Background / History

Long before the events surrounding Raven, the Emperor fought the Void Dragon beneath Mars and imprisoned it in a dimensional labyrinth rather than killing it. Its influence accelerated humanity’s technological development. During a later civilizational decline, he assumed the identity of Moravec, studied Warp-enhanced machinery and soul encoding, founded the precursor to the Adeptus Mechanicus, and left behind Moravec’s Vault. 11

The Emperor’s original objective was to unite humanity, gather resources, construct the Webway, and isolate humanity from the Warp. Raven’s account of the predetermined future describes the Emperor nearly becoming the Dark King by devouring Warp power during his final battle with Horus; he willingly relinquished that power because godhood would have destroyed humanity. 3

At the end of the Unification Wars, he executed the Chaos-corrupted Morransen and discovered the raven sculpture that became Raven. Though initially hostile to what he believed was a Warp entity, he considered Raven’s offer after learning that humanity’s destined future ended in failure. 1 2

Appearance

The Emperor is an imposing, radiant figure whose normal form is nearly four meters tall. He has black hair and black eyes, wears golden armor, and bears a thorn-like crown. When crossing into the Super God Universe under its initial restrictions, he is reduced to roughly two meters tall and dressed in ordinary clothing. 1 4

He is intensely pragmatic and can be ruthless when he judges it necessary. He executes corrupted enemies, seals dangerous knowledge from Mars, employs martial law, and regards alliances as conditional on benefit rather than sentiment. 1 19 109 110
