Background / History
Hongjun cultivated at Jade Capital Mountain beneath the damaged Jade Plate of Creation. While meditating, he sensed that an unidentified opportunity had been taken from him. His calculations revealed only that the loss concerned events after his future sainthood; unable to pierce the obscured heavenly secrets, he dispatched his Evil Corpse to investigate the Primordial World. 4
The investigation led to Cheng Yue's South Sea island. Hongjun's corpse incarnation was caught in Cheng Yue's formation and forcibly expelled, prompting Hongjun to investigate personally. Unable to perceive Cheng Yue's cultivation and warned of danger by the Heavenly Dao, he treated Cheng Yue as a possible Chaos Demon God. Cheng Yue's subsequent attack nearly killed him and injured the Heavenly Dao. 6 8 9 10
Seeing opportunity in the Heavenly Dao's weakened state, Hongjun immediately returned to Jade Capital Mountain and proved the Dao as a Saint. He established Purple Cloud Palace in Chaos and invited those with destiny to hear his lecture three thousand years later. 10
Hongjun later learned that Yangmei had already reached Primordial Unity and was capable of effortlessly brushing away his Spiritual Treasures. Despite this setback, Hongjun resolved to continue his plan of using the Heavenly Dao to replace the Great Dao. 12 13
Appearance
Hongjun appears as an elderly Daoist with a solemn, traditional bearing. During cultivation, purple energy surrounds him and a golden halo of merit rotates behind his head. 4
- White hair and a long white beard. 4
- Usually seen seated on a prayer mat at Jade Capital Mountain. 4
- Keeps the damaged Jade Plate of Creation suspended above his head while cultivating or calculating. 4
- His corpse incarnation resembles him, but wears black robes and has a black beard. 4
Personality
Hongjun is intensely ambitious. Before becoming a Saint, he explicitly sought to unify the Primordial World and pursue his Great Dao; afterward, he continued planning to perfect the Heavenly Dao and ultimately advance further. 4 24
He is calculating and opportunistic, as shown when he exploited the Heavenly Dao's injury to prove the Dao and when he repeatedly manipulated the Witch-Demon conflict to maintain a desired greater trend. 10 50 128
Despite his authority, Hongjun is deeply wary of Cheng Yue. Cheng Yue's formation, the Wooden Tokens held by Cheng Yue's disciples, and Cheng Yue's ability to disrupt established destiny all make Hongjun reluctant to escalate their conflict directly. 8 101 128
Abilities & Skills
Dao Calculation
Hongjun can deduce heavenly secrets through the Jade Plate of Creation, though major variables and Cheng Yue-related events can obscure his calculations.
- Identified that his stolen opportunity was connected to post-sainthood events, but could not determine its nature. 4
- Calculated Nuwa's great luck and her broken master-disciple fate with him after catching her taking treasures from Purple Cloud Palace. 14
- Failed to identify the force altering the trajectories of the stars and disrupting Di Jun's Heavenly Emperor authority. 37
Three Corpses Incarnations
Before proving the Dao, Hongjun practiced the Three Corpses method and could separate incarnations from himself.
- Sent his black-robed Evil Corpse to investigate his lost opportunity. 4
- Reabsorbed the injured Evil Corpse after hearing its report on Cheng Yue's South Sea island. 8
- Sought to merge the Three Corpses before becoming a Saint in order to begin sainthood at a higher realm. 4
Saint Authority
As a Saint, Hongjun can impose large-scale restrictions on cultivators and reshape the battlefield.
- Froze the Witch Clan and Demon Race during their war, forcing both sides to cease fighting. 76
- Divided the Witch Clan into twelve sealed regions and confined the Demon Race within the Heavenly Court for ten thousand years. 92
- Opened a Spatial Rift to remove Yuanshi from Nuwa's incoming Wooden Token attack. 22
- Used a seized Wooden Token to interrupt the formation of the Pangu Axe, though Pangu Phantom still severely injured him. 49
Heavenly Dao Manipulation
Hongjun works with the Heavenly Dao to direct the Primordial World's development toward his intended outcome.
- Planned to delay dealing with the “thread of vitality” until the Heavenly Dao was complete, then absorb it into the Heavenly Dao. 24
- Targeted Houtu's transformation into Reincarnation to prevent the Witch Clan from assembling the Twelve Capital Celestial Evil-Slaying Formation. 50 67
- Created and sent Lost Souls into the Six Paths of Reincarnation to influence the Human Race's development. 113
- Helped the Demon Race bypass its seal so Taiyi Golden Immortals could descend and hunt Humans for souls to forge the Witch-Slaying Sword. 128
Dao Preaching and Sect Leadership
Hongjun uses Purple Cloud Palace as the center of his teachings and the distribution of Heavenly Dao opportunities.
- Preached the Quasi-Sage method and later explained three paths to proving the Dao: force, merit, and severing the Three Corpses. 53
- Accepted the Three Pure Ones as disciples and granted them Primordial Violet Qi. 53
- Accepted Zhunti and Jieyin as nominal disciples because of the West's karmic debt. 53
- Appointed Eastern King Duke and Western Queen Mother as leaders of the male and female Immortals, respectively. 37

- Kongtong Seal — Spiritual Treasure bestowed upon a Human Race Divine Infant intended to become a Human Race leader. 113

- Heavenly Dao — collaborator and source of guidance. Hongjun seeks to perfect it, use its authority, and eventually leverage it toward replacing the Great Dao. 24 50 259
- Nuwa — intended disciple whose master-disciple fate was broken; later an outspoken opponent who repeatedly threatens Hongjun with Cheng Yue's Wooden Tokens. 14 101

- Pingxin — opponent in the struggle over the Six Paths of Reincarnation and the Earthly Dao; she rejects Hongjun's demand to control her path. 100 101
