Background / History
Hongjun is an ancient Chaos Demon God who survived Pangu's Heaven-Opening Great Calamity. He later became the Dao Ancestor of the Primordial Wilderness, attained Sagehood, and opened Purple Firmament Palace to preach the Dao. 13 245 693
At Purple Firmament Palace, he established a cultivation hierarchy, bestowed opportunities for Sainthood, accepted disciples, distributed Hongmeng Purple Qi, and granted major Innate Treasures to selected followers. After his final sermon, he announced his intention to join the Dao and bring order to the Primordial Wilderness. 17 22 33
Hongjun's merger with the Dao was never simple submission. He intended to use complete fusion as an opportunity to replace and devour the Heavenly Dao, while the Heavenly Dao intended to use his Chaos Demon God Dao Body as a vessel to escape the Primordial World's constraints. 246 248 691 693
Appearance
Hongjun frequently manifests through an indistinct Divine Sense phantom rather than a stable physical form. His projected figure is ancient, blurred, and carries an aura of authority that Haotian and Yaochi recognize immediately. 665
- His phantom's facial features are usually unclear, while its Dao Rhyme is described as unfathomable. 665
- His true Dao Body is a Chaos Demon God body valuable enough that the Heavenly Dao seeks to seize it intact. 692 693
- Following his later revival, his fallback consciousness awakens within Haotian's body with Yang Mei's assistance. 716 717
Personality
Hongjun is calculating, secretive, and extremely cautious. He conceals Divine Sense within others, withholds crucial information even from temporary allies, and maintains contingencies for events such as his own defeat. 241 242 248 717
He presents himself with habitual indifference, showing little concern for the fear, resentment, or humiliation of those beneath him. This detachment is paired with ruthless pragmatism: when restoring his strength, he treats the origins of Great Powers, Wu Clan members, and Demon Clan members as consumable resources. 33 665 717 718
Despite his schemes, Hongjun possesses the pride and defiance of a Chaos Demon God. When the Heavenly Dao attempts to claim his body, he tries to self-detonate rather than submit; when defeated by Zhou Ming, he meets his final strike without fear. 693 739
Abilities & Skills
Dao Fusion and Three Dao Authority
Hongjun can merge with the Heavenly Dao and wield Dao authority on a vast scale. His ultimate combat method combines the authority of the Heavenly, Earthly, and Humanity Daos.
- Intended to fully merge with the Dao before turning on the Heavenly Dao's Will. 246
- Can gather scattered Heavenly Dao authority to attain half-step Hunyuan Infinite power. 732 734
- Temporarily combines the Three Dao authorities into a gray wheel and later a Chaos singularity. 739
- The Heavenly, Earthly, and Humanity Dao authorities cannot remain stably fused within him; forcing their union causes a catastrophic backlash against his Primordial Spirit. 739
Divine Sense Concealment and Surveillance
Hongjun can divide and conceal his Divine Sense in ways even Sages struggle to detect.
- Secretly divides his Divine Sense into six portions and hides them separately within the Six Sages. 241 242
- Implants Divine Sense into the Haotian Mirror to monitor Haotian and Yaochi. 666
- Uses Divine Sense phantoms to negotiate, impart methods, and act while his main body is unavailable. 242 665
- A divided strand is weaker and cannot, by Hongjun's own account, completely control its host alone. 242
Three Corpses Slaying Method
Hongjun created the complete Three Corpses Slaying Method and its hidden latter half, the Shattering Three Corpses Method.
- The public method concerns slaying the good, evil, and self-obsession corpses. 247
- The Shattering Three Corpses Method reabsorbs the origins of already-severed corpses into the main body to rebuild the cultivator's Dao Foundation. 247
- He gives the complete method to Zhou Ming and later to Haotian and Yaochi. 247 665
- The method is dangerous: an error during shattering and reconstruction can destroy both body and spirit. 671
Origin Absorption
Hongjun can forcibly draw upon the origins of other cultivators to restore his own cultivation.
- Drains Di Jun, East King Duke, Taiqing, Primordial Lord Tianzun, Jieyin, Zhunti, and other Great Powers, reducing them to near-powerlessness. 717
- Absorbs the origins of hundreds of millions of Wu Clan and Demon Clan members to recover peak Hunyuan Grand Unity Golden Immortal cultivation. 718
- Deliberately leaves some Great Powers alive, viewing their remaining fortune as potentially useful later. 717 718
Dao Combat
Hongjun's combat strength is sufficient to directly intervene in battles between top Primordial powers.
- Dissipates Wu Ming's fatal axe-light with a casual sweep of his sleeve, saving Di Jun and Taiyi. 68
- Uses the Jade Plate of Creation to raise defensive barriers against the Heavenly Dao's attacks. 692 693
- Fights alongside Yang Mei against Zhou Ming's Pangu True Body using the Three Dao authorities. 738 739
Teachings and Bestowals
- His first sermon lasts ten thousand years and explains the six realms below Grand Unity—Heavenly Immortal, True Immortal, Mystic Immortal, Golden Immortal, Primordial Unity Golden Immortal, and Grand Unity Golden Immortal—alongside the Grand Unity, Quasi-Saint, and Saint realms. 17
- He reveals four paths to Sainthood and appoints East King and West Queen Mother as leaders of male and female immortals, granting them the Dragon Head Cane and Western Plain Cloud Realm Banner respectively. 22
- He distributes Hongmeng Purple Qi, with the final strand going to Hong Yun Patriarch. 33
- He grants the Taiji Diagram to Taiqing, the Pangu Banner to Primordial Lord Tianzun, the Four Swords of Zhu Xian and their array diagram to Tongtian, and several treasures to Nuwa. 33
- He grants Jieyin and Zhunti the Twelve-Grade Golden Lotus of Merit, Green Lotus Treasure Banner, and Amulet Staff. 33
Equipment / Items
- Jade Plate of Creation — Used to form defensive barriers while resisting the Heavenly Dao; it is ultimately unable to withstand the perfected Heavenly Dao's suppression. 692 693
- Haotian Mirror — Originally bestowed upon Haotian; Hongjun later implants Divine Sense within it as a surveillance point. 239 666
Relationships
- Zhou Ming — Principal adversary. Hongjun briefly seeks cooperation against the Heavenly Dao, but continues withholding information and ultimately dies to Zhou Ming's Heaven-Opening Divine Axe. 242 246 739
- Heavenly Dao — Hongjun's intended target and eventual captor. Their fusion is a mutual scheme: Hongjun seeks to replace it, while it seeks his Chaos Demon God Dao Body. 246 691 693
- Haotian — Former attendant and disciple. Hongjun grants him a transformed body, the Haotian Sword, and the Haotian Mirror, then plants a survival fallback within him. 239 717
- Yaochi — Former attendant and disciple. Hongjun grants her treasures and later passes her the Shattering Three Corpses Method alongside Haotian. 239 665
- Yang Mei — Necessary but unstable ally. Yang Mei helps awaken Hongjun's fallback, yet abandons him when Hongjun's Three Dao fusion collapses. 716 717 739
- Fate and Karma — Temporary allies whom Hongjun helps restore through replacement Dao Bodies. They later surrender their authority and origin to strengthen him against Zhou Ming. 719 724 737
- Luohu — Former Dao-Demon rival turned expedient ally. Their cooperation is founded on shared ambition rather than trust. 243 718 719
- Taiqing, Primordial Lord Tianzun, Tongtian, Nuwa, Jieyin, and Zhunti — Hongjun's disciples and recipients of his major treasure bestowals. 33
Story Role / Major Arcs
Purple Firmament Palace
Hongjun's Sagehood and sermons reshape the Primordial Wilderness' cultivation order. He establishes the known realm hierarchy, reveals paths to Sainthood, selects disciples, distributes Hongmeng Purple Qi, and declares his coming Dao fusion. 13 17 22 33
Conflict with the Wu Clan
Hongjun intervenes during Wu Ming's assault on the Demon Race, saving Di Jun and Taiyi from a lethal axe strike. He and the Heavenly Dao are subsequently wounded in their clash with the Pangu True Body and Pangu Will. 68 77
When the Six Saints trap Zhou Ming at the Sea of Blood, Hongjun attempts to force Houtu's true body to transform into Reincarnation. The Ancestral Wu reveal that they have already seen through his scheme and refuse him. 180
Secret Negotiations with Zhou Ming
After the Earthly Dao's rise undermines Heavenly Dao dominance, Hongjun secretly enters Pangu Hall through concealed Divine Sense and proposes cooperation with Zhou Ming against the Heavenly Dao. He offers the complete Three Corpses Slaying Method but refuses to reveal the Heavenly Dao's location until the West prospers and he can fully merge with the Dao. 241 246 248
Devouring by the Heavenly Dao
Hongjun completes his Dao fusion, but the Heavenly Dao turns the process against him. It suppresses his self-detonation attempt, devours his consciousness, and takes possession of his Dao Body. 643 688 693
A remnant Divine Sense is later examined and completely erased by Zhou Ming, though it contains no clue to Hongjun's true survival contingency. 699
Revival and Restoration
After the Heavenly Dao falls, Yang Mei awakens Hongjun's hidden fallback within Haotian's body. Hongjun immediately drains the origins of former Great Powers, then massacres Wu Clan and Demon Clan forces to restore peak Hunyuan Grand Unity Golden Immortal cultivation. 716 717 718
Final Alliance and Fall
Hongjun joins Yang Mei, Luohu, Fate, and Karma against Zhou Ming. He reveals his half-step Hunyuan Infinite trump card, gathers Dao authority, and temporarily reaches combat power near Hunyuan Infinite by combining the Three Daos. 725 732 737 738
The forced fusion collapses under the strain of Zhou Ming's assault, gravely injuring Hongjun and causing his power to plummet. Yang Mei abandons him, and Zhou Ming erases Hongjun completely with the Heaven-Opening Divine Axe. 739
