Background / History

Trask lived with persistent timidity and inferiority rooted in dwarfism; he stood 1.35 meters tall and had long endured mockery over his height. Talia was the one person whose affection made him feel valued, accepting him for his humor and knowledge rather than his appearance. 50

At Sea Blossom Music Restaurant in Miami, Trask prepared to propose to Talia. Gu Qing's battle with Sebastian Shaw sent Shaw crashing into the restaurant, killing Talia amid the resulting explosion. Trask survived, witnessed Gu Qing's destructive power, and was left grieving with hatred toward Mutants. 50

After investigating the incident, Trask concluded that Mutant abilities came from the X-Factor and that those who awakened it were Mutants. He came to see Mutants as a hidden race that threatened humanity and devoted himself to finding a way to eradicate them. His public papers warning of the growing Mutant threat were dismissed by most academics as paranoia. 113 114
