Appearance
Saitama is a completely bald man who usually wears a yellow hero uniform and white cape. His unassuming, simple-art-style appearance often causes opponents to underestimate him. 211 237
- Yellow uniform with red gloves and a white cape. 211
- Completely bald; he is sensitive about remarks concerning his lack of hair. 215
- His clothes are frequently destroyed by powerful attacks, while his body remains unharmed. 211 218 261
Personality
Saitama is relaxed, blunt, and largely unpretentious despite being overwhelmingly powerful. He calls himself a hero “for fun,” cares about practical matters such as food and expenses, and is willing to spend time as Gu Qing's sparring partner in exchange for benefits. 211 212
His lack of challenge leaves him bored during most fights, but he becomes serious when an enemy threatens others or the Earth itself. He is also compassionate in understated ways: he accepts Genos as a student, refuses to condemn KING after learning of his fraud, and encourages KING to become genuinely stronger. 216 241 274 275
Abilities & Skills
Overwhelming Physical Strength
Saitama's strength is treated as absolute within the One-Punch Man world; Gu Qing concludes that he is effectively invincible there. 211 233
- Endured Gu Qing's sustained 500,000-horsepower attacks, Evil Slaying Path, and God-Slaying Path without bodily injury. 211
- Destroyed Sai Orochi with a single Serious Punch. 257
- Defeated Platinum Sperm after recognizing him as a worthwhile opponent. 262
- Injured a four-dimensional God with a Serious Punch, launching it across dimensions to Europa. 274
- Joined his own constructed War God in destroying the God with simultaneous Serious Punches. 275
Normal and Serious Punches
Saitama can vary the force of his Normal Punches and reserves the Serious Series for threats that demand greater output. 218 274
- Consecutive Normal Punches — overwhelmed Gu Qing's God-Slaying Path and destroyed his body in their first encounter. 211
- Double Hand Consecutive Normal Punches — blew away half of Gu Qing's body during a spar. 247
- Serious Punch — used against Gouketsu and Boros War God, Sai Orochi, Platinum Sperm, and the God. 252 257 261 274
- Serious Flip — redirected the combined Collapsing Star Roar Cannon and God-Slaying Path into outer space, also kicking Blast's teleportation portal away. 252
- Serious: Full Speed Run — exceeded light speed while carrying Gu Qing, escaping the God's time-reversal array and returning to a point before the God's arrival. 275
Durability and Endurance
Saitama remains physically unharmed by attacks that destroy his clothing and devastate the surrounding environment. 211 218 261
- Gu Qing's attacks cannot damage him even when they land repeatedly. 211 264
- Homeless Emperor's massive divine-energy bombardment destroyed his outfit but failed to injure him. 261
- Can function in space when focused on fighting, apparently without needing to consider oxygen. 275
Speed and Mobility
Saitama possesses extreme reaction speed and movement capability, though he cannot fly. 211 221
- Dodged Gu Qing's Rapid Bullet Fist and reacted fast enough to intercept Sonic's shuriken and shatter a speeding katana with his teeth. 211 221
- Reached speeds beyond light speed during his escape from the Four-Dimensional Spacetime Killing Array. 275
- Must propel himself by repeated leaps rather than flight. 211
Training Method
Saitama attributes his strength to three years of daily training and persistence. 216 218
- 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10-kilometer run every day. 218
- Ate three meals daily and sometimes had a banana for breakfast. 218
- Refused to use air conditioning in winter or summer to strengthen his willpower. 218
- His regimen cannot simply be copied by others; Gu Qing considers it Saitama's personal path to strength. 218
Hero Career
| Rank | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| C-Class | 221 | Registered as a Professional Hero alongside Genos, but received C-Class because he failed the written examination. |
| B-Class | 237 | Had advanced to B-Class by the Dark Matter Pirates' invasion and no longer needed to fulfill C-Class weekly activity requirements. |
Relationships
- Gu Qing — Began as an opponent who challenged him without warning; after defeating Gu Qing, Saitama agreed to become his monthly sparring partner. They later cooperate against the God, allowing Gu Qing to complete the construction of Saitama the War God. 211 212 274 275
- Genos — His disciple. Saitama initially rejects the idea of taking students, but eventually agrees to train Genos and shares his own training routine with him. 215 216 218
- Unregistered Knight — Fellow Hero Association member and Gu Qing disciple. Saitama seeks his help with C-Class hero tasks and later allows him to continue fighting the Deep Sea King so he can grow through battle. 221 231
- KING — Learns that KING's heroic reputation is fraudulent, but does not expose or condemn him; instead, he tells KING to become stronger and later plays games with him. 241 244
- God — A four-dimensional enemy responsible for worldwide disasters and dimensional reduction. Saitama fights it alongside Gu Qing and ultimately destroys it after returning through time. 274 275
Story Role / Major Arcs
First Encounter with Gu Qing
Gu Qing intercepts Saitama while pursuing Vaccine Man and challenges him to prove whether he is truly invincible. Saitama evades Gu Qing's attacks, remains unharmed by his strongest techniques, and defeats him with Consecutive Normal Punches. After Gu Qing recovers, he asks to become friends instead. 211
Gu Qing's Sparring Partner
After Gu Qing offers premium “Kobe lobsters,” Saitama agrees to spar with him once a month. These matches allow Gu Qing to study Saitama's power and develop his War God construction, while Saitama gains little beyond the occasional novelty of stronger opponents. 212 233 252
Genos and the Hero Association
Genos seeks Saitama out as his teacher, and Saitama eventually accepts him despite initially refusing disciples. Saitama later joins the Hero Association with Genos, receiving a C-Class ranking because of his poor written-test performance. 215 216 221
Monster and Alien Crises
Saitama responds to the Dark Matter Pirates' invasion of City A, but Gu Qing asks him not to interfere in the battle against Boros. During later crises, he defeats Sai Orochi, the House of Evolution's mutant monsters, and Platinum Sperm with overwhelming force. 237 257 261 262
Battle Against the God
When a four-dimensional God attacks Earth, Saitama joins Gu Qing, Garou, and Emperor Knight. His Serious Punch injures the God and sends it across dimensions, but the God later uses a time-reversal array to threaten their existence. Saitama escapes the array through a faster-than-light run, returns to Earth before the catastrophe, and destroys the God with a final Serious Punch alongside Saitama the War God. 274 275
Trivia
- Despite his combat ability, Saitama cannot swat an ordinary mosquito and is notably poor at video games. 211 244
- He cannot fly, even though his physical power is immense. 211
- He is highly motivated by food, particularly expensive lobster, but remains suspicious of Gu Qing's attempts to bargain with it. 212
