happens you'll see "Google Translate could not finish translating this chapter. Check your connection and retry." with a Retry button. This only affects the free Google Translate path, not AI translation. See Troubleshooting.
Why is my novel a preview instead of a full translation?#
A Preview covers only the first 50 chapters and is free for everyone, so you can sample a novel before spending a request. A Full Translation covers the whole book and costs one of your monthly requests. You can convert a Preview to Full any time from the novel page. See Request a Novel.
Why did my theme or display settings reset?#
Theme, layout and reading settings are saved to a cookie in your browser, not to your account, so they don't follow you between browsers or devices. Clearing cookies or site data resets them. See Display Settings.
Translation quality#
The translation quality seems off. What can I do?#
Open the chapter's Translated tab and use Retranslate. It reruns the chapter through the AI with the current glossary, which usually fixes it. A thumbs-down on a chapter also files a report for the moderation team. See Translation Tools.
Why is a character's name different in earlier chapters?#
A rename normally only rewrites chapters going forward from when it's approved. Older chapters keep the previous name unless someone chooses Force retranslate for that term, which redoes the affected paragraphs specifically. See Editing Terms.
Why was my glossary edit rejected?#
Edits from non-moderators go through Discord review before they apply site-wide. You get a notification either way, approved or rejected. In the meantime, your own suggested name still applies for you as a personal translation. See Editing Terms and Personal Translations.
Requests and sources#
Why can't I request more novels?#
Requesting a novel needs the $12 tier or higher. Free and $5 accounts can't submit requests. See Pricing & Limits for exact monthly quotas by tier.
How do I get the full novel instead of a preview?#
Open the novel page and convert the Preview to a Full Translation. It costs one of your monthly full-translation requests. See Request a Novel.
How do I know if a source site is working?#
The Source Uptime panel on the Request page shows each site's reliability over the last 90 days, labelled Operational, Degraded or Down. If a source looks unhealthy, pick another one for the same novel. See Supported Sources.
Can I search for a novel instead of finding the URL myself?#
Yes. Search by name on the Request page. Results are grouped by novel and show every source it was found on. Searching costs from a monthly allowance that scales with your tier; a novel already on the site is recognised instantly and doesn't spend a search. See Request a Novel.
Glossary and wikis#
How does the glossary keep names consistent?#
Every novel has its own glossary of characters, places and terms. When a chapter translates, the AI uses known entries as hints and adds any new ones it finds, so names stay stable across the whole novel. See Glossary Basics.
Can I set my own name for a character?#
Yes. Personal translations apply instantly, only for you, and need no approval. Open the term's dialog and choose Set personal translation. See Personal Translations.
Who can generate wikis?#
Generating a new wiki is a $25 tier feature, with a monthly allowance. Anyone can read an existing wiki. See Wikis.
Account and Patreon#
How do I create an account?#
Click Login and sign in with Patreon. A paid subscription isn't required. A free account already gives you bookmarks, reading history, and community features. See Account and Patreon.
I subscribed on Patreon but my tier benefits aren't showing up.#
Make sure you're logged in with the same Patreon account you subscribed with. If your tier still looks wrong after logging out and back in, tell us on Discord. See Account and Patreon.
Why was I logged out?#
Your session is a cookie that lasts up to 30 days and renews while you're active, so being logged out usually means the cookie expired, or your browser cleared cookies or site data. Log back in with Patreon and it picks up where it left off. See Troubleshooting.
Community#
How do I report a bug or a problem with a novel?#
Use the Report option in a novel's more menu for issues with that novel, or reach us on Discord for anything else. See Contact and Support.
Can I get notified about new chapters or new novels?#
Yes, and it's free. Bookmark a novel as Reading or Plan to Read for the daily library digest, and save a Browse search with Notify me for a daily digest of matching new novels. See Notifications.
How do XP and levels work?#
Reading each day, accepted glossary corrections, and approved novel reports earn XP, which sets your level next to your username. Reviews count toward achievements but not XP. See Levels and Achievements.
