Background / History

Saber Alter originates when King Arthur is summoned as Shinji Matou's Servant during the accelerated Holy Grail War. Shinji's malice corrupts her into Saber Alter, leaving her contemptuous of Zouken Matou and focused on strength, food, and battle 42.

Supplied with nearly limitless magical energy by Shinji, she defeats the Lion King in Fuyuki after a prolonged clash. Though she kills the Lion King rather than permit Zouken to exploit another version of herself, she treats Zouken with open disdain 52 53.

After fighting Aoko, Touko, Fujino, and Sakura, Saber Alter follows an instinctive call to Mt. Ryudou. There, Sajyo Ayaka offers her a new contract and a far greater magical-energy supply; Saber Alter accepts immediately and clears the mountain of anyone Ayaka does not recognize as an ally 56.

Following the war, she disappears while describing her journey as boring 61. She later returns alongside Black Saber, launching a destructive campaign through France and Britain before leading forces against Paris and Camelot 116 122 227.

Appearance

Saber Alter is usually seen in heavy armor and carries Excalibur. Her armor is frequently damaged or shattered in high-intensity battles, while her transformed Vortigern state gives her a distinctly draconic appearance 190 242.

Saber Alter is blunt, aggressive, and governed by a might-makes-right outlook. She dismisses those without power as “trash,” has little patience for plans that delay combat, and seeks stronger opponents whenever possible 56 226.

Despite her tyranny, she is not portrayed as mindlessly cruel. She despises weakness but does not actively prey on the weak; she pursues her own desires without becoming enslaved to them, treating power as a means rather than an end 233. She is also capable of recognizing worthy opponents, including Gawain and Scathach, even when she intends to defeat them 117 228.

Her pride is easily provoked. She becomes furious at perceived humiliation, rivalry with alternate selves, and remarks about her appearance, but she also displays loyalty to Black Saber and is willing to place herself in danger to protect her 52 228 229.
