The Three Pure Ones were the first to rise and leave, transforming into three streams of clear qi that vanished beyond the palace gates in an instant.
Di Jun and Taiyi exchanged a glance. Golden light flashed around them as they transformed into two long rainbows and sped away—not toward the Primordial Land, but into the Depths of Chaos.
Nuwa and Fuxi, the brother and sister, also departed at an unhurried pace.
Zhen Yuanzi walked up to Wu Ming and cupped his hands in salute.
"Daoist Friend Wu Ming, Daoist Friend Hong Yun and I shall take our leave first."
Hong Yun cupped his hands as well.
Wu Ming nodded slightly. "Take care, both Daoist Friends."
Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun left together, their figures swiftly disappearing into the chaos.
Only Wu Ming and the Twelve Ancestral Wu remained in the hall.
"Big Brother, we..." Di Jiang stepped forward and looked at Wu Ming.
"Let's go. Back to Buzhou Mountain."
In the Primordial World, years were not counted; in cultivation, time had no meaning.
Nearly ten thousand years had passed since the Second Sermon ended.
At the summit of Buzhou Mountain, before Pangu Hall.
Twelve towering figures stood tall, their auras solemn and heavy. The power of Law flickered faintly around them, causing the surrounding space to twist slightly.
They were the Twelve Ancestral Wu.
"Big Brother, why have you summoned us here?" Di Jiang stepped forward and asked in a deep voice.
The other Ancestral Wu also looked toward Wu Ming, questions in their eyes.
After ten thousand years of digesting what they had learned, aided by the Dao Origin Divine Pearl and the Fragment of the Jade of Creation, they had gained a deeper understanding of the Quasi-Sage path Hongjun had taught, as well as the application of Law.
Though none of them had taken that crucial step into the Quasi-Sage Realm, their command over their own Laws had undoubtedly improved by more than a single level.
Wu Ming rose to his feet, his gaze sweeping over these future pillars before him.
"Ten thousand years have passed. You have all digested what you gained from Hongjun's sermon."
Gong Gong said in a muffled voice, "Some of what that old Daoist taught was indeed rather profound, but comparing it against my own Law, it did prove somewhat useful."
Zhu Rong grinned. "Exactly! That Slaying Three Corpses nonsense sounds utterly dull to me. How can it compare to directly wielding Law with abandon?"
Wu Ming nodded. "Hongjun's sermon spoke of the path of immortality. It differs from the path of our Wu Clan."
"Yet the Great Dao has three thousand paths, and though the roads differ, they lead to the same destination. His Dao still offers us points worth drawing upon."
He paused, then changed the subject. "Over these ten thousand years, the baleful intent within the Primordial World has gradually increased. Have you noticed?"
The Twelve Ancestral Wu all nodded.
Houtu said softly, "That is indeed the case. While traveling through the Primordial World, I found slaughter and conflict everywhere. For the sake of fighting over spiritual treasures, those Great Powers would not hesitate to wipe out entire clans."
Qiang Liang snorted. "Those people are truly troublesome!"
Zhu Jiuyin said quietly, "Innate Spiritual Treasures stir the hearts of men. Hongjun made it clear that Slaying Three Corpses requires spiritual treasures, and the higher their grade, the better. Naturally, everyone is scrambling to seize them."
Wu Ming said, "Hongjun's sermon laid out the paths to attaining the Dao. Among them, the method of Slaying Three Corpses requires Innate Spiritual Treasures as its foundation."
"Now, throughout the Primordial World, conflicts of every scale erupt without end over the struggle for Innate Spiritual Treasures, and slaughter rises on all sides."
"Many Great Powers have yet to decide which path they will take, but that does not stop them from seizing the treasures first and worrying about the rest later."
"This endless strife has caused the negative emotions and baleful intent between heaven and earth in the Primordial World to increase sharply."
"If this continues, it will be detrimental to the Primordial World—and even more detrimental to our Wu Clan..."
The Wu Clan was naturally attuned to baleful intent, but that did not mean they enjoyed living in a world shrouded in it, with violent malice soaring to the heavens.
An excess of baleful intent would affect one's mind and breed chaos.
"Big Brother, what do you mean?" Di Jiang asked.
Can't find the book by its title? Try searching for the author—it may simply have been renamed!
Wu Ming swept his gaze around the group before speaking solemnly. "Daoist Friend Zhou Ming and I have discussed this. The baleful intent that has bred throughout the Primordial World over these ten thousand years is, in truth, an opportunity for our Wu Clan."
Gong Gong was somewhat puzzled. "Baleful intent? That stuff only makes us more restless. How could it be an opportunity?"
"Baleful intent erodes the Primordial World, making the innate nature of living beings increasingly chaotic. It is a tremendous destruction of the order of heaven and earth," Wu Ming explained. "This is an illness of the Primordial World."
"The Wu Clan are Pangu Descendants, and we bear the responsibility of protecting the Primordial World."
"Big Brother, what are you planning?" Di Jiang asked.
"I intend to establish the Wu Clan," Wu Ming said, uttering those three words.
"Establish the Wu Clan?" Zhu Rong was the first to leap up, his voice booming. "Big Brother, have you got it wrong? We were born as the Wu Clan, descendants of Father God Pangu's bloodline. Why must we 'establish' it again?"
"Exactly!" Gong Gong echoed. "We are the Wu Clan. Do we need to prove it to anyone?"
The other Ancestral Wu also wore expressions of confusion.
To them, the Wu Clan's existence was only natural and right. They were Pangu Orthodox—why would they need to go out of their way to "establish a tribe"? That seemed like something only those weak tribes would do.
Wu Ming had long expected this reaction.
He explained calmly, "This 'establish' is not that 'establish.'"
"It is not about proclaiming our existence, but about clearly defining the Wu Clan's position and path to this Primordial World, to the Great Dao hidden in the unseen, and even to the Heavenly Dao."
"Position? Path?" Qiang Liang frowned. "The Wu Clan controls Laws, tempers our Physical Bodies, and follows Father God's last will. Isn't that our path?"
"Yes, but it is not enough." Wu Ming shook his head.
"Hongjun has divided the paths to attaining the Dao into four. It seems he has given all living beings a choice, but in truth, his schemes lie hidden within."
"Proving the Dao through strength is indeed difficult. No one in the Primordial World can succeed at it."
"Proving the Dao through Slaying Three Corpses requires Innate Spiritual Treasures, and the Saint Positions have long since been predetermined."
"Under the Heavenly Dao, aside from the Three Pure Ones, Nuwa, Jieyin, and Zhunti, no one can become a Saint through this path. If the Wu Clan takes this road, we will have absolutely no chance of becoming Saints."
"Proving the Dao through Merit may seem feasible, but what counts as great Merit? The standard is determined by the Heavenly Dao, vague and intangible."
"Only proving the Dao through Laws best suits our foundation. But Hongjun also said that most of this path has already been blocked off, making it harder upon harder."
Wu Ming paused before continuing, "Why is it difficult? Because the Heavenly Dao does not permit it! The Saint Positions have already been decided. The Heavenly Dao does not wish for any more powerful beings beyond its control to appear."
"If the Wu Clan wishes to carve a path through proving the Dao through Laws, we cannot merely bury our heads in cultivation. We must gain the recognition of Heaven and Earth, gather the fortune of our tribe, and use it to break through the Heavenly Dao's restrictions!"
"And establishing our tribe is the first step."
"We must proclaim to the Primordial World that the Wu Clan is not merely descended from Pangu—we are also a part of the Primordial World!"
"When we establish the tribe, we shall make an oath to the Primordial World in the name of Pangu Descendants."
"An oath?" Qiang Liang frowned. "What are we swearing to do?"
Wu Ming's gaze sharpened. "The Wu Clan shall take it as our duty to cleanse the Primordial World of baleful intent, to sort out the earth veins of the Primordial World, and to contribute our strength to the development of this world!"
"With this oath, we shall obtain the recognition of Heaven and Earth, receive descending Merit, and gather the fortune of our Wu Clan!"
Silence filled the hall.
The Twelve Ancestral Witches were all intelligent. With Wu Ming having laid it out so plainly, how could they fail to understand the deeper meaning?
"If that is what Big Brother says... then I agree." Houtu was the first to state her stance.
Zhu Jiuyin nodded as well. "Retreat in order to advance—obtain Merit and fortune, protect the tribe, and pave the way for proving the Dao through Laws... this plan is feasible."
After pondering for a moment, Di Jiang's gaze hardened with resolve. "Since Big Brother says so, then let us do it."
Zhu Rong scratched his head. Though he still found it somewhat troublesome, once he understood that it was to fight against the "Heavenly Dao's restrictions" and for "proving the Dao through Laws," he no longer objected.
"Fine! Whatever you say, Big Brother, we'll do!"
Gong Gong snorted and said nothing more, tacitly consenting.
Seeing this, the other Ancestral Witches also nodded in agreement.
"Good." Seeing that his goal had been achieved, Wu Ming said, "Since no one has any objections, we shall choose an auspicious day. Here at Buzhou Mountain, before Pangu Hall, we will formally establish the Wu Clan!"
"This matter should be done sooner rather than later. Let it be one hundred years from now!"
"Yes, Big Brother!" the Twelve Ancestral Witches answered in unison.
