Background / History

Hongjun intervened when the Witch and Demon races were nearing a war of annihilation, using his authority to impose a one-Yuan period during which neither side could easily begin such a conflict. The resulting peace allowed the Myriad Races to develop while Hongjun prepared for the coming Great Calamity 1.

After merging with the Heavenly Dao, Hongjun became its incarnation but found himself controlled by it rather than able to control it. He retained his consciousness through the Creation Jade Disc and began seeking a path to transcend—or replace—the Heavenly Dao 33 143.

The emergence of the Transformation Thunder Tribulation frustrated him because the Heavenly Dao repeatedly blocked his attempts to investigate its controller. Although he publicly declared that the controller was chosen by Heaven and enfeoffed him as the Thunder Tribulation Heavenly Lord, Hongjun intended to uncover and ultimately gain leverage over this new authority 33 36.

The Heavenly Dao later disclosed that the controller was a transforming Tribulation Lightning Spirit hidden within the Primordial Era. Hongjun could not obtain the controller's precise location, even after directly probing the matter 39.

Personality

Hongjun is calculating, patient, and intensely ambitious. He initially presents himself as an impartial Dao Ancestor concerned with stability, but privately treats the Great Calamity, the Saints, and the Myriad Races as pieces in his attempt to surpass the Heavenly Dao 40 143 172.

He is highly protective of his authority and reputation. When blamed for the Transformation Thunder Tribulations, he publicly distances himself from them; when the Saints petition him to punish their controller, he exploits the Heavenly Dao's descent to avoid bearing responsibility himself 33 36 104.

When his plans fail, Hongjun becomes openly ruthless. He attempts to seize the Heavenly Dao Source, abandons Yang Mei during their escape attempt, takes control of his disciples' treasures, and seeks to blood sacrifice the Saints and Primordial Era itself 168 176 180 181.

Abilities & Skills

Heavenly Dao Integration

As the Heavenly Dao's incarnation, Hongjun can invoke its might and act as its spokesperson.

  • Drew upon Heavenly Dao power to enforce the Witch–Demon truce and intervene in major Primordial Era conflicts 1 66.
  • Could manifest Dharma bodies across the Primordial Era and issue decrees in the Dao Ancestor's name 36 66.
  • Was nevertheless constrained by the Heavenly Dao, which could prevent him from acting and ultimately strip him of his title and authority 143 178.

Immortal Dao

Hongjun possesses extensive command of Immortal Dao techniques and formations.

  • Condenses an Immortal Dao Sword capable of attacking the Thirty-Six Grade Chaos Thunder Lotus 169.
  • Created an Immortal Bridge from the Creation Immortal Realm to facilitate escape from the Chaos Thunder Domain 176.
  • Used Immortal Dao chains and a grand formation to target and refine the Heavenly Dao Source 168.
  • Formed an Immortal Dao Furnace to restrain and exploit the Six Saints through the treasures he had bestowed upon them 181 184.

Law Bodies and Self-Detachment

Hongjun can operate through Law Bodies rather than exposing his true body.

  • Entered the Chaos Thunder Domain using a Law Body, misleading Yang Mei about the risk he was taking 176 177.
  • After one Law Body was annihilated, his four remaining Law Bodies merged to re-evolve his physical form 177.
  • Used a self-detachment technique to evade an attack from the Thunder Punishment Law Body 182.

Chaos Earthworm True Form

Hongjun can transform into a colossal Chaos Earthworm phantom.

  • Used this form to confront the Heavenly Dao directly after his imprisonment decree 179 180.
  • Attempted to consume the convergence of Heavenly Dao power and destroy the Primordial Era for a blood sacrifice 180 182.
  • The form was shattered by the combined assault of the Thunder Devil God phantom and the Black-Gold Thunder Spear 183.

Thunder Punishment

Hongjun is listed as capable of unleashing Thunder Punishment despite having no recorded karma or merit on the Thunder Punishment List 133.

  • Used the Thunder Punishment Divine Spear to intercept Yang Mei's Space Blade 161.
  • His own attempts to manipulate thunder-based authority were ultimately eclipsed by Mo Wen's Chaos Divine Thunder and Thunder Tribulation authority 167 178.

Strategic Manipulation and Blood Sacrifice

Hongjun repeatedly builds long-term schemes around conflict, sacrifice, and hidden agents.

  • Summoned Yang Mei to restrain the Thunder Tribulation Heavenly Lord while he pursued his opportunity to transcend the Heavenly Dao 160.
  • Allied with Yang Mei to seize the Heavenly Dao Source and Chaos treasures, then abandoned him during their attempted escape 167 176.
  • Attempted to use the Six Saints and the Primordial Era's living beings as a blood sacrifice to resist the Heavenly Dao 181 182.
  • Continued employing hidden pawns after his defeat, including a formation that gathered battlefield flesh, souls, and true spirits 196 208.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

Relationships

  • Mo Wen / Thunder Tribulation Heavenly Lord — Primary adversary. Hongjun first investigated the hidden controller, then allied with Yang Mei to seize Mo Wen's Heavenly Dao Source and Chaos treasures; Mo Wen repeatedly defeated his Law Bodies and thwarted his schemes 36 168 177 184.
  • Yang Mei — An old acquaintance and temporary ally. Hongjun summoned him to restrain Mo Wen, promised assistance in taking treasures, then attempted to leave him behind in the Chaos Thunder Domain 160 167 176.
  • Taiqing, Yuanshi, Tongtian, Jieyin, Zhunti, and Nuwa — His Six Saint disciples. Hongjun taught them and bestowed treasures upon them, but they refused to support his rebellion against the Heavenly Dao; he then tried to use their treasures and bodies in his blood-sacrifice plan 179 180 181.
  • Tongtian — Hongjun's disciple. Hongjun once prevented him from challenging Yang Mei, warning that Yang Mei's strength was beyond Tongtian's ability to face 162.
  • Di Jun and Taiyi — Demon Race leaders who initially sought Hongjun's intervention against the Thunder Tribulation Heavenly Lord. Hongjun later used the Demon Race conflict and its casualties as part of his hidden schemes 104 194 211.

Alliance with Yang Mei

Fall of the Dao Ancestor

After his Law Body is destroyed and the Creation Jade Disc is damaged, Hongjun orders the Saints to attack the Human Race. The Heavenly Dao responds by stripping him of his Dao Ancestor title and ordering him confined to Zixiao Palace 177 178.

Return and Eternal God Gate
