Background / History
Hongjun entered the Primordial World as a surviving remnant of the Chaos era. He bore a Dao Injury and initially regarded himself as an insignificant Chaos God, but escaped the Great Creation Calamity and vowed to rise above all others. The Creation Jade Disc fragments healed his injury and accelerated his cultivation. 8
At Buzhou Mountain, Hongjun encountered Taichu while unsuccessfully attempting to refine an Innate Array. He proposed that they travel together, only for Taichu to crack the array, take the Central Wuji Apricot Yellow Flag, and claim nearly every worthwhile treasure they encountered thereafter. Hongjun eventually realized Taichu had been exploiting their partnership and departed. 6
After returning to Jade Capital Mountain, Hongjun pursued spiritual treasures and cultivation with increasing ambition. He later enlightened two stubborn stones into Haotian and Yaochi, accepting them as his attendants and disciples. 8 14
Hongjun allied with Universe Ancestor, Yin Yang Old Ancestor, and Limitless Old Ancestor against Beast Emperor Shen Ni. Following Shen Ni’s fall, he became locked in the Dao-Devil Conflict with Demon Ancestor Luo Hou, surviving Luo Hou’s self-destruction and attaining sainthood fifty thousand years later. 30 31 46
As a Saint, Hongjun opened Purple Cloud Palace, preached the Dao, accepted seven disciples, distributed Primordial Purple Qi and treasures, and merged with the Heavenly Dao. His later actions increasingly centered on controlling the Primordial World’s calamities, strengthening the Heavenly Dao, and ultimately surpassing it. 46 69 70 73
Personality
Hongjun is calculating, proud, and intensely ambitious. His early pursuit of treasures stems from a belief that spiritual treasures are essential to dominance, while his later plans aim beyond mere rule of the Primordial World: he seeks to merge with, devour, and transcend the Heavenly Dao. 8 73 78
He treats alliances pragmatically. When rescuing Universe Ancestor, Hongjun deliberately spared Taowu and Taotie because he considered them potentially useful against Luo Hou, showing little concern for the casualties left behind. 25
Hongjun can also be a capable teacher and patron. He preaches to the great powers of the Primordial World, provides his disciples with treasures and methods, heals Jieyin and Zhunti, and guides them to spread the Heavenly Dao through teaching and forming connections with living beings. 47 69 70 117
His pride is especially sensitive to humiliation. Taichu’s repeated seizure of treasures, Xuan Yuan’s defeats, and Yang Mei’s rebuke all provoke anger and further schemes. Despite occasionally promising restraint, he continues searching for indirect ways to influence calamities and the Human Clan. 40 51 78 143
Abilities & Skills
Three-Corpse Dao
Hongjun created and practiced the method of severing the Good, Evil, and Self Corpses to pursue sainthood.
- Severing one corpse grants the Quasi-Sage realm; severing all three reaches the highest state beneath a Heavenly Dao Sage. 35 36 41
- The three corpse-slaying treasures must share the same root and origin, or the practitioner cannot attain sainthood. 36
- His Good Corpse manifests as a kind-faced white-robed Daoist identical to Hongjun. 36
Heavenly Dao Comprehension
After becoming a Saint and merging with the Dao, Hongjun draws strength and insight from the Heavenly Dao.
- The Creation Jade Disc enables rapid advancement through comprehending Heavenly Dao power. 77
- He can perceive events across the Primordial Wilderness through calculation and Heavenly Dao awareness. 88
- He can freeze time, incapacitate groups with a gesture, and impose restrictions to prevent karma from being incurred. 93
- His strength is amplified within the Inner Chaos, where the Heavenly Dao supports him. 83
Combat and Formations
Hongjun is an experienced combatant who fought Shen Ni, Luo Hou, Yang Mei, Xuan Yuan, and Kui Ox.
- He battled Luo Hou on equal footing at Great Luo Golden Immortal Perfection and resisted the Immortal Slaughtering Sword Formation with allied ancestors. 30 31 45
- He deploys the Merit Golden Lotus to counter Demonic Qi and uses the Creation Jade Disc against enemy attacks. 31
- He can reveal his true form and employ a Chaos Supreme Treasure when conventional techniques prove insufficient. 83
- He later kills a Golden Armor Giant with two gestures, shocking Xuan Yuan and Kui Ox with his growth. 90
Scheming and Manipulation
Hongjun regularly uses foresight, hidden arrangements, and proxies to direct events.
- He arranged for Primordial Purple Qi to enter Hong Yun’s body, placing Hong Yun at the center of later conflict. 69
- He attempted to guide the Witch and Demon Calamity to facilitate his merger with the Dao. 73
- He preserved the Eastern Duke’s True Spirit, reclaimed it from Laozi, and refined it into a puppet to influence the Human Clan’s calamity indirectly. 140 143 144
- He considers the rise of the Earth Dao a threat to the Heavenly Dao’s influence and pressures his disciples to expand their lineages. 128

- His initial desire for treasure is tied to his belief that a sufficiently good spiritual treasure can keep a cultivator undefeated against opponents of the same realm. 8

- Despite his authority, Hongjun has been defeated or humiliated by Taichu, Xuan Yuan, Kui Ox, and Yang Mei at different points in the story. 40 51 77 83
