Carlos welcomed Louis into the Divine Eye Pirates, crossed blades with Mihawk, and survived a clash with Garp before leading his crew to Sky Island. There, he forced Gan Fall to accept the pirates’ demands and guide them around the islands.

• Carlos accepted Louis into the crew as its sniper, and Shiryu helped him eliminate the families and officials tied to his revenge.
• Carlos entered Alubarna’s royal tombs and photographed the Poneglyph recording Pluton’s location.
• Carlos met Mihawk at sea, invited him aboard, and later sparred with him until Mihawk called off their fight.
• The Divine Eye Pirates reached Jaya Island, where Carlos met Cricket and sought help finding a Knock Up Stream to Sky Island.
• Garp confronted Carlos on Jaya, and Carlos used his Susanoo and meteors to delay him before escaping to the Underworld Moon.
• Carlos and the crew rode a Knock Up Stream to the White-White Sea, fought giant octopuses, and confronted Angel Island’s patrol soldiers.
• Carlos seized Gan Fall and demanded a map, access to Apadoa, an end to his title as god, and local specialties, and Gan Fall agreed to cooperate.

Carlos secured a World Government agreement to establish the Nations of the Black Night, then traveled to Marine Headquarters to collect Seastone and visit Impel Down. He clashed with Momousagi and Chaton on the way and began provoking Marines at Marineford.

• Carlos found the young Enel on Bika, left him the Bison Model Ox-Ox Fruit and a note, then recovered the Rumble-Rumble Fruit and threatened Bika’s people over their treatment of wingless residents.
• Carlos led the Divine Eye Pirates through Apadoa’s ruins, where they shared treasure, made a Poneglyph rubbing, and covered ruins with elaborate carvings.
• Carlos negotiated with the World Government, rejected its initial payment and summons clauses, and secured a thirty-billion-Berry agreement with limits on when the Marines could summon his crew.
• Carlos required the World Government to provide Seastone for the Mingyue, a propulsion expert, and six corpses from Infinite Hell, then announced plans to form the Nations of the Black Night.
• Carlos boarded a Marine warship for Marine Headquarters, hypnotized its crew into gambling, and fought Momousagi and Chaton after provoking them.
• Carlos defeated Chaton with Tsukuyomi and escaped Momousagi’s attacks before reaching Marineford, where he wore a Navy Cloak of Justice and demanded a tour of Headquarters.
• Carlos met Kong and Sengoku, evaded Kong’s attack with Kamui, and toured Marine Headquarters with Momousagi.
• Carlos watched Zephyr train recruits, teased Momousagi, and blocked her sword strike, cracking the training-ground floor.

Carlos established the United States of Night, completed the Six Paths of Pain, and led the Divine Eye Pirates into the New World. After choosing Sun Moon Island as their foothold, he fought Golden Lion Shiki, who offered to help him in exchange for a closer partnership.

• Carlos took six prisoners from Impel Down, including Douglas Bullet, and transformed them into the Six Paths of Pain, giving Deva Path Pain the Rumble-Rumble Fruit.
• Carlos returned to the West Sea, reorganized the Black Alliance as the United States of Night, and became its first King after the World Government recognized the nation.
• The World Government granted the Divine Eye Pirates Letters of Marque, and Carlos prepared his crew and the United States of Night’s personnel for the voyage to the New World.
• Carlos departed with the Six Paths and more than fourteen hundred people, fought off pirate attacks, and used Animal Path Pain’s Sea Serpent to speed the Nether Moon across the Calm Belt.
• Carlos chose Sun Moon Island, controlled by Sirius Kane Chaos, as the Divine Eye Pirates’ foothold and fought off the pirate crews pursuing his ship.
• Golden Lion Shiki confronted Carlos, who summoned the Six Paths of Pain, and the Pains overwhelmed Shiki in their sparring match, and Carlos ended the fight without killing him.
• Carlos and Shiki shared a banquet and discussed their ambitions, and Shiki offered to help Carlos establish a New World foothold in return for a deeper partnership.

Carlos joined forces with Golden Lion, Kaido, and Big Mom to destroy the Sirius Pirates and claim their territory. After the allies divided their spoils, the story shifted to Red Count Raid, who obtained and ate the Bat-Bat Fruit: Vampire Form.

• Carlos rejected Golden Lion’s offer of territory, chose Sun Moon Island, and agreed to destroy the Sirius Pirates with Golden Lion’s help.
• Deva Path Pain defeated Wolverine and wiped out the fleet pursuing the Underworld Moon with Planetary Devastation.
• The Divine Eye Pirates invaded Sun Moon Island, defeated the Sirius Pirates’ defenders, and captured Black Wolf King as Sirius Chaos began preparing a response.
• Carlos fought Kaido, who agreed to join the campaign after their battle, while Golden Lion and Big Mom also committed to the attack.
• Carlos and the allied captains launched a coordinated assault on Sirius territory, and Carlos killed War Wolf while Sirius Chaos fled to face the others.
• Kaido, Golden Lion, Big Mom, and Carlos fought and killed Sirius Chaos, then divided the Sirius Pirates’ treasury and destroyed Sirius Island.
• The allied crews defeated the remaining Sirius Pirates and divided their territory, while Carlos kept Sun Moon Island and Qingsang Island for the Divine Eye Pirates.
• Red Count Raid found the Bat-Bat Fruit: Vampire Form in an underground chamber, ate it, mastered its abilities, and escaped as a swarm of bats.
