Background & History

Irisviel was created by the Einzbern Family to serve as the Lesser Grail. Though she had accepted that this role would ultimately end in her death, her life with Kiritsugu and Illya gave her a reason to resist that fate. When Fu Yuan proposed securing a new body through the Aozaki Family, she initially hesitated because of the likely cost to the Einzberns, but ultimately chose the possibility of living for her daughter. 2 4

After Fu Yuan broke her out of the room where she had been confined for six years, Irisviel travelled with him and Illya to Fuyuki City. The contract with the Aozaki Family was completed, resolving the immediate obstacle to her survival and allowing her to look toward a future beyond her intended purpose. 5 7

Touko Aozaki later performed the promised ritual: Irisviel's soul was transferred into a living puppet body, while her original body became a soulless puppet. Fu Yuan noted that her resulting life force was weakened, but still far greater than it would have been under her original fate. 18

In Fuyuki, Irisviel became increasingly involved in ordinary family life, arranging Illya's schooling and eagerly taking outings with Illya and Fu Yuan. She and Fu Yuan also brought the orphaned Asagami Fujino into their household, with Irisviel presenting Fujino as a new elder sister to Illya and Sakura. 7 24

During the Holy Grail conflict, the Lesser Grail began leaking black, solid Magic, leaving Irisviel uncertain how to respond. She remained concerned for Kiritsugu even after their relationship became strained, later urging him not to carry the consequences of his fusion with Heroic Spirit Kiritsugu alone. 42 93

Appearance

Personality

Irisviel is affectionate, emotionally sincere, and strongly maternal. Her desire to survive is rooted not in the Einzbern family's ambitions, but in wanting to remain with Illya and witness her future.
