Background / History

Formation and identity

The Federation succeeded the Sun Moon Empire after the empire unified the continent. The former imperial Xu Family accepted the transition to a federal system under conditions that preserved its influence over the military command structure. 33 154 364

Its government remained dominated by people from the former Sun Moon Continent: Sun Moon citizens made up nearly eighty percent of the Federation Government system. People originating from the former Douluo kingdoms were commonly referred to as Douluo citizens, despite the formal end of the old national divisions. 473

The Federation’s political legitimacy depends heavily on public support. Its Speaker is elected by the people, and the government openly recognizes that public opinion can establish or overturn it. 505

Abyss crisis and resource strain

The Federation established a military base near the Abyss Channel and deployed a large garrison to contain repeated Abyss Creature incursions. It also called on powerful factions, including Shrek Academy and the Tang Sect, to support the defense. 180

Maintaining the Abyss Battlefield consumed immense quantities of weapons, ammunition, metals, medicine, and other resources. At the projected consumption rate, the Federation’s reserves were expected to be exhausted within a thousand years. 370 460

Resource scarcity drove some Federation officials to advocate war against the Star Luo and Dou Spirit Empires. Others preferred peace or hoped that future Cosmic Starry Sky exploration would uncover new resource worlds instead. 370 465

Government and Military

Six highest offices

The Federation’s six pinnacle offices divide authority between three government posts and three military posts. 461

Armed forces

  • Federal Army — The Federation’s military is organized into major legions, including the Central, Western, Southern, Sea God, Northern Sea, and Eastern Sea Legions. 524 712
  • Central Legion — The Federation’s largest legion, with nearly 200,000 main-force soldiers and a total strength approaching 300,000 when auxiliary personnel are included. 524
  • Blood God Legion — The best-supplied legion because it defends the Abyss Battlefield; its resource requests receive priority. 461
  • War God Hall — The Federation’s foremost high-level combat organization. It has roughly 500 registered members and receives annual investment nearly equal to an entire legion’s military expenditure. 257
  • Military ranks — Federation General is the highest military rank. Four-star generals are the highest grade, with only the Chief of the General Staff and Commander-in-Chief holding that rank at the time described. 154
  • Military merit — Merit is divided into one through five stars. Five-star merit is extremely rare and was historically associated with Blood God Legion Commanders who resisted the Abyss. 538

Internal control problems

Several legions developed loyalties to powerful families or Shrek Academy and the Tang Sect rather than to the central government. The Southern, Sea God, Northern Sea, and Eastern Sea Legions either refused, resisted, or hesitated over Federation deployments against Shrek-Tang. 524 526

The Federation later treated such independent military blocs as a threat to state authority. It moved against the Northern Sea Legion, Sea God Legion, and Shen Family-aligned officers, using joint government-and-military orders to suspend or investigate commanders who defied deployment orders. 587 612

Technology and Infrastructure

  • Federation Base — Located in Mingdu’s former imperial palace district, where the Federation Government Building and Military Headquarters are situated. Entry requires special authorization. 460
  • Integrated defensive wall — The Federation Base is protected by an ultra-large integrated linked Soul Tool that can deploy a super barrier over the entire base within five seconds. It can withstand the simultaneous bombardment of one hundred Grade 9 Fixed Soul Guidance Cannon Shells and possesses an offensive system stated to be capable of preventing two quasi-gods from escaping. 460
  • Virtual training technology — The Federation developed simulated-space technology for military training to reduce resource consumption and allow soldiers to train at full intensity. The Spirit Pagoda later acquired and adapted this technology for the Spirit Ascension Platform. 515
  • Soul Tool research — The Federation Research Institute was historically a leading technological force. The construction of three God-Slaying Weapons, however, severely depleted resources and contributed to a millennium of technological stagnation. 515
  • Abyss armaments — The Federation invested heavily in weapons for the Abyss war, including a hexagram linked attack system using 108 ninth-grade Soul Tools. 452

Relationships

  • Xu Family — A foundational military family whose members have continuously held the Commander-in-Chief position since the Federation’s establishment. 154
  • Spirit Pagoda — A closely aligned major power. By allowing Federation participation in its management, the Spirit Pagoda became effectively co-owned by the Federation and received extensive policy support. 51 475
  • Shrek Academy — A powerful but politically contentious institution controlling the self-governing Shrek City; Federation hardliners viewed it as a state within a state. 350
  • Tang Sect — A technologically advanced organization that supplied weapons to the Federation during the Abyss war, while also being regarded by many officials as an independent threat capable of influencing or challenging the government. 199 470
  • Star Luo Empire and Dou Spirit Empire — Foreign powers viewed as potential sources of resources during the Abyss crisis; both later surrendered and became Federation special administrative regions. 370 797

Story Role / Major Arcs

Conflict with Shrek Academy and the Tang Sect

The Federation initially struggled to restrain the Tang Sect due to its vast industries, military manufacturing capacity, and influence. Its Speaker publicly acknowledged the government’s inability to effectively oppose the sect after interference in the Federation Grand Competition. 199 200

As hostility escalated, Federation authorities argued that Shrek Academy and the Tang Sect had repeatedly violated Federation law, influenced the military from within, and placed their own interests above the state’s survival during the Abyss crisis. 470 515

The Federation formally declared both organizations anti-human and anti-Federation terrorist groups. It ordered the nationalization of their property, the arrest of their personnel, and severe penalties for anyone violently resisting or assisting them. 521

War against Shrek City

The Federation could not fully mobilize its military for the operation: the Western Legion remained tied to the Abyss Battlefield, while several naval and regional legions resisted orders. It therefore formed a Joint Counter-Terrorism Legion from available Central, Northern, and Northwestern forces, supported by major families and the Spirit Pagoda. 524 526

Following failed branch assaults and devastating Tang Sect self-destruction explosions, the Federation faced public outrage over civilian casualties. It continued the campaign, blamed the Tang Sect for provoking or engineering the disasters, and urged Shrek City residents to evacuate before the city became a battlefield. 537 539 543

The Federal Allied Army ultimately marched on Shrek City with hundreds of thousands of troops, extensive Soul Tool firepower, Limit Douluo-level combatants, War God Hall mecha forces, and allied ferocious beasts. 690 697 710

The battle caused immense destruction and civilian loss. Preliminary postwar figures recorded two million civilians caught in the fighting and 560,000 deaths, while nearly 20,000 Federal Army soldiers were killed and more than 50,000 injured. 762 763

Shrek Academy and the Tang Sect were defeated, their senior figures captured, and their remaining personnel across the Federation subjected to further investigation and arrest. 755 763

Domestic unrest and consolidation

During the Shrek City conflict, protests, marches, propaganda campaigns, and explosions erupted across more than a thousand Federation cities. Demonstrators demanded a ceasefire and the dissolution of the Federation Government. 711

After the fall of Shrek City, the Federation suppressed the unrest, arrested more than 20,000 dispersed Shrek-Tang personnel, and moved against officials and military figures deemed disloyal or corrupt. 755 762 664

War with the Star Luo and Dou Spirit Empires

The Star Luo and Dou Spirit Empires attempted to exploit the Federation’s internal conflict by deploying forces toward its territory. The Federation used their actions as grounds for a counteroffensive and resource-acquisition campaign. 692 762

After Chen An resolved the Abyss crisis and became known as a Deity, both empires surrendered rather than resist. The Federation abolished their imperial systems and reorganized Star Luo Continent and Douling Continent as special administrative regions under federal administration. 797

Trivia

  • The Federation’s headquarters occupies the former imperial palace district of the Sun Moon Empire in Mingdu. 460
  • The Federation’s official name remains controversial among some citizens descended from the former Douluo kingdoms, who prefer the name “Douluo Federation.” 33
  • Although the Federation’s Chief of the General Staff formally outranks the Commander-in-Chief, actual authority has not always followed nominal rank. 154
