Background / History

League of Assassins training

Allen accidentally activated his system while escaping Arkham Asylum, selected the Thief class and the League of Assassins faction, and was transported to an ancient League training base in 1981. He entered the organization as a trainee under Nyssa al Ghul’s supervision, immediately antagonizing both Nyssa and Talia with his disruptive behavior. 2 3

His endurance during Nyssa’s training earned reluctant respect, while the system rapidly raised his Thief level and supplied stealth and assassination-oriented abilities. Ra’s al Ghul later sent Allen, Bruce Wayne, and Oliver Queen to Silent Hill to retrieve the Blade of Redemption, partly hoping Allen’s provocations would become someone else’s problem. 3 5 6

Wartime espionage

After leaving the League period, Allen became a cleaner at the Soviet Weapons Development Bureau through Hydra’s covert assistance. He absorbed knowledge from discarded blueprints, interacted with weapons specialist Dr. Wilson, and eventually entered S.H.I.E.L.D. as a technical asset. 35 36 39

Allen operated as a triple agent, reporting to S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra, and the Soviet side. He later exploited his reputation and Mind Storm control to take over Hydra under the self-appointed title Hydra Captain, while placing Stryker, the Winter Soldier program, Natasha Romanoff, and Arnim Zola under observation. 43 115

Gotham and the Bat-Family

Allen entered the Bat-Family after overpowering Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Batgirl, and Bruce Wayne; Bruce accepted him following their confrontation. He also claimed to be Damian Wayne’s father, beginning a persistently hostile and confusing dynamic with Damian. 19

As Funny Bat, Allen formed the Comedy Troupe and recruited Edward Nigma, Oswald Cobblepot, Arthur Fleck, Nanaue, and other unconventional allies. During Gotham’s vampire and Court of Owls crises, he created the Midnight Tyrants, used criminal networks against the Court, and forcibly turned Councilman Magellan into an informant. 84 143 150

Magic and cosmic ventures

Kamar-Taj recognized Allen as the second Sorcerer Supreme and as a magically gifted candidate linked to Agamotto’s succession. He later joined the Hermes Church, gained access to its library, and began creating spells of his own. 198 199 224

In the Void, Allen established himself as captain of the Guardians of the Galaxy. He defeated and recruited a young Thanos, accepted Uxas into the team, and later worked alongside Frank Castle, Yondu, Phantasm, Hela, and others on interstellar bounty missions. 256 257 269

Dark Knights and later multiversal conflicts

Allen defeated multiple Dark Knights, including Dawnbreaker and Merciless, and used Lantern powers, summoned entities, and specialized equipment to counter threats that overwhelmed the Justice League. 168 169 171

He later returned to paranormal investigations, trained Bruce and Barry against Hell’s invasion, became a Shaman at maximum level, and traveled through further worlds including the Time War and the Warhammer universe. 350 355 433 443 445

Appearance

Allen is an Eastern-featured young man who appears to be in his early twenties despite having lived and traveled across multiple eras. He commonly wears a hospital gown, though he frequently adopts elaborate costumes, Battle Suits, and stolen uniforms to match a new identity. 58 199 223 366

Personality

Allen is flamboyant, provocative, and relentlessly self-aggrandizing. He habitually introduces himself with exaggerated titles, treats dangerous situations as opportunities for performance, and refuses to sacrifice his “style” even when doing so would be safer. 39 43 169

His erratic public behavior causes many characters to assume he is mentally ill. Allen later claimed that he deliberately performed mental instability to secure an early retirement in Arkham, though his conduct remains consistently unpredictable even in private. 288

Behind the theatrics, Allen is observant and calculating. He identifies weaknesses, manipulates hostile organizations from within, and favors humiliating or unconventional solutions over direct confrontation. He can also be ruthlessly coercive, as demonstrated against Hydra, the Court of Owls, and opposing heroes. 115 150 327

Allen nevertheless protects allies and civilians when crises escalate. He saved Amazon Island, rescued Uxas from execution, forged equipment for Bruce and Barry, and repeatedly organizes teams to confront threats beyond ordinary heroes. 169 288 352
