Background / History
Xia Liang died on Earth and physically transmigrated to Douluo Continent, where his twenty-five-year-old body regressed into that of a six-year-old. Old Jack found him in Holy Soul Village, and Xia Liang spent five months learning the local language from Old Jack’s family. Once he learned the identities of Tang Hao and Tang San, he left the village to avoid exposing his unusual origins and abilities. 1
In Guowan Village, the old village chief allowed Xia Liang to join the Martial Soul Awakening ceremony. He awakened black-purple ribs as an incomplete Skeleton Martial Soul and possessed Innate Level Five Soul Power. Although Su Yuntao classified it as a Crippled Martial Soul, Xia Liang concluded that its ribcage was only an initial form that could eventually develop into a complete skeleton. 2
He entered Nuoding Primary Soul Master Academy as a work-study student, cultivated through meditation, and tested his Martial Soul’s exceptional defensive hardness. Xia Liang later sought field experience with Teacher Mo’s Mercenary Group, using his Ghost Fire to locate Soul Beasts and obtain rings suited to completing his skeletal form. 4 16 20
His Ice-Fire Body Tempering with the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot corrected the imbalance between his flesh and skeletal development. The process restored his healthier appearance, granted immunity to poisons and ice-fire energy, and evolved his Martial Soul into the Necromancer Skeleton. 55 56
Appearance
Xia Liang initially appears as a six-year-old boy whose compressed, strengthened bones cause physical discomfort. After gaining his first Soul Ring, his skeletal development outpaces his flesh, leaving him pale, gaunt, and corpse-like. Ice-Fire Body Tempering later restores a healthy complexion and delicate features; he appears around twenty despite being younger. 1 19 48 56
- His first-ring transformation causes pale skin, darkened eye sockets, a withered expression, and a lifeless demeanor. 19
- His restored body is neither thin nor heavy, with a normal human appearance and healthy complexion. 55 56
- His Martial Soul manifests in black-purple bone and Ghost Fire, eventually forming an enormous upper-body skeleton with bright yellow eyes. 69 100
Personality
Xia Liang is methodical and opportunistic. He relies on his knowledge of the original story’s people, Soul Beasts, locations, and treasures to choose his cultivation path, acquire resources, and avoid dangerous figures such as Tang Hao. 1 3 82
He is highly secretive about abilities that could expose his Undead Attribute. He initially presents Black-Purple Ghost Fire as a fire attribute, hides the Bone Dragon External Soul Bone from Heaven Dou Royal Academy’s commissioners, and uses caution when collecting Soul Bones. 16 67 83
His determination to complete his Martial Soul is paired with growing ruthlessness. In Death Canyon, he decides that enemies who refuse to let him escape must be eliminated, burns the bodies of the Spirit Hall pursuers he kills, and devours spirits to conceal evidence and increase his power. He recognizes that this practice risks turning him into a fallen Soul Master. 110 112
Abilities & Skills
Necromancer Skeleton Martial Soul
An evolving external Tool Martial Soul based on Xia Liang’s own skeletal structure. It began as a ribcage classified as crippled, then progressed into the Necromancer Skeleton and ultimately an Ultimate Martial Soul. 2 55 56 132
- Its base ribs are harder than stone and can shield Xia Liang from impacts, though gaps between ribs remain vulnerable. 4
- It evolved from ribs into a skull-and-spine form, then an eight-meter complete upper-body skeleton with two arms. 55 69
- It can form Bone Transformation Susanoo without Martial Soul Possession because it is a Tool Martial Soul. 136
- Its later attributes include Undead, Dark, spiritual, and Space; its Dark Attribute develops into Ultimate Dark. 98 129 136
- The Martial Soul’s physical development and Xia Liang’s bodily skeleton directly affect each other. 55 89
Bone Transformation Susanoo
Xia Liang’s signature skeletal combat form, modeled after his intended progression toward a complete Susanoo-like construct. 3 20
- Upper-Body Form — manifests a skeletal upper body with giant hands for defense, restraint, and close combat. 69 70
- Armed Form — Ring Fusion adds bone scales, armor, horns, and Iron-backed Demonic Scorpion carapace. 100
- Half-Body Humanoid Form — develops dense flesh, meridians, and a more human shape after the fourth Soul Ring. 103 130
- Giant Form — reaches a twenty-meter half-human form after the sixth Soul Ring. 130
- Can use Finger Bullet, Iron Bone Blade, skeletal arms, Ghost Fire, and the Ten-Fist Sword in battle. 70 100
Undead Domain
A talent domain awakened when Necromancer Skeleton gains royal blood. It grants dominion over undead beings and reinforces Xia Liang’s death-aligned abilities. 56
- Suppresses and damages enemies’ souls. 56
- Can control undead and seal the soul of the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger, preventing resentment from remaining in its Soul Ring. 56 130
- Can combine with the Slaughter God’s Domain, merging killing intent and death qi into an effect likened to the God of Death’s light. 143
Black-Purple Ghost Fire and Gastly
Ghost Fire is an Undead-attribute manifestation that Xia Liang can direct independently. His shaped skull constructs are called Anomalous Skeleton Heads, or Gastly. 16 22 27
- At Level 10, he can summon up to twenty Ghost Fires if he controls Soul Power consumption. 16
- Ghost Fire has negligible direct combat power and can be dispersed by external force or sunlight. 16
- It has no stated distance limit, can scout independently, track targets, explore hazardous areas, and help locate Soul Beasts. 16
- Gastly can survive indefinitely without an energy supply if kept away from sunlight and strongly yang objects. 60
Netherworld Transformation
Xia Liang’s first Soul Skill, obtained from the Netherworld Ghost Bear. 19
- Increases his strength and defense by 50%. 19
- Grows a complete Skeleton Right Arm from the ribcage, allowing powerful grasping and crushing attacks. 19 20
- Its repeated use is implied to contribute to the Martial Soul’s natural right-arm growth. 69
Iron Bone
Xia Liang’s second Soul Skill, which reinforces the rigid properties of his Skeleton Martial Soul. 27
- Condenses thread-like energy around skeletal limbs, producing a fleshy but steel-hard appearance. 27
- Greatly increases bone hardness and permits weapon-like transformations for combat. 27
- When combined with Netherworld Transformation, it allows him to contend with three-ring Soul Elders despite being Level 23. 27
Spatial Techniques
The Bone Dragon Soul Ring and related External Soul Bone grant Xia Liang limited Space-attribute abilities. 100 114
- Spatial Jump / Teleportation — enables abrupt repositioning and escape from opponents. 100 110
- Long-range Spatial Teleportation — performed through the Bone Dragon Dagger. 114
- Bone Dragon Thrust — transforms his left hand into a Black Dragon Claw and fires a corrosive black bone projectile. 141
Demonic Eye Soul Seizure and Soul Sealing Bone Transformation
Abilities acquired through the Red-Eyed Treant King’s Soul Ring and External Spinal Soul Bone. 89 90
- Demonic Eye Soul Seizure raises his mental power by two levels at great Soul Power cost and enables Undead Possession. 90
- Soul Sealing Bone Transformation absorbs external bones from defeated Soul Beasts to strengthen the Necromancer Skeleton. 90
- The External Spinal Soul Bone becomes part of Bone Transformation Susanoo and retains Dark and Undead Attributes. 89
Dark Territory
Xia Liang’s fifth Soul Skill, inherited from the Shadow Lord. 115 120
- Allows his body to become transparent and intangible, letting physical attacks pass through him. 120
- Can be followed by an evasive disappearance or spatial repositioning. 120
Reverse Life-Death Arena
Xia Liang’s sixth Soul Skill. It reconstructs a dead target from soul fragments and Ghost Fire within his Spiritual World. 131
- Temporarily restores a target’s body and soul state for battle or sparring. 131
- Xia Liang uses it to summon Tang Hao in his peak Level 89 state. 131
- The summoned Tang Hao is resentful but compelled to obey Xia Liang’s control. 131
Ring Fusion Talent
Xia Liang can fuse Soul Ring energies to amplify Bone Transformation Susanoo beyond his normal output. 60 100
- Fusing his first three rings unlocks the Armed Form. 100
- Fusing all five rings produces a twelve-meter armored half-body form. 129
- Ring Fusion is central to his ability to fight opponents above his cultivation rank. 100 129
Clairvoyance and Bone Observation
After consuming the Autumn Water Gazing Dew and later evolving spiritual attributes, Xia Liang develops powerful visual and spiritual perception. 66 98 99
- Can see through objects and observe Soul Power circulating through meridians. 66
- Reaches the Bone Observation Realm, allowing him to perceive the skeletons of living beings and identify possible nascent Soul Bones. 109
- His spiritual power doubles after Necromancer Skeleton gains its spiritual attribute. 99
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Three-colored Ring — top-grade storage Soul Tool with separate compartments for weapons and defensive gear, food, and daily necessities. 27
- Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone — expands his meridians, grants healing and flight, and causes further growth in Necromancer Skeleton’s arms. 82 83
- Bone Dragon External Left Palm Bone — an External Soul Bone absorbed from the Bone Dragon; enables Black Dragon Claw and Bone Dragon Thrust. 67 141
- Susanoo’s Bow / Susanoo’s Claw — transformed from the Eight Spider Lances External Soul Bone; serves as both a ranged weapon and a devouring claw. 86 98
