Background / History

The Heavenly Dao recognized the appearance of the Fragment of the Heavenly Dao's Authority when Mo Wen bound the Thunder Tribulation Divine Palace. It announced the establishment of Transformation Thunder Tribulations for the myriad races: successful transcenders could temper their bodies, reduce karmic debt, and receive Heavenly Dao Blessings 2.

Although Transformation Thunder Tribulation originated as its authority, the Heavenly Dao could not directly determine or forcibly command its controller. When Taiqing and Yuanshi petitioned for a tribulation, it conveyed the request to Mo Wen but left the final decision to him 11. Hongjun likewise could not investigate the controller's identity through the Heavenly Dao, and consequently enfeoffed the unknown controller as the Primordial Era Thunder Tribulation Heavenly Lord 36.

Its relationship with the Thunder Tribulation Heavenly Lord became increasingly strained. The Heavenly Dao attempted to redirect a tribulation in order to hinder the Four Symbols Divine Tree's transformation and later strengthened the Black Lotus's tribulation with Purple Firmament Lightning 50 94. When Mo Wen protected the Twelfth Grade World-Destroying Black Lotus against its will, the Heavenly Dao could neither reclaim Transformation Thunder Tribulation control nor locate Mo Wen, so it issued an imperial decree ordering the Saints to suppress the Black Lotus instead 95 96.

After being summoned by Hongjun, the Heavenly Dao publicly retained Mo Wen's control over Transformation Thunder Tribulations, merely admonishing him and warning the Saints and Primordial Era powerhouses against provoking him 105. It subsequently negotiated directly with Mo Wen: it requested the return of Thunder Tribulation Control, accepted his refusal, and issued a decree protecting him from interference 106.

The Heavenly Dao later acknowledged Thunder Punishment as another Fragment of its Authority and granted Mo Wen the title Thunder Punishment Heavenly Lord 136. Before entering slumber amid the Great Calamity, it entrusted part of its origin power to the Transformation Thunder Tribulation and Thunder Punishment authorities, enabling their use without its will's direct involvement 150.

As Hongjun moved against the Primordial Era, the Heavenly Dao stripped him of the Dao Ancestor title and ordered his imprisonment 179. Following Hongjun's defeat, it awakened, established the Heavenly Dao Trial Thunder Tribulation for peak Great Luo Golden Immortals seeking to enter the Quasi-Saint realm, and elevated Mo Wen to Thunder Tribulation Supreme 185.

The Heavenly Dao manifests through impersonal natural and metaphysical phenomena rather than a fixed body.
